‎Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original marbled papers. Papers toned, slightly wear on spine and extremities and scattered ink on several words. Otherwise a good copy. 16mo. (15 x 11 cm). In Ottoman script. [18], [2] p. He was an Iraqi Kurdish Sufi, by the name of Shaykh Diya al-Din Khalid al-Shahrazuri, the founder of a branch of the Naqshbandi Sufi order -called Khalidi after him- that has had a profound impact not only on his native Kurdish lands but also on many other regions of the western Islamic world. Mawlana Khalid acquired the nesba Baghdadi through his frequent stays in Baghdad, for it was in the town of Karadag (Qaradagh) in the Shahrizur region, about 5 miles from Sulaymaniyah, that he was born in 1779. His father was a Qadiri Sufi who was popularly known as Pir Mika'il Shesh-angosht, and his mother also came from a celebrated Sufi family in Kurdistan. He was an influential Ottoman mystic, who is believed by his followers to have been capable of time travel (Tayyi Zaman). He was born in the year 1779 in the village of Karadag, near the city of Sulaymaniyyah, in what is now Iraq. He was raised and trained in Sulaymaniyyah, where there were many schools and many mosques and which was considered the primary educational city of his time. His grandfather was Par Mika'il Chis Anchit, which means Mika'il the Saint of the six fingers. His title is `Uthmani because he is a descendant of Sayyidina `Uthman ibn `Affan, the third caliph of Islam. He studied the Qur'an and its explanation and fiqh according to the Shafi`i school. He was famous in poetry. When he was fifteen years of age he took asceticism as his creed, hunger as his horse, wakefulness as his means, seclusion as his friend, and energy as his light.Young Khalid studied with the two great scholars of his time, Shaykh `Abdul Karam al-Barzinji and Shaykh `Abdur Rahim al-Barzinji, and he read with Mullah Muhammad `Ali. He studied the sciences of mathematics, philosophy, and logic as well as the principles of jurisprudence. He studied the works of Ibn Hajar, as-Suyuti, and al-Haythami. He memorized the commentary on Qur'an by Baydawi. He was able to find solutions for even the most difficult questions in jurisprudence. He memorized the Qur'an according to the fourteen different ways of recitation, and became very famous everywhere for this. For many years Mawlana Khalid's interests were focused exclusively on the formal traditions of Islamic learning, and his later, somewhat abrupt, turning to Sufism is highly reminiscent of the patterns in many a classic Sufi biography. He began his studies in Qaradagh, with Qur'an memorization, Shafi fiqh, and elementary logic. He then traveled to other centers of religious study in Kurdistan, concentrating on logic and kalam. Next he came to Baghdad, where he astounded the established ulema with his learning and bested them in debates on many topics. Such was his mastery of the religious sciences that the governor of Baban proposed him a post as modarres, but he modestly refused. However, when Abd al-Karim Barzanki died of the plague in 1799, Mawlana Khalid assumed the responsibility for the madrasa in Sulaymaniyah he had founded. He remained there for about seven years, distinguished as yet only by his great learning and a high degree of asceticism that caused him to shun the company of secular authority. He reached Delhi in about a year (1809). His journey took him through Rey, Tehran, and other provinces of Iran. He then traveled to the city of Herat in Afghanistan, followed by Kandahar, Kabul, and Peshawar... (Source: Wikipedia). This manuscript and risala includes short examples of his 'letters' to prophet, Ottoman rulers, Sheikh Mahmud Sahib, Abdullah Pasha etc. Proper nouns in this booklet are written in red ink: Fazlullah, Hâlid Naksibendî Mujaddidi Osmani, Abdullah, Akmaladdin, Mahmud, Jacob, Gazali, Sahhab, Suhreverdi, Muhammad Mustafa, Celâl, Suyuti, etc. Hegira. 1286 = Gregorian: 1870.‎

‎Sehr hübsches Album mit Ansichten von Starnberg, einer Karte vom See, Leoni (Rottmannshöhe), Allmannshausen, Ammerland, Ambach, St.Heinrich, Seeshaupt, Bernried, Tutzing, Roseninsel, Possenhofen, Feldafing, Niederpöcking u.s.w. Am Ende mit einem doppelseitigen Panorama "Der Gebirgszug von der Roseninsel aus gesehen". - Heinrich Max, Bruder von Gabriel von Max, wurde 1847 in Prag geboren. Nach seiner Ausbildung studierte er ab 1869 an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste in München. Er arbeitete als freischaffender Maler und Fotograf. Er war mit Luise Max-Ehler verheiratet. - Gut erhalten.‎

L'Immortel Maxime Weygand congratule son désormais coréligionnaire Thierry Maulnier, élu en remplacement du siège vacant d'Henry Bordeaux, le 13 février 1964 : "Mon cher confrère, une ligne pour vous dire mon immense satisfaction de vous nommer ainsi." après une première élection "blanche" s'étant tenueen novembre 1963 lors de laquelle Thierry Maulnier avait obtenu 14 voix, contre 11 à André Roussin : "Cela fait oublier le passé qui fut un moment fort déplaisant. ‎March [mars] 1918. PORTRAITS INÉDITS DE LA FORCE EXPÉDITIONNAIRE ÉGYPTIENNE (EGYPTIAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCE) PENDANT LA CAMPAGNE DU SINAÏ ET DE PALESTINE‎

