‎Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original manuscript law document. 21x11 cm. In Ottoman script. 1 p. "Yüzbasizâde" family is one of the rooted Turcoman families probably descendant from before the Ottomans. Sealed by Yüzbasizâde Vahab, Yüzbasizâde Ayse Hanim, and Yüzbasizâde Bekir Efendi oglu Osman. Annotated and sealed on the bottom side by a person named 'Mustafa Hakki'. "Darende Mahallesinde kâin malûmü'l-hudûd bir kita' hanemizi Eylül (?) itibâren bir senelik banknot para ikiyüz dört liraya Malatya . ihbara verilmesi ve ihbara (?) olan yüz iki lirayi mümaileyhten ahz ve. edildigini mübeyyin isbû senedin mümaileyhe.". ‎[OTTOMAN SYRIA - BEYRUT] [1342] February 14, 1924 A manuscript document in Arabic: From Ottoman 'mufti' in Safed to "Yüksek Islâm Meclisi Riyâseti" [i.e. The Supreme Islamic Council Presidency], on an unpaid amount of foundation deed (with 3 stamps of HJZ 'Hijaz Railways' and OPDA 'Ottoman Public Debt Administration').‎

‎Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original manuscript document sent to the Ottoman court with postal stamps "OPDA" (Ottoman Public Debt Administration) [= Osmanli Kamu Borç Idaresi] ve "HJZ" (Hejaz Railway) [= Hicaz Demiryollari]. 28x21,5 cm. In Arabic. 1 p. 11 lines. On a paper with Grifon and "W" initial and "Original" watermarks. Paper probably from a British paper manufacturer produced the paper for the Middle Eastern market. It starts with "Yüksek Islâm Meclisi Re'isi Âlîsi'ne". There is talk of a deal made by the Safed mufti and the person concerned - stating that he has been waiting for two years for an unpaid amount after an agreement with a certain amount of Egyptian junaihs, Safed mufti demands that the rest of the money. Sayyidî, who states that he is getting older and that the money must be kept in order to be able to do the title deeds from the foundations, says that otherwise the title deed procedures will not be completed. Signed by Safed mufti named Seyyidî. On the bottom, signed by/as "Reisü'l Camiü'l Islâmiü'l Âlî, Mehmed (or, Muhammed) Sehvî]. "Safed is a city in the Northern District of Israel. Located at an elevation of 900 meters (2,953 ft), Safed is the highest city in the Galilee and in Israel. Safed has been identified with Sepph, a fortified town in the Upper Galilee mentioned in the writings of the Roman Jewish historian Josephus. The Jerusalem Talmud mentions it as one of five elevated spots where fires were lit to announce the New Moon and festivals during the Second Temple period. Safed attained local prominence under the Crusaders, who built a large fortress there in 1168. It was conquered by Saladin 20 years later, and demolished by his grandnephew al-Mu'azzam Isa in 1219. After reverting to the Crusaders in a treaty in 1240, a larger fortress was erected, which was expanded and reinforced in 1268 by the Mamluk sultan Baybars, who developed Safed into a major town and the capital of a new province spanning the Galilee. After a century of general decline, the stability brought by the Ottoman conquest in 1517 ushered in nearly a century of growth and prosperity in Safed, during which time Jewish immigrants from across Europe developed the city into a center for wool and textile production and the mystical Kabbalah movement. It became known as one of the Four Holy Cities of Judaism. As the capital of the Safad Sanjak, it was the main population center of the Galilee, with large Muslim and Jewish communities.".‎

‎Small folio (188 x 292 mm). 50 pp. on 26 leaves. Ottoman Turkish in Arabic script. Ink on western laid paper (watermarked "Victory") written within gilt rules, with two 'unwan headpieces in colours and gilt, a corner endpiece, and fine illustrations showing small watercolour portraits of each ruler before gilt discs. Bound in smooth lacquered boards showing a fine floral motif with central medallions and large flower decoration to inner covers; rounded corners; calf spine. Family tree of the Ottoman Sultans, beginning with their purported descent from Adam and Eve and including the prophets Noah, Hud, Lut, Haroon, Joshua, Ishmael, the Abbasids, and Ghenghiz Khan, also noting the kinship between the Seljuks and Turks of central Asia in the Anatolian Seljuk Sultanate. It continues throughout the Ottoman dynasty founded by Osman I Gazi (The Warrior) in the late 13th century and ends with Mehmed IV (d. 1693), showing him seated on the throne. - Some browning and staining throughout; luxuriously decorated lacquer cover shows slight rubbing to lower cover, but beautifully preserved.‎

