Laid in is a period gift envelope with one sheeted folded to make a 4 page note addressed to Miss Jennie Baird - Present dated Wednesday May 14th and signed Sincerely L. L. Watson. The letter explains the "peculiar circumstances" of the gift - Aunt Let Lauretta is on her deathbed and is gifting this lovely book and a bar of soap to her friend Jennie whose gifts of flower bouquets have cheered her in her demise - "God's flowers Dear dear Jennie; oh that the graces of the spirit may bloom in her heart." The final 2 end pages bear small pin holes from where the letter was pinned in at one time.
