The Macro Economy Today
<p>Clear. Current. Connected to Today’s Student. Schiller <em><strong>The Macro Economy Today</strong></em><strong> 13e</strong> is noted for three great strengths: readability policy orientation and pedagogy. The accessible writing style engages students and brings some of the excitement of domestic and global economic news into the classroom. Schiller emphasizes how policymakers must choose between government intervention and market reliance to resolve the core issues of <strong>what how and for whom</strong> to produce. This strategic choice is highlighted throughout the full range of micro macro and international issues and every chapter ends with a policy issue that emphasizes the markets vs. government dilemma. The authors teach economics in a relevant context filling chapters with the <em>real</em> facts and applications of economic life. Schiller is also the only principles text that presents all macro theory in the single consistent context of the AS/AD framework.</p><p>Connect is the only integrated learning system that empowers students by continuously adapting to deliver precisely what they need when they need it and how they need it so that your class time is more engaging and effective.</p> McGraw Hill Higher Education paperback

Schiller Lawrence Mailer Norman
Into the Mirror: The Life of Master Spy Robert P. Hanssen
<p>New York: HarperCollins Publishers Inc. 2002. First Edition First Printing. SIGNED by Lawrence Schiller on the title page under which the word "and" has been written and then marked through. Based on research and interviews by Lawrence Schiller and Norman Mailer the book presents a psychological portrait of FBI agent Robert P. Hanssen who sold classified information to the KGB and its successor organization over more than 20 years. Hanssen was captured in 2001 and is serving multiple life sentences in a Colorado prison. The book is written as a novel with imagined dialogue. Schiller and Mailer were unable to interview Hanssen who was already a guest of U.S. taxpayers. Nonetheless it's a fascinating attempt to get into the mind of an American traitor especially through the device of having Hanssen talk to himself while looking at a mirror. 8vo. xv 317 pages. Near Fine with a minuscule mark to the upper board's right edge and a bump to its lower right corner in a Fine dust jacket. SCARCE signed. <br /><br />The backstory to this book is unusual and a bit convoluted. In Schiller's Author's Note he says he asked Mailer to write a screenplay for a CBS Television miniseries that Schiller would produce and direct. As Mailer was finishing the first draft of the screenplay Schiller decided to write the present book using Mailer's draft as the foundation. Schiller says he supplemented Mailer's draft with his own research. The book appeared in 2002 as did the series on CBS. The series starred William Hurt as Hanssen Mary-Louise Parker as his wife Peter Boyle as his father and David Strathairn as his best friend.</p><p>In addition to this book Schiller and Mailer also collaborated on "The Executioner's Song" and "Oswald's Tale."</p> HarperCollins Publishers Inc.

How to Think about Information
U.S.A.: University of Illinois Press 2006. Minor edge and corner wear to the dj; lightly scuffed and scratched; corners are gently bumped and rubbed; some light shelf wear; ex-library with the usual library markings; overall a nice used copy! Blue cloth with gilt lettering on the spine. 267 historical and educational pages! "It s common wisdom that the U.S. economy has continued to thrive despite the loss of industry because of the booming information sector with high-paying jobs for everything from wireless networks to video games. We are told we live in the Information Age in which communications networks and media and information services drive the larger economy. While the Information Age may have looked sunny in the beginning as it has developed it looks increasingly ominous: its economy and benefits grow more and more centralized-and in the United States it has become less and less subject to democratic oversight. Companies around the world have identified the value of information and are now seeking to control its production transmission and consumption. In How to Think about Information Dan Schiller explores the ways information has been increasingly commodified as a result and how it both resembles and differs from other commodities. Through a linked series of theoretical historical and contemporary studies Schiller reveals this commodification as both dynamic and expansionary but also deeply conflicted and uncertain. He examines the transformative political and economic changes occurring throughout the informational realm and analyzes key dimensions of the process including the build-up of new technological platforms the growth of a transnationalizing culture industry and the role played by China as it reinserts itself into an informationalized capitalism.". First Edition. Blue Cloth. Good/Good. 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall. Ex-Library. University of Illinois Press Hardcover
