A2 et A1 du second tome inversés).‎

‎Très belle édition de ce recueil, cet exemplaire rare est du premier tirage sur vergé de Hollande. Il est illustré d'un titre-frontispice sans mention d'éditeur ou de date et de 24 gravures avant les numéros de Marillier gravées par Delaunay, de Ghendt, Le Gouaz, Ponce, Lebeau, Gaucher et Née, certaines datées 1774 et 1775. Arnaud Berquin était un auteur et journaliste français, collaborateur du Mercure de France et du Moniteur universel. Bien qu'il soit plus reconnu pour son activité de pédagogue et les ouvrages qu'il publia sur le sujet, ses Idylles et plus tard ses Romances connurent le succès à l'époque de leur parution. Elles sont principalement inspirées de l'oeuvre de Salomon Gessner : l'auteur admet dans sa préface avoir repris des sujets traités par le poète suisse pour 6 (sur 12) de ses Idylles. L'idylle intitulée Grâces est imitée d'un pièce de l'auteur danois de langue allemande Gerstenberg et celle du Pêcheur d'une barcarolle italienne. Superbe exemplaire dans une magnifique reliure de maroquin doublée signée par Canape et Corriez. Ex-libris doré de Juan Hernandez à la première doublure. Ex-libris manuscrit au titre du 2nd tome. Édition originale de ce célèbre recueil poétique, illustré d'un titre-frontispice dessiné et gravé par Marillier et de 24 figures hors-textes par le-même « d'une grâce ravissante, [...] gravées très finement par Gaucher, de Ghendt, Le Gouaz, Delaunay, Lebeau, Masquelier, Née et Ponce », datées pour certaines de 1774 ou 1775. Exemplaire de premier tirage sur grand papier de Hollande, avec les figures avant les numéros et avec le frontispice vierge de toute mention d'éditeur (ou d'édition) et de toute date, état le plus recherché. Arnaud Berquin, (Bordeaux,1749 - Paris,1791), écrivain, dramaturge et pédagogue, débuta par deux recueils poétiques, les Idylles et les Romances. Il se spécialisa ensuite dans la littérature pour la jeunesse. Ses livres pour enfants, dont son célèbre Ami des enfants, jouirent d'une grande popularité et furent très souvent réimprimés tout au long du XIXe siècle et traduits, notamment en allemand par la princesse Alexandra de Bavière. Les exemplaires en maroquin ancien sont rares. Bibliographie : Cohen-de Ricci 139-140. pâle mouillure sur le plat supérieur, quelques traces au plat inférieur, première garde en partie collée, papier légèrement roussi dans les marges, pâle mouillure angulaire sur les tout derniers feuillets.‎

A collection of poems from an edition of 400 copies 25 of which were numbered and signed by Berrigan plus 3 hors commerce. Although Berrigan signed this copy it was not actually one of the 25 signed and numbered copies. With a hand-colored cover as issued by Rochelle Kraut. An attractive collection of poems by one of the key members of the New York School. SCARCE SIGNED. <br /><br />This book was published by Frontward Books which was started by Bob Rosenthal and Rochelle Kraut. According to Rosenthal Berrigan taught him how to use a mimeograph machine when Berrigan was teaching at Northwestern and Rosenthal was attending his classes. "In all the press published nine mimeographed books noteworthy for their often hand-colored covers with drawings by Rochelle Kraut" according to Steven Clay and Rodney Phillips "A Secret Location on the Lower East Side" pages 218-219. Additionally signed in full on the title page; Berrigan has crossed out his name as printed on the page and signed with his own signature. A nice association from Berrigan's days in Chicago. This is the wrappers edition featuring a cover and drawings by George Schneeman. There were two other simultaneous issues--a hardcover trade edition and a signed limited edition. No priority. See Aaron Fischer Ted Berrigan: An Annotated Checklist page 41. Small 4to 9 7/8 x 6 1/2 inches / 245 x 165 mm 106 pages in printed wrappers. Bump to one corner edge wear a bit of soiling to the top edge and fore edge and some very light toning to the pages. Slight lean. Interior clean and bright. Overall a Very Good copy. INSCRIBED on the front free end paper: "Ted Berrigan / For Ken Anne / in NYC / 1981." Berrigan has also drawn a heart with the number 500 in it. The recipients were Ken and Ann Mikolowski founders of the Alternative Press. For many years the Alternative Press published broadsides and other printed material by subscription including poems by Berrigan. A nice association. Cover art and frontispiece drawing of Berrigan by George Schneeman. This is from an edition of 1000 copies 26 of which were signed by both Berrigan and Schneeman. A warm inscription to publishers Ann and Ken Mikolowski; Berrigan was a regular contributor to the couple's Alternative Press publications. Over three decades the Mikolowskis published a variety of poets writers and artists; these works were often stuffed into manila envelopes and sent to subscribers. Our copy is the first printing of the first trade edition of Berrigan's most famous work. It follows the rare 1964 mimeographed version published by Lorenz and Ellen Gude. Grove published this edition in 1967 although the only date present is the 1964 copyright. See Aaron Fischer "Ted Berrigan An Annotated Checklist" page 29. A nice association from Berrigan's days in Chicago.</p><p>This is the wrappers edition featuring a cover and drawings by George Schneeman. There were two other simultaneous issues--a hardcover trade edition and a signed limited edition. No priority. See Aaron Fischer Ted Berrigan: An Annotated Checklist page 41.</p><p>CONDITION: Bump to one corner edge wear a bit of soiling to the top edge and fore edge and some very light toning to the pages. Slight lean.
