Publisher's tan cloth with central gilt emblems to covers vertical red leather labels on spines ruled and lettered in gilt. With red silk page-markers. Title pages printed in black and red scene numbers printed in red throughout text. Minor extremity wear some light rubbing to a few of the spine labels else a near fine set.A beautiful edition of Moliere printed by A.A.M. Stols of Holland and printed on special paper made by J. Contemporary half calf with six spine compartments between raised bands. Gilt-tooled title in second compartment of each with gilt-tooled volume number in third and gilt-tooled decoration in remaining compartments. Marbled paper over boards. Marbled endpapers and all edges marbeld. Green ribbon bookmarks. Published in 1863 and 1864. Makes up the first 7 volumes of the publisher's series Chefs-d'Oeuvre de la Littérature Française. Plates are signed: "G. Staat del. F. Delannoy sc." A heavy set; for international shipping it will have to be sent by priority international. In Very Good- Condition: edges rubbed; minor loss at head or tail of several spines; discoloration at upper edge of first 50 pages and faint dampstain at lower corner of final 80 pages of vol. 5; dampstain at upper corner of first third of vol. 6; otherwise text and plates are clean and bright. Minor shelfwear and rubbing to bindings a little stronger on some of the edges of the five raised bands on the spines not affecting materially shelf appeal. Each play accompanied with a full page copper engraved plate measuring 9.5 by 6 inches and these are by various artists and printers too numerous to list in the entirety. Typical offsetting of these plates onto facing pages. Some foxing never disconcerting on the backs of a few plates and in the plate margins. This is overall at least a very good copy and also a sturdy set that notwithstanding its age one can very comfortably read from without apprehension. Chez Lefevre, Libraire unknown
