Le immagini seguono tutta la vicenda personale e professionale di Erwitt, da quando, appena a 17 anni, sviluppava nel bagno di casa le sue prime foto fino ai più recenti incarichi in Scozia e a Cuba. Pagina dopo pagina, questo libro offre l'opportunità di conoscere la nascita di uno sguardo, quello unico di un maestro della fotografia che ha fatto del suo punto di vista - sempre ironico, appassionato ma anche sensibile e partecipe nei confronti degli ultimi - un "marchio di fabbrica" subito riconoscibile. La prima immagine presentata nel libro è del 1947, l'ultima del 2010: dall'Europa del dopoguerra all'ex Unione Sovietica, dagli Stati Uniti a Cuba, all'America Latina e al Giappone, il lettore potrà ritrovare in queste fotografie alcuni dei soggetti ricorrenti nella produzione di Erwitt - i cani, i bambini, la vita nelle sue manifestazioni più gioiose e surreali - ma anche le tematiche di attualità seguite nel corso di celebri reportage fotogiornalistici.
