Includes tissued frontis portrait. Contains a German and a Hebrew section. Vol. 3 (has title Sefer LDovid Tsvi). Particularly important because of two articles: one by Carlebach on why women should cover their hair (Haarverhullung des judischen Weibes); the other is on the first publication anywhere of Maimonides commentary on Rosch Haschanah (Bamberger, S: Die bisher unedierten Teile von Maimonides Mischnah-Commentar zu Rosch Haschanah). All articles are separately paged in roman numerals, with the continuous paging at foot of page. "Bibliographie der schriften und aufsätze des dr. D. Hoffmann, von rabbiner dr. L. Fischer" on pages [vii]-xxiv. The German Encyclopaedia Judaica (vol VIII, 162) notes, that Hoffmann (1843-1921) was a Talmud- und Bibelforscher. Zum 70. Geburtstage H. S gaben seine Freunde und Schüler eine Festschrift heraus (1914). See also the Jüdisches Lexikon (vol. II, 1646): 1873 Dozent für Talmud, Ritualkodizes und Pentateuchexegese in dem von Esriel Hildesheimer neu begründeten Rabbinerseminar zu Berlin. Dort dozierte er 48 Jahre lang und hatte den größten Teil der jetzt amtierenden gesetzestreuen deutschen Rabb. Zu Schülern. Nach Hildesheimers Tode wurde er Rektor des Seminars. H. War einer der besten Kenner des Talmuds und der halachischen Midraschlit. Seiner Zeit, wurde als halachische Autorität, auch im Kampfe gegen die Reformbewegung und gegen den Antisemitismus, vielfach angerufen und war ferner der erste offenbarungsgläubige J., der es unternahm, die Graf-Wellhausensche Bibelkritik mit Mitteln der Wissenschaft zu wiederlegen. This catalog was prepared to accompany the exhibition at Waldemarsrudde, Stockholm during the late summer and fall of 2000. Organized by Ingrid Ehrhardt and Simon Reynolds. The exhibition also travelled to Birmingham, England and Frankfurt, Germany. In English the title of the exhibition is: 'Kingdom of the Soul - Symbolist Art in Germany, 1870 - 1920'. Essays by a dozen art historians on different aspects of the German Symbolist art movement. The largest section concerns painting, but also an extensive section on sculpture. Briefer reviews of graphic arts and book design and fine bindings. Bibliography. Exhibition checklist has over 195 works (some numbers have a, b, c etc. parts). In 4. Dim. 27x21 cm. Pp. 8. Numero del 13 Maggio 1854 de L'Album di Roma, una rivista di letteratura, arte, viaggi e archeologia. All'interno è presente un incisione del Mar Baltico (purtroppo strappata orizzontalmente) e di Hoffmann. All'interno presenti alcuni articoli: viaggio intorno al Baltico; Hoffmann; sunto storico della città di Cento (incompleto, inizia in un altro numero). In buone condizioni. Brossura editoriale in buone condizioni generali con lievi usure al margine sinistro. Legatura quasi assente. All'interno le pagine si presentano in buone condizioni con fioriture, margini usurati. Strappo orizzontale a pag. 91 con parziale perdita di testo. Interesting number of the 13th of May 1854 of the L'Album di Roma, a magazine of litterature, art, voyages and archeology. Inside there is a beautiful engraving representing the Baltico Sea (unfortunately with an horizontal tear) and of Hoffmann. Inside different articles: voyage around Baltico sea; Hoffmann; histroical resuming of the city of Cento (uncomplete, it begins in another number). In good conditions Editorial cover in good general conditions slightly worn in the left edges. Binding is almost absent. Inside pages are in good conditions with foxings, worn edges. Horizontal tear in page 92 with partial loss of text.