‎Un cahier in-12° oblong (140 x 170 mm), [46] ff., toile verte, dos muet, titre doré "Album" sur le plat supérieur, tranches dorées.. Album de 99 photos (tirages argentiques de l'époque), prises à El-Arich (Égypte), Gaza, Betléhem, Tel-Aviv (qui porte alors le nom de Jaffa) et Jérusalem, comprenant portraits, paysages et monuments historiques (mur des lamentations, mosquée d'Omar, Basilique de la Nativité de Bethléem, l'arc de l'Ecce Homo...). On relève plusieurs portraits des soldats de la Force expéditionnaire égyptienne (Egyptian Expeditionary Force, EEF), créée en mars 1916 pour diriger les troupes du Commonwealth britannique en Égypte. Dès 1917, l'EEF s'engage dans la conquête de la Palestine. Elle s'empare de Gaza en octobre 1917, puis entre à Jérusalem. Au printemps 1918, date à laquelle ont été capturés ces clichés, un grand nombre des soldats britanniques de l'EEF a été déplacé sur le front occidental ; les troupes restantes cherchent, en préparation d'une offensive d'envergure contre les turcs, à consolider leur contrôle sur la Judée. Mais en mars 1918, une tentative de capture d'Es Salt est repoussée par l'armée ottomane. On attend le renfort des troupes venues des Indes britanniques, prévu pour le mois d'avril, et les officiers et sous-officiers de l'EEF reçoivent une formation accélérée en hindi. L'album est signé par Alice Lilian May (non-identifiée). Quelques photos légendées au crayon, sur l'album ou au dos. Tirages pâlis.‎

Er prägte den Begriff Histologie und zählt zu den Namensgebern des Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser-Syndroms.‎

With 3 heraldic crosses showing the coats of arms of the Teutonic Order (a black cross) and 4 drawings showing costumes of several members of the order, all executed in watercolours with some albumen highlights. 20th century calf, blind-ruled double fillet borders on both boards, spine ruled in blind and lettered in green. Highly interesting 17th century German manuscript of the Order of Brothers of the German House of Saint Mary in Jerusalem, commonly known as the Teutonic or German Order. Founded in 1190, it was primarily founded as a military society with its Teutonic Knights serving crusadings Christians in the Holy Land during the Middle Ages. In time, the Order also developed into a Catholic religious institution, although it would not lose its military function until the 20th century. - The present manuscript opens with a short history of the Order, beginning with the year 1190 and ending in 1606. It continues with the statutes, divided into several chapters, which are interspersed with prayers in Latin. This combination of statutes and prayers gives evidence that the Teutonic Order was not merely a military order, but also had a strong focus on religion. This is also reflected in the liturgical calendar, which is part of a chapter of the statutes, listing the saints and their feast days as celebrated by the Order. The end of the work (fol. 125) states that Maximilian III of Austria approved the statutes. Maximilian (1558-1618) was the Grand Master of the Order from 1585 until his death. The date 1606, as well as his passing in 1618, suggest that the manuscript was written in the first quarter of the 17th century. - The last five leaves of the manuscript appear to contain the names of the Landkomturs who ruled the various bailiwicks of the Holy Roman Empire's commanderies. These Landkomturs, subordinate to the Grand Master, were very often important German noblemen. - Uncommonly for this type of text, this manuscript is illustrated: the first illustrated leaf shows three black crosses, forming the arms of the Teutonic Order, including that of the Grand Master. The Grand Master's coat of arms is a black cross with a golden cross superimposed upon it, with an imperial eagle in the centre. It continues with four illustrations showing the typical costumes of several members of the Order. The second illustration in this series shows the white overcoats bearing a black cross, such as were typically worn by the Knights since 1205. - Only a few very minor spots, overall in very good condition. According to a 21st century inscription in pencil on the first endpaper, the manuscript was formerly part of the collection of the Belgian historian and politician Philippe Kervyn de Volkaersbeke (1815-81). Altogether a rare survival, and a rich source of information on the formal organisation of the most important 17th century German Order, but also on their statutes and their religious customs and habits. The manuscript beautifully reflects the religious as well as the military character of the Teutonic Order.‎

‎Wohl an die Pianistin Marie Hartzer-Stibbe in Hamburg: "[...] Mit Wehmut gedenke ich der friedlichen Konzert-Abende in Ihrer Stadt sowie Ihres mir hierbei stets erwiesenen gütigen Interesses. Nun fügt es der Zufall, daß ich Mitte Oktober mit meinem Trio auf der Reise nach Dänemark - das dortige erste Konzert findet in Aalborg statt - Ihre Stadt passiere. Sie würden uns eine besondere Gefälligkeit erweisen, falls Sie es einrichten oder veranlassen könnten, daß wir zu einem Anschluß-Konzert engagiert würden [...]" - Einen zentralen Platz im Leben Mayer-Mahrs nahm die pädagogische Tätigkeit ein. Von 1892 bis 1937 unterrichtete er am Klindworth-Scharwenka-Konservatorium in Berlin. Ab 1907 war er Mitglied im Preisrichter-Kollegium des Ibach-Wettbewerbs für Nachwuchskünstler am Sternschen Konservatorium in Berlin und bis 1933 Mitglied des Senats der Akademie der Künste in Berlin als Sachverständiger in musikpädagogischen Angelegenheiten. Er emigrierte nach Norwegen und Schweden.‎
