Hij heette eigenlijk Cornelis (Abts) van Kiele, en ondertekende documenten zelf met Cornelis van Kiel(e) of C. Kiel. Naar de gewoonte van zijn tijd werd zijn naam ook dikwijls gelatiniseerd tot Cornelius Kilianus. Deze variant werd uiteindelijk vernederlandst tot Cornelis Kiliaan, de naam waaronder hij vandaag nog bekend is.

By harnessing biography to art history, he has managed to crack the code of cubism more successfully than any of his predecessors. And by bringing fresh light to bear on the artist's too often sensationalized private life, he has succeeded in coming up with a totally new view of this paradoxical man and of his paradoxical work. Richardson recounts the untold story of how his two great loves of 1915-1917 successively turned him down; and how these disappointments, as well as his horror at the outbreak of World War I and the wounds it inflicted on his closest friends, Braque and Apollinaire, shadowed his painting and drove him off to Rome--back to the ancient world. For Picasso, art would always have a magic function. As Richardson reveals, the artist saw himself as a shaman who could use his art to cast spells, both good and bad, and play all manner of ingenious and sardonic games. This greatest of modern artists knew better than anyone how to outrage us, also how to fascinate, puzzle and disturb us. SUMMARY For a period of over 50 years, from his first visit to Palmyra in the 1920s until the late 1970s, Danish archaeologist Harald Ingholt carefully collected and curated a detailed archive of Palmyrene sculpture, architecture, and epigraphy. Containing approximately 2000 images, each archive sheet contains handwritten annotations on Palmyrene funerary art, transcribes and translates inscriptions, includes detailed observations on object style and dating, and provides bibliographical information for each sculpture. As such, this archive is a treasure trove of information on Palmyrene sculpture, architecture, and epigraphy. Moreover, Ingholt?s notes go beyond shedding light on the creation of these sculptures, and also provide rich information about their more recent histories: object biographies offer details on provenance, collection history, and excavation photography. In doing so, they offer unique insights into twentieth-century excavation, conservation, and collection practices. Since 1983, Ingholt?s archive has been housed at the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen, Denmark, and then, from 2012 onwards, the archive took digital shape within the framework of the Palmyra Portrait Project at Aarhus University. In 1975 verscheen b.g.v. het 550-jarig bestaan van de universiteit van Leuven een groots opgezette geschiedschrijving, inclusief de geschiedenis van de gebouwen, de bibliotheek en het studentenleven. De nieuwe editie van dit gedenkboek is met nieuw onderzoek verbeterd en aangevuld met een vierde deel over de Katholieke Universiteit Leuven na het vertrek van de franstaligen in 1968. De grootste universiteit van Belgie was vanaf 1425 tot de oprichting van de universiteit van Leiden in 1574 de enige universiteit in de toenmalige Nederlanden. Van 1817-1830, toen Belgie met Nederland verenigd was, werd zij rijksuniversiteit. In 1834 werd door de Belgische bisschoppen een franstalige Katholieke Universiteit opgericht, die als een van de staat onafhankelijke instelling aansloot bij de middeleeuwse Alma Mater. De plaats van de universiteit in de geestelijke en maatschappelijke ontwikkelingen, eerst van de Nederlanden (o.a. Erasmus, Jansenisme) en later van Belgie (o.a. de taalstrijd), komen goed uit de verf. De geschiedenis is boeiend beschreven met prachtige illustraties, voor een deel in kleur.
