‎GUIDA 2002 400 PP. FONDO DI MAGAZZINO: PERFETTO E INTONSO. Mazzini fu uno dei quattro Padri fondatori della patria: con Cavour, con Garibaldi e con re Vittorio Emanuele II. Il quale ultimo sembrò, in un primo momento, accaparrarsi il titolo in proprio, nei libri di scuola. Ma poi la storia ha provveduto, con la sua saggezza, alla correzione anagrafica. Mazzini, cospiratore carbonaro, agitatore rivoluzionario, esule in Francia, in Svizzera e, a lungo, in Inghilterra, triumviro della repubblica romana, fu, nei dieci anni e nei trenta mesi che fecero l'Italia, l'incudine ideale su cui batté il martello politico di Cavour, in 'concordia discors' l'uno con l'altro. Dopo la caduta della repubblica del '49, dopo le forche di Belfiore e la mancata insurrezione di Milano, parecchi mazziniani si distaccarono dal maestro e riposero nel cassetto il loro sogno giovanile. Biografo anche di 'Mussolini' (1988), ritrattista degli 'Uomini del duce' (1986), nonché dei suoi oppositori ('La rivoluzione promessa' 1982), ha raccolto le confessioni in grigioverde dei padri e dei figli che combatterono le due guerre mondiali ('La solitudine della guerra', 1994). Ha scritto inoltre sulle riviste eretiche dell'intellighentia fiorentina (1997) nei vent'anni del fascismo e ha fatto la cronaca storica, giorno per giorno, dell'Agosto '39 (1997).
