Carnet de bienfaisance élégamment relié en maroquin aux armes du Duc de Bordeaux ayant appartenu à Louis Antoine Camille de Cossart (Paris : 1815 - Paris : 1864), fils de Louis Adolphe et marquis d'Espiès, comportant : 1 f. de nomination de Camille D'espiés signé par le baron de Damas, précepteur du duc de Bordeaux, 1 f. d'instruction pour les jeunes trésoriers, et 4 pp. d'exposé de la mission de l'Établissement Saint-Joseph. On trouve les rapports de collecte manuscrits, avec les noms des souscripteurs, des Assemblées du 1er mai 1829 (26 souscriptions pour des montants allant de 5 à 20 francs, pour un total de 166 francs) et du 1er mai 1830 (22 souscriptions de 5 à 30 francs pour un montant total de 156 francs). L'établissement de charité Saint-Joseph, fondé en 1822 puis établi en 1825 dans le Grand Commun du château de Versailles, accueillait les ouvriers et apprentis montés à Paris dans le but de les soustraire « à l'influence des doctrines perverses et au danger du mauvais exemple, en les plaçant dans des maisons chrétiennes, et en leur offrant, les jours de repos, des points de réunion où ils puissent se livrer à des délassements agréables, à des études utiles, à des exercices de piété » (pp. 1-2) ; les ouvriers et apprentis, logés, nourris et soignés un temps aux frais de l'Établissement, étaient ensuite placés chez des maîtres. Les jeunes trésoriers, choisis « dans les familles les plus recommandables » (p. 2), étaient appelés à participer chaque année à une assemblée présidée par le jeune Prince Henri d'Artois, duc de Bordeaux, candidat au trone de France sous le nom d'Henri V, afin de lui remettre le produit de la collecte et la liste des souscripteurs. La dernière de ces assemblées eut lieu en 1830, année où Henri d'Artois fut contraint de s'exiler avec sa famille. Frottements.‎

‎Cet ouvrage abondamment illustre reunit sous forme de catalogue 251 notices consacrees a des plaques de reliures dont plusieurs sont inedites et dont certaines etaient inconnues jusqu'a present. La recherche des auteurs s'est principalement portee sur les bibliotheques francaises, mais aussi sur de nombreux fonds de province et de l'etranger ainsi que sur quelques collections particulieres. Les notices, accompagnees chacune d'un frotti, sont classees suivant l'ordre alphabetique des themes decoratifs. Ce classement permet de mieux integrer les cas douteux et de constituer un instrument de recherche facile d'acces. Chaque notice comprend trois parties: identification de la plaque, liste et description des livres manuscrits ou imprimes qu'elles decorent (avec indication des possesseurs et des cotes anciens) et enfin un commentaire historique indiquant notamment les elements permettant de dater ou de localiser une plaque. Une bibliographie termine la notice. Les auteurs ont etabli les limites chronologiques de l'emploi des plaques en France depuis environ 1480 jusqu'aux annees 1535/1536 en faisant ressortir les influences venues des Pays-Bas ou ce type de decoration etait connu des le XIVe siecle. Le role de Paris est evidemment essentiel, mais d'autres centres importants ont pu etre reperes, a Lyon notamment, mais surtout en Normandie. La consultation de l'ouvrage est facilite par une table alphabetique generale et par une liste des plaques divisee en trois parties: localisations sures, localisations possibles, localisations douteuses. Vient ensuite une table par cote des livres cites. Non seulement les historiens et les historiens du livre, mais egalement les amateurs et les collectionneurs de reliures disposent desormais d'un instrument de reference qui n'est certainement pas pret d'etre remplace. ‎This study of the two-volume Lambeth Bible, one of the premier Romanesque giant bibles, concerns itself with its textual makeup as well as its magnificent illumination. It reports the results of research on texts and imagery found in over a hundred English and continental Romanesque Bibles. Comparative study of the prefatory materials in these Bibles yielded significant new understandings of their importance and represents a major conclusion of this study. They are important aids in establishing places of origin of biblical manuscripts and in the study of the illumination chosen for them. Exhaustive study of the prologues, chapter lists, and other miscellaneous texts in both volumes of the Lambeth Bible and other English Bibles, has helped to establish that the Lambeth Bible was not made at St. Albans or at Christ Church, Canterbury, two of the sites often suggested for its production. Six beautiful miniatures and thirty-one historiated initials remain in the Lambeth Bible so examination of their iconography is a major aspect of this book. This study includes both a search for visual and textual models for the imagery used in the Lambeth Bible and an investigation of the significance of those subjects in the twelfth century. In a surprising number of cases a relationship existed between the prologue preceding a biblical book and the imagery with which it was illuminated. Thus what initially seemed to be isolated instances of drawing inspiration from the prologues was in fact a customary practice of the makers of the Lambeth Bible. Languages : French, English.‎

Das mehr oder weniger heitere Künstlervölkchen hat sich mit Leib und Seele im Gemeinschaftseinsatz bei einem umfangreichen Aufräum- und Bauvorhaben am Theater der Bauleitung zur Verfügung gestellt. Wir sind dadurch in den letzten 4 Wochen erheblich weiter gekommen. Das gesamte Dach ist dicht. Die Seitenbühne Schillerstraße zum 'Bahnhof' und zur Tischlerei hin zugemauert. Fenster verglast, Proberäume geschaffen, die Kantine (wird demnächst als Werkküche wiedereröffnet) in neuer Schönheit und, nicht zuletzt, die Heizanlage, soweit sie die benutzbaren Räume betrifft, in Ordnung gebracht. Hoffentlich wird uns nun von H. M. die beantragte Menge Gas bewilligt. Denn davon hängt so ziemlich alles ab. Mit Koksöfchen kann man auf dieser Bühne im Winter nicht arbeiten. Von Rudolstadt haben wir nichts mehr zu erhoffen, in schwierigen Fällen mit Kostümen im Austauschwege (Tausche Manon-Dekoration gegen Sommernachtstraum-Kostüme) mit Metz einig zu werden [...]".‎
