II e III), uno studio articolato in tre sezioni: 'Rabano esegeta', 'Le fonti', 'I Commentari'. Languages : Italian.‎

‎Bibliotheque Nationale de France. Hebreu 214 a 259. Commentaires bibliques,‎

‎Turnhout, Brepols, 2011 Paperback, 420 p., 210 x 297 mm. ISBN 9782503534671.‎

‎catalogue of works pertaining to the explanation of the creed in Carolingian manuscripts,‎

‎Turnhout, Brepols, 2012 Hardback, 402 p., 160 x 240 mm. ISBN 9782503544076.‎

‎The catalogue identifies works used to explain the creed in Carolingian collection volumes compiled for the instruction of the clergy. It includes both edited and unedited works and some recently edited in a companion volume to this one, Explanationes Symboli aeui Carolini (CC CM, 254). The catalogue shows that the teaching of the creedal faith was assembled from snippets of, or whole, patristic works, homilies, personal professions of faith, and works of many other genres. In the past, we have had little concept of the range of works known to those responsible for teaching the faith at the parish and missionary level of the Carolingian world. In this catalogue crucial attention is paid to the contents of the manuscripts as a whole in which the creed explanation is found and how these collection volumes may have functioned. It is hoped that the manuscript descriptions will be of benefit to students and specialists working on other kinds of texts for the education of the clergy. Languages : English, Latin.‎

‎Art et science veterinaire a Byzance. Formes et fonctions de l'image hippiatrique,‎

‎Turnhout , Brepols, 2010 Paperback, VI+288 pages ., 26 colour ill., 210 x 270 mm. fine!! ISBN 9782503534466.‎

‎Letter Collections of Anselm of Canterbury ,‎

‎Turnhout, Brepols, 2012 Hardback, 348 p., 11 b/w ill., 160 x 240 mm. ISBN 9782503540757.‎

‎The letters of Anselm of Canterbury (? 1109) provide the clearest insight into his mind and action, and they also constitute one of our finest vantage points to observe the formation of those profound forces moulding Europe in the late eleventh- and early twelfth centuries. The focus of the present study is the transmission of Anselm's correspondence. It argues that many of the conclusions of earlier scholarship have been constructed on flawed foundations. Using evidence from all known manuscripts and printed editions, the study seeks to demonstrate precisely how Anselm's letters have survived and how the surviving witnesses relate to one another. The study also aims to define the historical contexts within which our key manuscripts were copied and edited. Only when equipped with this store of information can we begin to understand the editorial processes that shaped the textual tradition of Anselm's letter collections before and after his death. ‎Catalogue of Western Book Illumination in the Fitzwilliam Museum and the Cambridge Colleges. Part One: The Frankish Kingdoms, the Netherlands, Germany, Bohemia, Hungary and Austria + the Meuse region Southern Netherlands.‎

‎, Brepols, 2009 two volumes; 292 + 255 =560 p., 750 colour ill., 230 x 330 mm, Languages: English, Hardback wih dusjackets , fine condition !. ISBN 9781905375479.‎

‎This publication is the first to appear in a major new series of catalogues covering all Western medieval illuminated manuscripts in Cambridge, excluding only the manuscripts in the University Library which are being catalogued separately. The entries are based on the most recent studies undertaken by the Cambridge Illuminations Research Project; they are organised geographically by place of origin, and, within that grouping, listed chronologically. The present two-volume catalogue deals with the early manuscripts produced in the Frankish Kingdoms, the splendid, richly illustrated books from the Northern and Southern Netherlands ranging from the thirteenth to the sixteenth century, illuminations from the Meuse region, manuscripts both in Latin and the vernacular from the late eleventh to the end of the sixteenth century from Germany, and lastly an interesting group of books from Bohemia, Austria and Hungary. The focus of the catalogue is on the illumination, and includes detailed listings of all miniatures, decoration and ornamentation, which are made easily accessible by the inclusion of an exhaustive iconographic index. Entries also include much information on the textual contents of the manuscripts and on their provenance, as well as the most recent bibliographical references. Every manuscript catalogued is also illustrated, generally with several images, providing readers with a corpus of some 750 illustrations which are all reproduced in full colour.‎

‎Catalogue of Western Book Illumination in the Fitzwilliam Museum and the Cambridge Colleges. Part One: The Frankish Kingdoms, the Netherlands, Germany, Bohemia, Hungary and Austria SET 2 VOLUMES.‎

‎, Brepols, 2012 Hardback in cloth + dusjacket, 2 vol., 560 pages., 750 colour ill., 230 x 330 mm., Languages: English, fine condition !.

Every manuscript catalogued is also illustrated, generally with several images, providing readers with a corpus of some 750 illustrations which are all reproduced in full colour. Review "These volumes triumphantly justify 'paper cataloguing'. [...] The authors and sponsors are to be warmly congratulated and urged to complete a series that makes a fundamental contribution to knowledge." (A. Ch telet, dans Art et M tiers du Livre 31, D c 2009-f v 2010, p. 91-92) "The first two beautifully designed volumes of Illuminated Manuscripts in Cambridge have all the indices and finding aids (including an index of biblical and non-biblical iconography) to facilitate further research. They are brimming with ideas, are full of dissertation topics, and are testaments to the bounty ? intellectual and sensuous or even sybaritic ? spread out before students of medieval manuscripts." (Kathryn M. Rudy, in HNA Review of Books) "This updating of the traditional manuscript catalogue is a very useful addition to the scholarship on manuscripts in English collections, in part because of the precision and brevity of the updated information, but especially because of the sumptuous illustrations, which provide the irreplaceable visual context for the textual information the catalogue presents." (Stephen Clancy, in Speculum 86/3, July 2011, p. 789) "The series will be a landmark in manuscript studies, and one can only hope that further support will hasten further projected volumes."

