‎* Jean-Claude Forest (* 11. September 1930 in Le Perreux-sur-Marne bei Paris; ? 30. Dezember 1998) war ein französischer Comiczeichner. Jean-Claude Forest studierte an der École des Arts et Métiers in Paris und konnte bereits 1949 während des Studiums seinen ersten Comic, Flèche Noire, eine Adaption von Robert Louis Stevensons Der schwarze Pfeil, veröffentlichen. Ab 1952 zeichnete er für das Comicmagazin Vaillant, gestaltete Taschenbuchumschläge im Science-Fiction-Bereich und veröffentlichte seine ersten freizügigen Comics in der Tageszeitung France-Soir. International erfolgreich wurde Forest mit seiner Serie Barbarella, die zunächst in Episodenform ab 1962 im V Magazin erschien. Barbarella, eine Science-Fiction-Heldin, war attraktiv, sexuell aktiv und sehr freizügig. Sie setzte sich damit stark von den zu der Zeit überwiegend auf jüngeres Publikum ausgerichtete Comicpublikationen in Frankreich ab. 1964 erschien ein Album mit den ersten acht Episoden, das wegen seiner erotischen Darstellungen zunächst auf heftigen Widerstand stieß und vorübergehend verboten wurde. Durch den öffentlichen Aufruhr und das Verbot wurde das Interesse an dem Comic jedoch immer größer, so dass 1966 und 1968 Neuauflagen erschienen, Übersetzungen in anderen Ländern (u. a. Deutschland und England) folgten und der Comic mit Jane Fonda in der Titelrolle 1968 verfilmt wurde, was der Comic-Vorlage einen weiteren Popularitätsschub gab. Forest gestaltete auch das Setdesign der Verfilmung und passte für eine weitere Neuauflage des Barbarella-Albums das Aussehen seiner Titelheldin Jane Fonda an[4]. In den Jahren 1974, 1977 und 1982 erschien je ein weiteres Album mit neuen Barbarella-Geschichten Im Zuge seines Erfolgs mit Barbarella wurde er erster Chefredakteur des 1964 von Daniel Filipacchi neu gegründeten Comicmagazins Chouchou, in dem er mit seiner Reihe Bébé Cyanure die Idee der jugendlichen Heldin in der Zukunft fortführte. Gaijinjoe bezeichnet diese Serie als ?kleine Schwester von Barbarella? und merkt an, dass sie zusammen mit dem Magazin (letzteres nach 14 Ausgaben) eingestellt wurde. 1971 begann Forest eine neue Serie mit dem Titel Hypocrite, die zunächst in France-Soir und ab 1972 im Magazin Pilote erschien. Diese und folgende Serien konnten aber an den Erfolg von Barbarella nicht anknüpfen und er betätigte sich in den folgenden Jahren überwiegend als Autor für andere Zeichner. Mit Jacques Tardi schuf er 1978 den Comic-Roman Ici Même. Er schrieb die Story für Die Schiffbrüchigen der Zeit (Zeichner Paul Gillon) und arbeitete mit Max Cabanes. Ab 1980 schrieb er für das Magazin (à suivre). Als Nachdruck aus diesem Magazin erschien 1984 mit Enfants c?est l?Hydragon qui passe das letzte Album, das Forest nicht nur textete, sondern auch zeichnete. 1986 wurde er Chefredakteur für die Kinderzeitschriften im Verlag Bayard-Presse. Die französische Post ehrte ihn 1989 mit einer Briefmarke. Mit dem One-Shot Il faut y croire pour le voir, gezeichnet von Alain Bignon, erschien 1996 das letzte Album von Forest (Quelle Wikipedia)‎

The third and final volume of lesbian writing legend Forrest's science fiction-fantasy trilogy that began in 1984 with the highly-praised "Daughters of a Coral Dawn" an exodus story of 4000 22nd century women who escaped a male-dominated tyrannical Earth to colonize the planet Maternas. Forrest followed with a second novel "Daughters of an Amber Noon" in 2002 which described the fate of the women who remained on Earth. The work was described as "a tour de force" by one reviewer. This third book is set on Maternas some 55 years later and describes the conflict between the original settlers and the first generation of Maternas-born women the first in the history of humanity with a legacy of ultimate freedom with a standard of conduct that has created a schism between older and younger generations. It is also a novel with considerable sexual content. First Printing First Edition. About 5 3/4 x 8 1/2 inches 197 pages including a brief author's biographical note. Black paper-covered boards with gold lettering on spine. The dustjacket shows a photographic design of sky clouds and distant hills in varying shades of green with a closer rocky landscape in shadow. Lettering is in green and white on front cover and spine with a single blurb for "Daughters of an Amber Noon" on the back panel. The dj's front flap describes the trilogy; the back flap is blank. There is no price or printing indicator on the jacket or the book. The copyright page notes the copyright in 2005 by Forrest followed by "Published by Alyson Books" with no date of issue. There is a single tiny dogearred page 117-118 o/w boards and text are clean complete and unmarked; binding tight and square not remaindered. The dustjacket shows very minimal surface and edgewear no tears no creasing or chipping no clipped corners. This copy appears to be an advance review or proof copy printed and bound before final details such as price were determined. In any case a hardcover copy is a rarity. An internet search at the time of this writing revealed only paperback copies of this 2005 edition or a later 2014 issue. Its scarcity alone should find it a place in a collection of Forrest's work along with the classic "Curious Wine" and the Kate Delafield mysteries. <br/> <br/> Alyson Books hardcover‎

New material in this edition includes details of the identity of some of the pseudononymous authors, as well as name and title indexes missing from the original edition --- Reginald Ashley Caton (1897?1971) was an English publisher. He appears as a literary character, especially in novels by Kingsley Amis. In 1924 he founded the Fortune Press in London, initially as a small press specialising in gay erotica. Such was his admiration for the Nonesuch Press?s 1924 translation of Plato?s Symposium, however, that he published an almost exact copy of it. Nonesuch immediately threatened legal action, calling Caton and the Fortune Press ?thieves and pirates?. In 1934 Caton was prosecuted for obscene libel, found guilty and ordered to pulp the offending books, although these editions could still be found on sale in the 1970s. Some of his titles have been described as mild homosexual porn and even "rank sodomy". It has even been suggested that Fortune Press was the closest thing that Britain had to a gay publishing house, until the establishment of the Gay Men's Press in the 1970s. But the main result of the obscenity trial was a swift shift in focus from porn to poetry. Caton himself referred to the trial as "no joke". In the end, according to the standard bibliography, Caton had published 600 books, from his publishing office at 21 Belgrave Road in London, perhaps outgrowing the adjective 'small'. Many of these are of literary interest, produced by the circumstance that paper was in short supply as soon as World War II started; and Fortune Press had hoarded stocks. Much of the regular magazine publishing of poetry, in particular, had to shut down. Caton is celebrated for obtaining the rights to Dylan Thomas's 18 Poems, which he published in 1934, with repercussions for the poet. During the war years he first rejected Philip Larkin's first novel Jill (for obscenity), but finally published it in 1946, as he did his poetry collection, The North Ship. No manuscript version of Jill has survived. Caton also published, for example, Nicholas Moore, and Wrenne Jarman. Experts have concluded that there was no literary, rather than business, consistency. In 1951 he published Bryan Magee's first book, an anthology of poems entitled Crucifixion and Other Poems. The Fortune Press was sold to Leonard Holdsworth, of The Charles Skilton Publishing Group.
