Illustrated with eight full-page colored drawings by Richard Floethe. Language: English. Weight: 14.5 ounces. Maroon cloth over boards with a silver design at the front panel and silver titles and designs at the backstrip. Hardcover: Lacks DJ. Mary 'Noel Streatfeild' OBE 1895 1986 was an English author best known for children's books including the "Shoes" books which were not a series though some of them made references to others. She won the third annual Carnegie Medal for The Circus Is Coming. She was a member of the Streatfeild family an aristocratic English house of the landed gentry from Chiddingstone Kent. Several of her novels have been adapted for film or television. Her first children's book was Ballet Shoes published by J. M. Dent in 1936. She recalled "The story poured off my pen more or less telling itself . It was a commended runner-up for the inaugural Carnegie Medal from the Library Association recognising the year's best British children's book and it launched a successful career in writing for children. For her third book and third "Shoes" novel 'The Circus Is Coming' later published as 'Circus Shoes' she won the 1938 Carnegie Medal. She was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire OBE in 1983. In 'Theater Shoes' Sorrel Mark and Holly are living with their grandmother who has almost nothing in London. This 'shoe' book in a way characteristic of this 'series' centers around their troubles and how hard they work to earn money by preforming even though they do not want to and how each one of them finds their own special talent. You get to know the charecters so well that you feel like you are one of them.