‎Catalogue of Western Book Illumination in the Fitzwilliam Museum and the Cambridge Colleges. Part Two: Italy and the Iberian Peninsula‎

‎Hardback, 2 vol., 720 p., 900 colour ill., 230 x 330 mm. ISBN 9781905375851. This new publication constitutes Part Two of the multi-volume Cambridge Illuminations Research Project cataloguing all western illuminated manuscripts in the Fitzwilliam Museum and the Cambridge Colleges. It covers manuscripts produced in Italy and the Iberian Peninsula, ranging from the early Gospels of St Augustine made in sixth-century Rome, through the carefully designed patristic texts from twelfth-century Tuscany and Lombardy, the great law books of thirteenth- and fourteenth-century Bologna, the opulent Books of Hours, elegant Humanistic volumes and enormous Choir Books of the fifteenth century, and finally to the richly decorated and densely ornamented books of sixteenth-century Spain. In addition to the famous treasures, these catalogues include a considerable number of previously unpublished cuttings, among them new attributions to leading artists and exciting discoveries, all of which offer a stimulating source for further research. Every manuscript catalogued is also illustrated, frequently with several images, all reproduced in full colour. Entries for Italian manuscripts are arranged chronologically in the period up to 1200, while manuscripts produced after 1200 are catalogued by region of origin and within that division again by sequence of date. Manuscripts that cannot at present be allocated to a particular region are grouped in a special section, and Spanish books are again catalogued in chronological order. Languages: English.‎

‎S. Papadaki-Oekland;‎

‎Byzantine Illuminated Manuscripts of the Book of Job A Preliminary Study of the Miniature Illustrations. Its Origin and Development,‎

‎Turnhout, Brepols, 2009 Hardback, 478 p., 127 b/w ill. + 285 colour ill., 23 x 30. ISBN 9782503532325.‎

‎Of all the Old Testament books, the Book of Job remains acutely contemporary today. Written between the 6th and 3rd c. B.C., it deals with subjects such as the presence of evil in the world, the misery, the quest for justice, the faith, and the behavior of people when they face sudden twists and turns of life. It seems that the ancient text had been illustrated since the Early Christian period because of its fascinating novel-like narrative style. In her own study on the Book of Job, Stella Papadaki-Oekland probes into all the Byzantine illuminated manuscripts of the illustrated Greek text. The number of miniature illustrations included in these fifteen manuscripts, dating from the 9th to the 16th century, comes to more than 1800 of which 2/3 of the about 380 illustrated herein are previously unpublished manuscript images. The book is an unabridged version with minor changes of Papadaki-Oekland?s Inaugural Dissertation at Heidelberg University (1979) and is published posthumously by her daughters, Helen-Aina and Astrid-Zoe -in homage to Byzantine Art. The fifteen Byzantine Illuminated Manuscript Illustrations of the 'Book of Job' studied, illustrated and discussed are: Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, Rome: cod. Vat. gr. 749; cod. Vat. gr. 751; cod. Vat. gr. 1231 and cod. Vat. Pal. gr.230 - The Monastery of St. John the Theologian, Isle of Patmos: cod. Patmos 171 - Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana, Venezia: cod. Marc. gr. 538 - Monastery of St. Catherine, Sinai, Egypt: cod. Siena 3 - Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem and All Palestine, Jerusalem: MS. Taphou 5 - Monastery of Vatopedi, Mount Athos: Vatopedi 590 - Monastery Magisti (Great) Lavra, Mount Athos: Lavra B100 - Byzantine and Christian Museum, Athens: MS. 62 - Bodleian Library, Oxford: MS. Barocci 201 and MS. Laud gr. 86 - Bibliothegue nationale de France, Paris: MS. gr. 134 and MS. gr. 135 - National Library of Russia, St. Petersburg: MS gr. 382 (former folio of Taphou 5) The study of the Septuagint Book of Job in Byzantine tradition include comparative analysis of the interrelationship of the individual miniature cycles, their general arrangement and artistic character, the origin and development as well as its contents and significance in the literary and popular tradition. Finally, the six Comparative Tables presented at the end of the volume provide the reader for the first time a complete cross reference interrelationship between the individual 1800 images of the 15 manuscripts and 'Sir Lancelot C. L. Brenton's' English translation of the Septuagint 'Book of Job' passages. Further examples of images discussed herein of early Christian 'Job' representations include: Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, Rome, MS.Reg.gr.1 ? known as the Bible of Queen Christina of Sweden; Bibliotheque nationale de France, Paris, MS gr. 510, MS syr. 341-the Syriac Bible and MS.gr. 923- Sacra Parallela; Biblioteca Nazionale 'Vittorio Emanuele III', Naples, Coptic MS IB 18, Catacomb of the Via Latina, Rome and the Sarcophagus of Junius Bassus, Basilica di San Pietro, Rome. Furthermore, the book is of invaluable importance due to its methodological approach. As the leading art historian Hans Belting points out, the study of Stella Papadaki-Oekland calls in question Kurt Weitzmann's rigid theory about the process of the Byzantine illuminated manuscripts production. There?s no doubt that, even though it was written a lot of years ago, this remains the most complete and comprehensive study about the Book of Job in Byzantine art. Languages : English.‎
