Very Good Turkish Original autograph letter signed by Haldun Taner. 30x21 cm. In Turkish. 1 p. 16 lines in Turkish with a legible manuscript. On a hotel paper with the advertising of German Lufthansa Airways in Bonn. Rheinhotel engraved. Addressed to Ulvi Uraz, (1921-1974), who was a famous Turkish theater and cinema actor and director. Taner was a well-known Turkish playwright and short story writer. He was born on March 16, 1915, in Istanbul. After graduating from the Galatasaray High School in 1935, he studied politics and economy at the University of Heidelberg in Germany, until a serious health problem forced him to return to Turkey, where he graduated from the Faculty of German Literature and Linguistics in 1950. He also studied theatre and philosophy at the University of Vienna between 1955 and 1957 under the direction of Heinz Kindermann (1894-1985), an Austrian theater and literary scholar. As a well-disciplined writer accumulating a rich blend of culture, Taner wrote a great number of stories, generally humorous; essays, newspaper columns, travel writings and theatre plays, in particular, brought him several important awards including the New York Herald Tribune Story Contest First Prize (1954), the Sait Faik Story Award (1954), the International Festival of the Humor of Bordighera Award (1969), and so on. Among his plays, the most popular is Kesanli Ali Destani (Epopee of Ali of Keshan). His stories have been translated into German, French, English, Russian, Greek, Slovenian, Swedish, and Hebrew. Taner affected Turkish theater with the so-called Haldun Taner Theater named after his school of cabaret theater style. In 1967, together with Metin Akpinar, Zeki Alasya, and Ahmet Gülhan, he founded the Devekusu Kabere ("Ostrich Cabaret Theater"). He educated and worked with many actors and directors. In addition, he has a distinguished place in Turkish literature due to his essays, and newspaper articles.

In Ottoman script entirely. It starts as 'Azîz dinleyicilerim!', and she asks the listeners 'do you like Urfa?'. A sketch and a draft text of an enthusiastic and nationalist speech on Urfa prepared for Behçet Kemal Çaglar's radio program. Zorlutuna was a Turkish female poet. She is referred to as "the mother of women writers". She has syllabic poems and novels written in basic spoken Turkish. She is the mother of novelist Emine Isinsu, elder sister of writer Ismet Kür (1916-2013), and aunt of writer Pinar Kür.

Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original manuscript autograph poem signed by Halide Nusret Zorlutuna. 23,521 cm. In Ottoman script. 17 lines. Some corrections. 1 p. Zorlutuna was a Turkish female poet. She is referred to as "the mother of women writers". She has syllabic poems and novels written in basic spoken Turkish. She is the mother of novelist Emine Isinsu, elder sister of writer Ismet Kür (1916-2013), and aunt of writer Pinar Kür. This manuscript probably has an early sketch of her poem titled 'Kerkük'e gazel' [i.e. Ghazal to Kirkuk]. It has a few differences of the poem's last form. It is known that she lived in Kirkuk with her officer father for a while and she loved this city, where a large number of Turcomans lived. An annotation on the bottom of the paper with two lines including an emotional inscription to her brother who passed away while he was in Kirkuk and to her other relatives and friends. Under the annotation a signature: 'H. N. Z.'.

Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original manuscript autograph letter/document signed by Halil Edhem Eldem as the director of Müze-yi Humâyûn [i.e. The first Ottoman / Turkish Archaeological Museum] sent to Mehmed Fuaad Köprülü, (1890-1966), requesting the return of books (listed on letter) borrowed from the museum's library. 35x21 cm. In Ottoman script. Includes 10 lines. Water stain on a big area on the paper. The script is fine and legible. A couple of punch-holes on the left side. Otherwise a good paper. Mentioned books are written at the beginning of the letter as a list: 1. Mongol history in French. 2. Jornal Azbatin (?). 3. Hun tarihi [i.e. History of Huns]. 4. A manuscript on the Ottoman geography. An interesting and rare manuscript. Halil Bey is an important figure in Turkish cultural history who operated in the late Ottoman period and the beginning of the Republic period. As he was the head of the Asari Atîka Museum, he was mostly interested in ancient works, but also worked on Turkish-Islamic inscriptions and coins. Halil Bey, who made important contributions to the development of Turkish museums, made efforts to collect and publish hundreds of inscriptions in Anatolia and to protect and restore Turkish architectural works.

