He explains that he is setting up 'one of our South Windows' in memory of his sister-in-law Harriet who died in 1851 addiing that 'S Parr also gave a Stone Pulpit & Eagle Lectern'. He discusses 'Little Harriet & Caroline' who are 'harmless' and thanks him for the 'Maidstone Papers'. He concludes in the hope that the recipient 'can make intercession with any who wd take an interest in our old Church'. He begins with regard to a change of address 'Widcombe Manor - where I was overhoused and understaffed - is for sale.' and continues with reference to a booklet 'I chuckled over the illustrations'as well as his book 'An Impending Sword' written 'in the naughty nineties long before I met Dot Boucicault whose experiences were then unknwon to me' and the Princess Royal. He concludes: 'I never heard the yarn of the man who stripped himself. I can cap it. My brother Arthur vanished from the luncheon table. He was found stark naked under the table. When my mother asked him to explain he replied: "Nobody took any notice of ME!"' Vachell has added in autograph: 'He was six years old'. An autograph postscript reads: 'I have a tolerably clean bill of health'. Also present are carbons of two letters from Duncan dated 16 and 18 July 1953. The first 1p. 4to poses the questions to which Vachell's letter responds; the second 5pp. 4to is a chatty attempt at initiating a correspondence. He continues with a discussion of the 'far from rosy' situation with a need for the 'replacement of the computer whichc has already done yeoman service; a Solid state Physics Institute; Chemical engineering and facilities for dealing with Food Technology etc. etc.' A paragraph follows with reference to 'the industrious new Campus on Neve Shanaan and the old overcrowded one on Hadar of the Carmel' and praising 'what the Technion has been doing ever since its inception over 40 years ago and its vital potential for Israel's future'. In his opinion 'Works on Forrest sic trees and Landscape Gardening throw no light on either disease or Longivity sic of Plants. ‎On letterheads of 22 Carlton House Terrace S.W. London Between 30 March 1915 and 24 January 1916. Each of the six letters is 1p 4to. In good condition on lightly aged and worn paper. With the Society's stamps and annotations. On topics including the printed version of a paper given by Hadfield and the offer to the society of a paper by his friend 'Mr E. P. Reynolds of Bournemouth' whose father 'Mr E. Reynolds … was the mainspring of the Engineering side of Messrs Vickers Sheffield'. On 30 November 1915 he writes regarding 'Dr Dugald Clerk's recent excellent Address as Chairman' that he 'wrote Sir Philip Magnus on this same subject in reference to a letter he contributed to “The Times†… I think this country has done “more than its share†in the science of Metallurgy. Our leading men of science have been kind enough to say that the first great development in steel alloys sprang from my paper “Manganese steel†to the Institute of Civil Engineers in 1888 and the great French scientist Monsieur Floris Osmond a person friend of the late Sir William Roberts-Austen made the remarks given in the enclosed statement P.5694 not present which also includes the remarks of several other distinguished men regarding my research work yet I am certainly not a German.'
