The Houston Press Newspaper Houston. Very Good. 1963. First Edition. An authentic newspaper Vol. 53; No. 51; November 22 1963 published by the Houston Press on the day of John F. Kennedy's assassination. This is an Extra Edition as the regular edition had already gone to press. The main headline is: JFK Assassin Suspect Married To Russian. The secondary headlines are: Killed Policeman Before Arrest referring to Oswald Connally Seriously Wounded Johnson Is 36th President. The second half of the front page shows a photo of Kennedy Johnson and Connally. Several news bulletins announcing the assassination are on the front page. The first sentence of each bulletin is: "President Kennedy Has Been Assassinated" "White House Secretary Malcom Kilduff said the President's body would be flown to Washington this afternoon" Dallas "Police Captain Pat Gannaway said a suspect was an employee in a building where a rifle was found". Other front page story headlines were: The President Was Conscious; 3 Shots Were Heard Pope retires To Chapel In Grief; All Movie Theaters Closed; and President's Death Closes All Exchanges. There are 14 pages in the Extra Edition. Page one and two are stories of the assassination. Pages 9 and 10 contain some stories of Kennedy's trip to Dallas published in the regular edition before he was assassinated. The rest of the pages are filled with advertisements and articles that appeared in the regular edition of that day. The red stripe on the right of the front page is an indicator to the pressmen that the newsprint roll on the press was getting low helps authenticate that this was an original . The newspaper is in Very Good condition with only slight yellowing due to age. There are no tears or writing in the paper. The newspaper is suitable for framing. ; Regular Newspaper Size. . <p>Richmond: The Infantry Journal. December 11939 volume 46 number 6. 111pp. illus. magazine 4to: Very Good condition. Colorful cover illustration "Civil War Christmas" by Howard Williamson that depicts a celebration at a Union encampment in which soldiers revel with abundant food and drink around a roaring campfire while several heavily armed Confederates look on from the shadows. Includes a separate supplementary Roster of Infantry Officers with home stations as of November 1 1939. An especially interesting issue because of its publication immediately after the start of World War II. Contains an article "The German Campaign in Poland" by Lt. Col. von Wedel of the Wehrmacht that presents a German viewpoint. The article is accompanied by many photographs and battle maps. Numerous other articles and features including photographs of a tin pot-hatted American soldier adopting various "anti-aircraft" positions in order to fire Springfield rifles at attacking aircraft! George Washington to Hamburg Southampton and Cherbourg and Cobh Queenstown with a passenger list menu and one tiny photograph of the Statue of Liberty. Though no details of this journey are provided one legend is recorded in manuscript: A one-page telling of �The Seven Sluggards in the Courtyard of the Paula Becher Modersohn House in Boettcherstrasse� in which seven brothers dig a spring because they�re too lazy to fetch water from the well build a dyke around their house because they�re too lazy to fend off flood pave a road because they�d rather not dig their wagon out of the mud � in general perform any number of laborious feats so that they can enjoy their laziness in comfort. Some rather brittle newspapers a love letter in which a very particular engagement ring is demanded a few stray postcards and photographs and manuscript see below are laid-in at the rear. Manuscript: 5 folded leaves comprising 17 pages. Hastily records a series of charms spells superstitions and omens � undated not offering a location. �If you see leaves and dust suddenly rise in a little whorl wind bless yourself and leave there is �a passage� there i e the fairies are going by�� hardcover
