La pensée universelle 1974 80 pages 13 5x18 5cm. 1974. broché. 80 pages. On me demande une sorte de biographie je ne trouve rien à dire. Un auteur confirmé en possède une sans doute. Je ne suis pas un auteur confirmé. Seulement un inconnu. Pour tout vous dire je suis parisien de naissance né en 1923 voici donc longtemps. Je m'adonne à la photographie à la fois par vice et par profession. Ce que j'ai écrit hormis ce recueil est impubliable parce que trop abstrait un mélange ~e Nerval et de Céline teinté de Georges Bataille et de Fulcanelli. Incompréhensible. Peut-être un jour y verrai-je plus clair. Pour l'instant j'habite la douce vallée de la Charente dont la lumière fine et changeante rappelle la Toscane. Et j'y suis bien. La poésie ne se vend pratiquement plus. C'est pourquoi j'écris de la poésie. La poésie ne se lit pratiquement plus. c'est pourquoi il faut en imprimer. Toujours. La poésie n'est pas à vendre la poésie n'est pas à lire. Elle est à dire. - A DIRE - Et ce n'est pas autrement qu'elle doit être. Elle est à dire pour rien. Un recueil de poèmes est semblable à un cahier de musique comme une partition: la notation écrite par l'auteur pour son pour ses interprètes. Tout est noté là. mais rien n'est dit encore. Il manque le médium de la voix. De la voix humaine. Que la poésie porte la parole à ceux qui vivent aujourd'hui et peut-être à ceux qui vivront demain - Dans le NOIR - pour qu'une toute petite lueur persiste et s'obstine à briller. A briller dans ce noir épais qui nous enserre comme un linceul. Le mot n'est rien le Verbe est tout. Tentons seulement de nous en souvenir. Et la poésie naîtra magique et généreuse lorsque le silence sera retombé

Cornelius Weygandt (1871-1957) was employed as journalist for the Philadelphia Record and the Philadelphia Evening Telegraph; and later as Professor of English at the University of Pennsylvania.