Appeal for sending a paper to the 'XVth Sociology Congress' attn. preparation committee, held in Istanbul, 1952. Dated 11.VIII.1952. Signed as 'AÜDTCF New Eras History Professor'. One autograph correction as well. On a paper with an "Extra Strong" watermark. Inalcik was a Turkish historian of the Ottoman Empire. His highly influential research centered on social and economic approaches to the empire. His academic career started at Ankara University, where he completed his Ph.D. and worked between 1940 and 1972. Between 1972 and 1986 he taught Ottoman history at the University of Chicago. From 1994 on he taught at Bilkent University, where he founded the history department. He was a founding member of Eurasian Academy.

Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original manuscript autograph letter signed 'Sadrazam Rifat' sent to Tophâne-i Âmire müsiri Mustafa Zeki Pasa [i.e. Grand master of Turkish artillery]. 38x24 cm. In Ottoman script. Folded. 1 p. It's an official celebration for Mustafa Zeki Pasha's achievements in the Turco-Greco War in 1897-1898. It's written in a beautiful riq'a script. Halil Rifat Pasha was an Ottoman statesman and a Grand Vizier for six years between 1895 until his death in 1901, during the reign of Abdul Hamid II. He was born in Serres (Serez) and received education in an Islamic type parish school in Salonica (Selanik), then continued to Mekteb-i Mülkiye in Constantinople. After his education years, he started to work as a mailing clerk in Vidin, then worked as secretary in the office of the Governor of Salonica. He advanced by degrees and was appointed to higher official positions by passage of time, including at Rustchuk. In 1882 he was appointed as mutasarrif of Vidin, then in 1886 he was appointed as governor of Sivas, where he started a road-building programme. He was subsequently appointed governor of Aidin (1889) and later of Monastir, where he fought brigandage units which was rife in the province. He was appointed as minister of internal affairs in 1893 . Then he was appointed as grand vizier in November 1895 . The most important events in his era as grand vizier were the riots of Sason (in 1895) and in Crete (in 1897), as well as the Greco-Turkish War of 1897 which ended with Ottoman victory. His motto in the road building campaign was "Any place where you can't go is not yours"! (Gidemedigin yer senin degildir!). Zeki Pasha was one of the most trusted Ottoman generals and statesmen of the Sultan Abdulhamid II. He served as Tophane Counselor for 18 years during the reign of Sultan Abdülhamid II. In 1899, Italian architect Alexandre Vallaury built the 'Tophane Müsiri Zeki Pasa Mansion (Yali)', one of the most valuable estates of Istanbul, on his behalf. In 1908, he fell out of favor with the declaration of the Second Constitutional Monarchy by Union and Progress Society (Ittihat ve Terakki Cemiyeti) and was deported first to Büyükada and then to Rhodes. Very Good French Original autograph letter signed 'Hamdoullah Soubhi', to Rechid Safvet Atabinen, who was a counselor of Geneve International Economy Conference in 1919. 20x16 cm. Completely in French. 3 p. Subhi writes that he welcomes the dispatch from Constantinople, where he does not feel very well, to Geneva, where he feels young. He tells that Rifat Pasha (Turkish ambassador in Geneve) and he was late for that he delivered his 'biography' and 'portrait'. He mentions the meeting (probably, The Geneve International Economy Conference). Then he uses an interesting style by writing "It is not our duty to thank Rechid Safvet Bey, on behalf of those supporting us here, and to have defended the Turkish Cause with this documentation which follows...". He goes on as 'So much the news published in the Italian, French, English and German newspapers about our country is translated' and 'Also, having made a nine conference on the event that took place in Germany'... Foxing on paper slightly chipped on margins. Folded. Hamdullah Suphi Tanriöver was a highly influential Turkish poet, intellectual, diplomat, and politician. He adopted his surname Tanriöver after the Turkish Surname Law was enacted in 1934. He was born to Abdüllatif Suphi Pasha, an Ottoman statesman in Constantinople in 1885. He studied at Galatasaray High School graduating in 1904. He later served as a translator, and a teacher for Turkish after earning a certificate. In Darülfünün, later renamed to Istanbul University, he was appointed professor of Islamic art. During the Turkish Republic era, he was elected to the parliament, and also served as a government minister. He married to Ayse Saide, who, according to some sources, was a descendant of two former Anatolian beys (Isfendiyarids and Ramazanids). During his childhood, his father's mansion was a meeting point of famous poets, and he was influenced by the poet community during his early years. He published his first poems in a literary newspaper published by his uncle in Paris, France. He began writing in Genç Kalemler (literally: "The Young Pens"), a literary periodical. He also distinguished himself as an orator. He took part in a committee, which was tasked to reflect the ordeal of the Turkish population in the Balkans after the Balkan Wars (1912-1913). During the Turkish War of Independence (1919-1923), he took side with Mustafa Kemal Pasha (Atatürk), and became a member of the 1st Parliament of Turkey. He was appointed Director of the Press and Information. Then, he served as the Minister of Education from 13 December 1920 to 20 November 1921 in the 1st, 2nd, and the 3rd cabinet of the Executive Ministers of Turkey. After the proclamation of the Republic, he served again as the Minister of National Education in the 4th government of Turkey between 3 March 1925 and 21 December 1925. In 1931, he was appointed Ambassador of Turkey to Romania in Bucharest. In 1943, he entered the parliament from the Republican People's Party. In 1950, he joined the newly founded Democrat Party. Several years later, however, following the struggle for the "Right to Prove" in the press, he co-founded the Liberty Party. Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original autograph letter signed 'Hâmid Sevket Ince'. 22x14 cm. In Ottoman script. 1 p. Full. Ince was a Turkish politician and a famous lawyer inAnkara city. He is a graduate of Istanbul University Faculty of Law. He served as the Deputy of Erzurum and Ankaraand he worked as a freelance lawyer. Dated 22/6/1936. Recipient was 'Mr. M. Sadik'. Punch holes on left side. A good paper with '...en Bank' watermarked.

