Quattro milioni.
in-16, pp. 300, broch. edit. figurata, in antiporta vignetta con ritratto dell'autrice, frontespizio entro graziosa cornice, a colori, testatine, capilettera e finalini. Edizione originale. Buon esemplare, a fogli chiusi (dorso restaurato, legatura debole).. .

J CARSON LITTLE aka THE MOTORCYCLE MAN
1936 ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT DIARY DETAILING ONE YOUNG MAN'S DEVOTION TO ALL THINGS HARLEY-DAVIDSON HANDWRITTEN BY 'THE MOTORCYCLE MAN'
LYNCHBURG VIRGINIA VA THOMASVILLE NORTH CAROLINA. Good. 1936. On offer is a super fascinating manuscript relic of early Harley-Davidson motorcycle history being a 1936 original diary handwritten by the 22 year old J. Carson Little as evidenced by his personal address label "J. Carson Little "The Motorcycle Man" 3124 Campbell Av. Lynchburg VA 24501." There's another address inside that shows him living at Thomasville North Carolina. He was known as "The Motorcycle Man" because of his renown as a Harley Davidson dealer which he did for over 47 years. Only 22 years old at the writing the entire diary reflects whole life being centered around Harley-Davidson motorcycles. One online site dedicated to him provides: "J. Carson Little was the Harley dealer in Lynchburg Virginia for many many years
.his incredible collection of Harley literature he had saved throughout the years. His two car garage has a fully finished upstairs room that was a Harley Museum. We learn that Mr Little used to hand out flyers regarding a noted trip to the Rose Bowl. "Hello. The following is a brief description of why I am in your town. "In 1938 Carson and a buddy rode Carson's brand new 1938 Harley from Thomasville North Carolina to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena California and home again. He sold the bike in 1948 but started looking for it in 1958. It had passed through 13 owners but on the 20th anniversary of his 1938 trip he found it again. Carson and his son rode back to the Rose Bowl in 1963 the 25th anniversary of his original trip. Of course he rode the same motorcycle as he had done in 1938. He then decided to keep going back every five years "just to keep in practice". 1968 - 30th anniversary. 1973 - 35th. 1978 - 40th. 1983 - 45th and once more in 1988 for the 50th Anniversary. Same man - same motorcycle - same trip J. Carson Little "The Motorcycle Man""Dave Hennessey. The diary is full. Here are some snippets: 1936 "I fixed up my 1925 Harley Davidson. Took a ride snow on the ground
.C. L. Tiddler of the State Highway Patrol was killed in front of Rajon Mill about 4:45 P.M

J G BEILBY
1942 - 1943 TWO 2 ORIGINAL HANDWRITTEN MANUSCRIPT JOURNALS THAT SHOW TWO INTERESTING AND DIFFERENT VIEWS OF A LIFE LIVED ONE CIVILIAN ONE MILITARY BY AN AUSTRALIAN PILOT IN CANADA
ALBERTA CANADA BRISBANE AUSTRALIA RCAF TRAINING. Good. 1942. On offer are two 2 books used by J.G. Beilby of Brisbane Australia while on duty in Alberta Canada training with the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War 2. Beilby is a pilot and sergeant with the Royal Australian Air Force. The first a book entitled My Cruise with R.A.A.F is inscribed To johny Xmas 1942 Nil Desperandum. From Bill. The book obtained by Beilby in Australia lists the many cities through which Beilby travelled through. From Panama through the U.S. to Canada Scotland and finally England ending in a listing written Whitley Bay Commando. The book is over 100 pages in length but there is writing on only the first 6 pages. Beilby sails out of Brisbane Australia on June 22nd 1942 on the S.S. President Cleveland going towards Norfolk Virginia. The ship goes to Tahiti Panama Cristobal Balboa Panama Santiago di Cuba Key West finally landing in Norfolk. From Norfolk Bielby goes to Philadelphia Washington New York up to Winnipeg Calgary and then Vancouver. On the return journey Beilby leaves on the famous S.S. Queen Elizabeth operated by the Cunard line from Halifax Nova Scotia on March 10th 1943 stopping in Boston and New York before going across the Atlantic to Bournemouth London Newcastle and Whitley Bay in England. The other book smaller and more compact has a front title of Royal Canadian Air Force Diary. In this book other Beilby has written addresses and phone numbers. Near the end of the book there are pages filled with dates for Anniversariesand Birthdays of friends and family as well as a page titled Name Suggestions implying Beilbys girlfriend or wife was pregnant during his time in the RCAF service. The Cash Accounts section near the end of the book also shows over 10 war bonds bought by Beilby totalling $1250 as well as the year they fully mature. There is also a page of living expenses for the month of November that include purchases of a Jacket - $53.00 Mothers gift - $4.00 Prescriptions - $8.50 and man others. The most interesting part of the book though is the first 