Headed for the Graduate Business School at Harvard in 1925 he stopped in New York and visited the Art Student's League where he met Joseph Pennell who "turned him away from Harvard away from business into the precarious conditions of an etcher's career." The Meadow Brook Hounds founded in 1877 was in its heyday between WWI and WWII one of the premier American packs hunting an area of open country and large estates on Long Island's North Shore that--for hunting purposes--has ceased to exist. Living in the area and a faithful follower of the pack Betty Mrs. Richard F. Babcock a talented amateur artist kept a hunting diary in which she recorded the details of each meet enlivening her pages with a series of captioned drawings most of them showing members of the field in picturesque difficulties.
