The Magic Leaves : A History of Haida Argillite Carving
157 pages including index. Haida carvers on Canada's Pacific Coast have carved figures from black rock for about 150 years. The genesis of this book was when two dedicated collectors donated their works to the British Columbia Provincial Museum, thus assembling the largest and best collection of these carvings known to the Museum. The benefactors, Francis and Kathleen Reif, suggested that the Museum produce a well illustrated book as a definitive scholarly work on the black, Haida carvings. This volume is the result. Contains dozens of excellent black and white photographs plus extensive text and descriptions. Clean, bright and unmarked with zero wear. Book

Montagu, Mary Wortley; Wharncliffe, Lord; Thomas, W. Moy.
THE LETTERS AND WORKS OF LADY MARY WORTLEY MONTAGU. Edited by her Great-grandson Lord Wharcliffe. With Additions and Corrections derived from the Original Manuscripts, Illustrative Notes and a Memoir by W. Moy Thomas. In Two Volumes.
Two volumes. pp. 514; 523 + Engraved plates. 8vo. 220mm. Original full cloth bindings. Corner of one volume slightly mouse chewed. Lady Mary Wortley Montagu (1689-1762) English author, noted primarily for these highly descriptive letters. She was the daughter of the first Duke of Kingston. In 1712 she married Edward Wortley Montagu, who became ambassador to Turkey in 1716. On her return to England in 1718 she worked to educate the public in the use of inoculation against smallpox. In 1739 she left her husband and went to live on the Continent. She is also remembered for her quarrel with Pope, who had once been her ardent admirer and who attacked her viciously in his poetry. Horace Walpole disliked her also and depicted her as a greedy, heartless eccentric. However, recent studies have defended her as a brilliant woman struggling for emancipation. Her letters were first published in 1763. Interesting and scarce. W141
