First and only edition of this probably rarest work by the Bregenz-born historiographer. The book was published "on the occasion of Albrecht of Brandenburg's creation as cardinal in honour of his defence of Christianity against the Turks, and the awarding of a sword and helmet-like fur cap, blessed by Pope Leo X on Christmas Day, to Emperor Maximilian through the hands of the Papal legates Cajetan and Lang" (cf. A very rare oriental grammar, unknown to Vater and Jülg: the first true grammar of Aramaic produced in France, expanded from Mercier's similarly titled "Tabulae in Chaldaeam grammaticen" published in 1550 (a slight work of a mere 18 leaves). The French oriental scholar Jean Mercier (ca. 1510-70) studied under François Vatable, whom he succeeded as professor of Hebrew at the Collège Royal. Created Lecteur du Roi in 1546, Mercier later was forced to flee to Venice because of his Protestant sympathies but returned to France and there died of the plague. "L'hébraïsant J. ‎Mexico 1770. Very good. Small broadside approximately 12.25 x 8.25 inches. Minor wear a couple of small chips at edges. Light toning and dust soiling. This single-page production printed in double-column format in Roman and italic types shows a mid-18th-century change to the Catholic marriage service and is essentially a cancel to be inserted into the liturgy book. The place and date of publication are based on typography and watermark. This scarce example of job printing for the church in Mexico is not located by the standard bibliographies and OCLC locates only one copy at the Bridwell Library. unknown‎