Catalogue of Ninety-One Manuscripts on Vellum, Illuminated by English (Anglo-Saxon), Byzantine, French, Flemish, Dutch, Burgundian, German, Italian and Spanish Artists, of the VIIth to the XVIIth Century, Chiefly from the Famous Hamilton Collection, and till Lately in the Possession of the Royal Museum of Berlin. Which will be Sold by Auction by Sotheby, Wilkinson & Hodge, on Thursday, the 23rd day of May, 1889.
4to (270 x 175 mm), viii, 79pp., orig. printed wrappers spotted, spine chipped, 91 lots. The Duke of Hamilton had collected a remarkable series of mediaeval manuscripts, mainly illuminated, at an early age. This collection was purchased, for ?70,000, by the Prussian government. Because of the high cost of the collection, it was decided to sell a portion of it, hence this memorable sale which included the purple vellum codex of the Gospels presented by Henry VIII to Pope Leo X; it was bought by Quaritch for ?1500, sold to Theodore Irwin, of Oswego, and re-sold, in 1900, to Mr Pierpont Morgan.

Very Good Turkish Autograph document signed 'H. Görele' and co-signed by Ersin Satgan. 29x21 cm. In Turkish. 1 p. Dated April 17, 1968. 7 lines. He was born in Görele in Giresun city. He graduated from 'Güzel Sanatlar Akademisi' [i. e. Fine Arts Academy]. He worked in Loht Workshop in Paris. After he exhibited his paintings in Bucuresti and Paris, known for his expressionist style in his early years. He started to give his products in the style of Constructivism. And he was the president of 'Society of Contemporary Turkish Artists'. This autograph letter was written in his presidency period and signed as 'Baskan [i.e. President] Hamit Görele'.
