The biographical essay also includes many black & white photos of the artist at work and with friends and family. The frontispiece is a full page photo of Rodin examining an antique sculpture. The text is complete clean and unmarked no creasing tearing or stains not remaindered. The wrappers show only some light rubbing no scratches no bumping or chipping. 20th Century Cross-Dressing Gender-Bending Entertainers Photo Archive 1920s-1990s
LGBTQ Cross-Dressing Collection of eight photographs of female impersonators and gender-bending entertainment dating from the early 1920s-1990s. Photos measure 3.5" x 5.25" to 8" x 10". Some have original press articles printed or taped en verso. Two are real photo post cards from the early 1920s including one advertisement for female impersonator Francis Blair "Dancer De Luxe" with images of Blair in a showgirl costume and in menswear. Four large silver gelatin photos from the 1960s show drag performers in attire typical of women's fashion of the era. One shows actor Reg Varney in a still for 1973 film The Best Pair of Legs in the Business about a female impersonator struggling to find fame. Two other photos show drag queen Danielle Carter on a stage in a long form fitted tiger print dress. feather boa leopard pumps and bouffant wig. One photo shows MASH actor Jamie Farr on set as playing a soldier who gets discharged for cross-dressing a progressive topic for television in 1979 with one article en verso reading "It was the first time a man played a man who would dress as a woman." In the United States "cross-dressing" has been used as a catchall term for queer gender expression. Considering the harsh legal and social ramifications of cross-dressing these photographs show private and public rebellions against the constraints of heteronormative society. Photographs are crisp and clear with hardly any edge wear. Overall very good condition. unknown
