La connessione della Birmania (oggi chiamata Myanmar) con George Orwell non è metaforica, ma profonda e reale. In un intrepido diario di viaggio dal taglio politico e biografico, Emma Larkin guida il lettore alla scoperta dei luoghi dove Orwell ha vissuto e lavorato come agente della polizia imperiale britannica, vivendo esperienze che condizionarono profondamente la sua visione del mondo. Alla scomparsa di Orwell, il romanzo in stesura trovato sulla sua scrivania era ambientato in Birmania. Attraversando Mandalay e Yangon, le isolate aree meridionali del Delta dell'Irrawaddy e le montagne del nord dove gli inglesi andavano in villeggiatura per sfuggire al caldo delle pianure, l'autrice ritrae con immagini vivide un Paese appassionante e struggente. La pandemia mondiale, l'infopandemia, lo stato d'emergenza, il controllo tecnologico e la supposta dittatura sanitaria hanno riportato alla ribalta la distopia orwelliana che annunciava il dominio del Grande Fratello. L'autore va controcorrente nell'interpretazione del dispotismo globale che non considera una dittatura che minaccia la democrazia, bensì la quintessenza della democrazia che intende spiritualmente, filosoficamente e politicamente come tirannide. Rilegge le profezie emerse dal disincanto del radicalismo democratico e le raffronta con lo sguardo di Nietzsche, Guénon, Evola e Jünger indicando la mentalità che ritiene giusta per annullare l'angoscia del domani e scacciare i fantasmi che, a suo avviso, sono il prodotto della nostra psiche non più ordinata, appunto democratizzata, che partorisce mostri distopici, e disintegrazione delle coscienze e, quindi, della società e della politica. Un pensiero tragico ma tutt'altro che disfattista.

Dos resté carré très, très légèrement insolé. Plats et intérieur frais. Traduit de l'anglais par Amélie Audiberti. Mention fictive d'édition. Il n'existe qu'un seul tirage en date du 2ème trimestre - Mai 1950. Superbe état général de cette rarissime édition originale du chef-d'oeuvre de l'auteur.Amélie Audiberti, épouse de l'écrivain et dramaturge Jacques Audiberti, traductrice française réputée, elle est principalement connue pour être à l'origine de cette première traduction du roman 1984 de George Orwell où elle y invente plusieurs néologismes dont certains sont passés dans le langage courant comme la " Novlangue ". Le roman adapté et réalisé par Michael Radford en 1984, fut diffusé en salles la même année. On trouvait dans les rôles principaux, entre autres : John Hurt, Richard Burton, Suzanna Hamilton, Cyril Cusack et Bob Flag ( Big Brother ). La musique fut comosé en partie par le groupe Eurythmics, dont la chanson " Sexcrime " ( Nineteen Eighty-Four ), qui ne figurait que sur l'album et non dans le film, mais qui servait de musique de fond aux bandes-annonces de l'époque.