‎(XVIIIème siècle) 48.5 x 63.5 cm (à vue) - 52.5 x 68 cm ( cadre) , cadre en bois verni. Déchirures dans la partie supérieure n'atteignant pas la composition. Insolé.‎

‎Plan à la plume et aquarelle de la ville fortifiée de Willemstadt au Pays-Bas. Le plan figure la rivière de Hollands-DIep, le Polder de Willemstadt, Ecluse de chasse pour nettoyer le port d'Enfer, Ecluse d'inondation du Heningen polder et Malta Polder. Il s'agit ici de la ville de Willemstadt située aux Pays-bas, à ne pas confondre avec le Willemstadt capitale du Curaçao, un État d'outre-mer néerlandais dans les Caraïbes. La ville hollandaise reçut notamment les 27 et 28 avril 1809 la visite du Roi Louis Napoleon Bonaparte mais également celle de son frère, l'Empereur Napoléon le 4 octobre 1811. L'Empereur y fit d'ailleurs construire une poudrière, conscient de son emplacement stratégique. Les fortifications de la ville, oeuvre attribuée à Adriaen Anthonisz sur la commande de Maurice de Nassau (1576-1625) Prince d'Orange et chef de l'insurrection des Pays-Bas contre le roi d'Espagne Philippe II ne sont pas sans rappeler les futurs travaux de l'architecte Vauban. - - VENTE PAR CORRESPONDANCE UNIQUEMENT - LIEN DE PAIEMENT, NOUS CONSULTER.‎

Brown ink (as well as light red for rubricated terms) in an essentially drawn, compact, non-serifed Yemeni naskh calligraphy. 19th century Arabic manuscript copy of two much earlier mystical works concerning the virtues and benefits related to the knowledge and recitation of the Holy Qur'an, namely: - 1) Kitab al-Barq al-Lami wa’l-Gayt al-Hami ("The Book of the Shining Flashes and Showering Rain"), epitomizing the work of the early Islamic judge Abu Bakr al-Gassani, probably an abridged version of the "Kitab ad-Durr an-Nazim fi Fada'il al-Qur'an al-Azim" by the Yemeni mystic Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn al-Hassab (fl. 1250s AD). - 2) Kitab Hawass Ayat min-al-Qur’an wa Fawatih al-Suwar ("The Book of Peculiarities of the Qur'anic verses and the Surahs’ overtures"), a late work by the famous Persian mystic and thinker Abu Hamid al-Gazali (d. 1111 AD), here referred to by his traditional honorific "Huggatu’l-Islam" ("Proof of Islam"). - The book contains an anthological commentary on specific Qur'anic verses (ayat) and their supposed virtues and talismanic properties. The first work’s initial chapter, e.g., deals with the virtues of those verses in the Holy Qur'an that name the Prophet (an-Nabi) Muhammad. Immediately afterwards, the Ayat al-Shifa’ (i.e., “Healing Verses”) are included. Here, they are nine Qur'anic verses deemed effective against illness if recited by a believer with pure heart. The second part of this codex quotes several Qur'anic verses suitable for specific occasions, listed after each Surah. - Dated in the first colophon, where Amr bin Abi Hurayra is mentioned, the son of a famously prolific Yemeni traditionist and hadith collector (Sunni scholars ascribed to Abu Hurayra more than 5000 hadiths). Ownership stamp of Arnold Bank and pencil annotations on front pastedown. Slipcase worn and separated with loss. Some toning and minor staining to boards title page toned. Plates clean. Good plus. Reproductions of the illuminated manuscript paintings and initials of the Psalter of Pope Paul III evidently by Vincent Raymond. Raymond who was active during the mid 16th century was named by Paul III the official Illuminator to the Papal Court - he is the only person known to have held this position. While the manuscript reproduced here is signed only by the copyist Fredrico Mario de Pérouse the author of the essay preceding the plates makes a strong argument for Raymond's responsibility for the paintings.
