In-4 de XXVIII-199-(1) pp., 5 gravures hors texte, maroquin rouge à long grain, roulette, filets et frise dorés en encadrement, fleuron aux angles, chiffres couronnés au centre des plats, dos lisse orné, tranches dorées (reliure de l’époque).‎

‎Édition originale sur grand papier vélin de ce poème à la gloire de Louis XVI et de sa famille, illustré de 5 figures hors texte gravées par Audinet dont une scène à la Conciergerie et les portraits en médaillon de Marie-Antoinette, Madame Élisabeth, le Dauphin et Louis XVI - le dernier d’après Danloux.L'impression est sortie des presses de Dulau et Nardini, imprimeurs, libraires et éditeurs à Londres. Lorsque les congrégations furent supprimées au début de la Révolution, l’abbé Arnauld Dulau se trouva dans l'obligation de s'exiler pour l'Angleterre à Londres, où pour subvenir à ses besoins il créa une imprimerie avec Nardini « La Société Typographique Française », et une librairie à son nom. Considérer comme imprimeur, éditeur et libraire de la pensée Gallicane, il devint par excellence le fournisseur de la colonie émigrée française de Londres. L'abbé travailla pour un grand nombres d'ecclésiastiques : l'abbé Carron le jeune, l'abbé Pierre Vinson, l'abbé de Chateaugiron, l’abbé Jacques Delille (1738-1813), pour son écrit Le Malheur et la Pitié, manuscrit acheté en 1803, et Monseigneur de Boisgelin Evêque d'Aix, pour son "Psalmiste". Également il publia les premiers tomes de l'oeuvre de Chateaubriand Génie du Christianisme, annonce faite en juin 1803, dans le journal de Jean-Gabriel Peltier L'Ambigu. La Société Typographique Française, se trouvait, au 15, Poland Street, quartier de Soho-Square et la librairie au 107, Wardour Street, quartier ou pendant la révolution française logeaient dans les différentes demeures aristocratiques transformées en hôtel, un grand nombres d'émigrés ; entre autre l'hôtel de Sablonier, à Leicester Square, il y demeura Talleyrand en 1792, Rivarol et Peltier en 1794. L'abbé Arnauld Dulau, mourut, le 9 octobre 1813 à 51 ans, et fut inhumé à Londres, dans le cimetière de Saint-Pancrace. Ex dono manuscrit au verso de la garde supérieure : donné par Laberye pour mes étrennes le 1er février 1819. Timbre humide ex-libris de la bibliothèque du château de Sancerre au chiffre C.M. Pâles rousseurs.Très bel exemplaire à grandes marges sur papier vélin fort en maroquin décoré du début du XIXe siècle aux deux chiffres couronnés (EC et LA) non identifiés.Cohen De Ricci, 280.‎

The first group of advertisements are printed in blue ink, in a large variety of decorative display type, accompanied with a few interesting woodcut illustrations. 8vo. 225 mm. Juniata Library bookplate (withdrawn). Original printed boards binding, with an advertisement for Desilver on the rear board. Leather spine deteriorated; front board almost detached. Age stain to text. Printed on the front cover: 'Note to Borrowers. In consequence of the numerous applications at the store of the publisher to borrow the directory, and as he has been at great expense and trouble to compile it for the accommodation of the public, he has come to the determination of CHARGING SIX CENTS for every search. Purchasers are earnestly requested not to loan their books.' On the title page is the autograph ownership of: 'Francis Shoemaker, 51 S. Wharves.' He was a merchant with an extensive trade in Cuba, and the Caribbean, and is listed in the Directory. Text printed in two columns. It includes: the names of the citizens alphabetically arranged, with their occupations and places of abode; a list of the streets, alleys, lanes, courts, roads and wharves, banks, insurance companies; national and their societies, literary, scientific and charitable institutions; Custom House Department, Post Office, churches with their pastors and sextons, foreign, consular and other agents, resident abroad and in the United States, &c. There is also a chart of Regulations (for the ringing) of the State House Bell in Case of Fire. Many examples of this directory includes an Almanac, but here that is replaced by: The Will of the Late Stephen Girard, Esq Procured from the Office for the Probate of Wills, with a Short Biography of his Life. Philadelphia: Published by Thomas and Robert Desilver 1832. The controversy over the Will of Stephen Girard (1750-1831) was of great interest in this era. His large estate was divided - with $140,000 given to relatives and charities; $300,000 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania "for internal improvement by canal navigation"; his real estate in Louisiana (208,000 acres) he left to New Orleans; $500,000 he left to Philadelphia to create Delaware Avenue, clean up the waterfront, pave, remove all wooden buildings and other projects to improve the city. The bulk of his estate was left to create what became Girard College, to educate the poor white orphan boys with a trade. His will gives instructions about the College, both physical and administrative. Some of Girard's heirs contested the will in what became a "classic in American legal history, contributing not a little to the clarification of the law of charities" (DAB). ‎Nouvelle impression en petits caractères du recueil théologique de Desmarets de Saint-Sorlin connu sous le titre Ouvrages de piété, de prose et de vers. Contient : Le Chemin de la Paix, 1684 (73 p.) ; Abraham ou la vie parfaite (40 p.) ; Les Vertus chrétiennes (24 p.) ; Maximes chrétiennes (30 p.) ; Prières chrétiennes (19 p.). Chaque pièce a sa pagination propre, la première datée présente une page de titre.Après une carrière de dramaturge - protégé du cardinal de Richelieu, il fit partie de l'Académie française dès sa création et en fut le premier chancelier -, Jean Desmarets de Saint-Sorlin (1595-1676) devint vers l'âge de cinquante ans extrêmement dévot jusqu'à verser dans le délire mystique, affirmant qu'il écrivait sous la dictée de Dieu. Il ne publia dès lors plus que des oeuvres religieuses qui furent rassemblées une première fois après sa mort, en 1678 ; « on attribue à Desmarets plusieurs petits ouvrages de piété dont les titres ne portent ni nom d'auteur ni lieu d'impression mais qui ont été imprimés avec les petits caractères qui paraissent être les mêmes que ceux de la Bible dite de Richelieu, publiée en 1656 » (Brunet).Ce recueil fut imprimé avec ces mêmes caractères en 1680 puis 1684 - les pièces variaient suivant les exemplaires, si bien que les bibliographies ne présentent pas toujours le même contenu.« Les caractères d'argent, d'une finesse précieuse, qui ont servi aux poésies de Desmarets, en 1654, et qui composaient le fonds de l'imprimerie du château de Richelieu, venaient du fond de Jeannon, imprimeur des Huguenots, à Sedan. En quelles mains se trouvaient ces caractères, en 1680, époque de la présente réimpression (…) ? » (Du Roure).Quelques traces manuscrites à l'encre du temps dont un ex-libris inachevé ce livre apar (…).
