Hardcover 100 pp. Inscribed personalized and signed by July Hurford Smith Farley. A collection of some of the photographs taken by Noel E. Hurford during his 42 years at the Hardin County Independent newspaper. Black and white photographs throughout. In very good condition. Glossy black and white pictorial Paper over Boards have light bumping to edges and light overall scuffing. Binding tight. Pages clean and unmarked. NOT Ex-Library. NO remainder marks. Excerpts from introduction The Hardin County Independent was established in 1871 in Elizabethtown Illinois - Hardin County. Several publishers and owners have kept this small weekly newspaper going consistently since that time for the good of its people. In 1959 Noel E. Hurford began working at the Independent for a second time and stayed with it for the next 40 years eventually becoming owner publisher and managing editor. As with most small town newspaper publishers the list of duties is long -- gatherer of news writer editor photographer darkroom attendant bookkeeper payroll clerk handyman equipment repairer carpenter mediator — all of which Hurford was accomplished. However he excelled in photography and took hundreds of pictures for the newspaper through his 40 year career. Many of them were taken with a Graflex Super Graphic camera. After the passing of Noel and Betty Hurford in 2008 and 2012 respectively I began to take more interest in those photo albums. I realized their worth simply for the fact that they were classing black and white pictures of outstanding quality. The goal with this book was to be able to identify each and every person in those pictures. I almost reached that goal; however a few people remain unnamed in the group pictures. At last count over 400 people are show in this book. Hardin County Independent, Elizabethtown, Ill hardcover
