pp. 44 + Large glossy print frontis photograph of 13 men at their 25th reunion. 8vo. 220 mm. Disbound. Original printed front wrap present. The owner of this scarce pamphlet was Thomas S. McClelland, a prominent lawyer in Chicago. Born in PA, he graduated Williams in 1864, and almost immediately joined the Union Army. Called "Honest Tom" by his classmastes, he was over 6' tall "straight as an Indian, and almost as swarthy." He missed the reunion, and does not appear in the photograph. Those that do are identified on p. 4. In the photo they appear to be a substanial and quietly prosperous group. Most are dressed in frock coats, holding their top hats and bowlers. Williams College is a private liberal arts college located in Williamstown, MA. It was established in 1793 with funds from the estate of Ephraim Williams, and was originally open only to men. It is said that he developed a "quintessentially American, and specially Californian, approach to modern photography" because of his focus on the people and places of the American West. In 1937 Weston was the first photographer to receive a Guggenheim Fellowship, and over the next two years he produced nearly 1,400 negatives using his 8 x 10 view camera. Some of his most famous photographs were taken of the trees and rocks at Point Lobos, California, near where he lived for many years. W101

He sold Putnam's the idea of putting out a brief 'Little Journey' biographical sketch on a monthly basis. Later, when he established his own print shop, he took over the whole project. He also p rint ed and published two national opinion magazines, the 'Fra' and the 'Philistine'. He was also responsible for the famed 'A Message to Garcia'. James Quinter (1816-1888) joined the German Baptist Brethren Church in 1833, was elected to the ministry in 1838, and ordained an elder in 1856. He was educated at the boarding school, West Bradford, PA and taught school in Montgomery County, PA (1833-1842); and in Fayette County, PA (1842-1856). He served as principal of New Vienna (Ohio) Academy (1861-1864); Huntingdon Normal School; Brethren's Normal College; and Juniata College (1879-1888). He was one of the first Brethren to hold protracted evangelistic meetings. In 1856 he moved to Poland, Ohio to become Assistant Editor of the Gospel Visitor. He soon became co-editor and in 1866 purchased a half share in the publication. In 1873 he became sole owner of the Gospel Visitor and purchased the Christian Family Companion and Gospel Visitor. In 1876 it was renamed the Primitive Christian. In 1877 it was merged with the Pilgrim and Quinter moved to Huntingdon, where he continued as editor and became a senior member of the publishing firm, Quinter and Brumbaugh Brothers. Scarce. L20