145 pages taken up by a tremendous amount of scientific and military information about flight. The foreword says that in COLLINS AERO DIARY the Publishers have constructed from technical literature and practical data a useful compendium on the subject of Flight. This literature and data contains everything from conversion tables to flight dynamics to Morse code semaphore color pages of maps of other countries and a tremendous amount more. The two books together produce an interesting document of a soldier in the 2nd World War. Background: John George Beilby was born in 1920 in Brisbane Australia. He was a Sergeant and pilot in Unit 21 of the Operational Training RAF during the War. He mostly likely died on April 24 1944. Flying a Wellington LN 878 of No 21 Operational Training Unit RAF he took took off from RAF Station Moreton-in-Marsh Gloucestershire on a day cross country exercise on 24 April 1944. The last known position of the aircraft was a fix which placed them 80 miles east of Hull. The aircraft failed to return to base after the exercise. Subsequent reports show that the Wireless Operator had contacted numerous stations during the trip and was well up to his job. He would have taken correct action in distress had he had time. There was no evidence to show how the aircraft became lost. From the way the plot faded suddenly there is a strong possibility that it had been shot down by enemy fighters. Subsequent searches found no trace of the missing aircraft or crew. Sgt J.G.Beilby Pilot.Following post war enquiries and investigations it was recorded in 1949 that the missing crew had lost their lives at sea.; Manuscript; 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall; KEYWORDS: HISTORY OF J.G. MARINE BASE QUANTICO GUADALCANAL BETHLEHEM STEEL. Good. 1942. On offer are a pair of two 2 daires that belonged to U.S. Marine Corps Captain late Major J. H. Storer. The first diary covers the years 1942 to 1944 and the second is a five-year diary covering the years 1945 to 1949. The first diary is technically supposed to be used for only one year however Storar uses single dates for entries of any or all of the years 1942 1943 and 1944. He differentiates this through the use of different color pens. The code to this is located on the front cover page: Sept. 1942 to Sept. 1943 pencil; Sept. 1943 to Sept. 1944 red ink; Sept. 1944 to black ink. It is fairly common in the months past September for all three years to appear on a single date entry. For the most part his entries in the first year of dairying are simple dealing with his day-to-day activities and news about the soldiers in his company. He also is a member of the National Sojourners an American patriotic organization of Freemasons and there are occasional entries about meetings of this group. The diary entries begin on September 7th 1942. Monday - Physical final exam for Marine Corp. Passed OK. To Statler Hotel Buffalo for Final dinner.; September 9 1942. Arrived Quantico 8:30 AM. For much of the year he is stationed between the Quantico Marine Base and Guadalcanal. This makes me believe he is part of the 1st Marine Division as they were the primary Marine division to take part in the Guadalcanal Campaign. January 16 1943. Inspected Company in AM and worked in Code Room in PD.; To Capt. McKee in P.M. Played 3 sets of Tennis in PM with Rus. Lt. John Ross Lt. Curt Norton transfer. He recommends men for promotion serves on guard duty often participates on a General Court Martial referred to often just as G.C.M. conducts a number of internal investigations and participates in a number of court martials and does a number of other jobs as a captain then major of the E company. He does not participate in the invasion of Europe on June 6 1944 but he does write INVASION on the date. On June 8th he is promoted to Major.: March 23 1944. Thrus. Dot to Wash. Storar U.S.M.C. Quantico Va. Classification. Post Intelligence 2162; Port Operations 9307. The entries are very similar to the previous book. Mostly day-to-day activities and occasional remarks about his troops or fellow officers. March 12 1945. Appointed to Board of Investigation with Lt. Shissen Dr. Phillips. In 1946 Storar is honorably discharged from the Marine Corps and begins working for Bethlehem Steel in Johnstown Pennsylvania. He is assigned to the Car Shop making train cars. In the years he works there there are may strikes and worker disputes at the plant. It seems as if Storar strongly supports and participates in them. He often notes the days that the shop is closed because of the strike. It seems he participates strongly in the union meetings between the workers and management. Excerpts: September 6 1946. Warned management about Strike threats.; May 16 1947. Pay check 299.50 for 2 weeks. Need raise 53.00 per month. Told new agreement to Supervisor.; December 7 1947. Hemorrhage in A.M.
