Oltre 50 lavori su carta e una selezione di libri d'artista costituivano il nucleo della mostra di Irma Blank.Nelle sue opere l'artista tedesca prende le mosse dalla scrittura per rinunciare, paradossalmente, alla parola. Ciò che ne risulta sono scritture fittizie, che della scrittura conservano solo il gesto e formano blocchi di testo e capitoli come nelle pagine di libri e giornali. La tendenza alla meditazione, tipica del suo lavoro, è rafforzata dall'uso intenso del colore blu. La mostra metteva in relazione il lavoro dell'artista tedesca con la poesia visiva degli anni '60 e '70, allora attuale, ma aggiunge anche un elemento nuovo. Dalla produzione di Blank emergono infatti punti di contatto con la Minimal art e l'arte concettuale, con artiste e artisti che nell'astrazione hanno trovato un linguaggio alternativo e molto personale, come Agnes Martin, Hanne Darboven, Roman Opalka. Irma Blank (Celle, Germania, 1934, vive e lavora a Milano) pratica la scrittura come strumento di conoscenzaintuitive e riduce i segni linguistici a "Urzeichen", segni primordiali. In oltre quarant'anni di attività, ha esposto le sue opere in musei, gallerie e rassegne internazionali come Documenta di Kassel (1977), la Biennale di venezia (1978, 2017), Quadriennale di Roma (2005), Centre Pompidou di Parigi (2010), Kunsthaus Hamburg (2016), MAMbo Bologna (2016).

Nella varietà dei modi dell'approccio critico (ricostruzione genetica, analisi lessicale, lettura del testo ecc.) permangono identiche in questa raccolta le linee direttive che caratterizzano i saggi leopardiani di Blasucci: l'attenzione alla concreta organizzazione tematico-linguistica dei testi; l'individuazione del nucleo conoscitivo che è al fondo di ciascuno di essi. Quest'ultimo assunto, evidente nell'esame dei testi satirici ("Tra ideologia e satira" è il titolo della seconda sezione di questo volume), è non meno presente, anche se meno isolabile dall'analisi poetica, nell'esame dei testi più propriamente lirici ("Dalla parte dei Canti"), per i quali l'autore preferisce parlare appunto di una "carica conoscitiva", più che, convenzionalmente, di un "contenuto di pensiero".

Con questo nuovo libro si arricchisce di decisivi capitoli il discorso critico di Blasucci sull'opera leopardiana, iniziato più di trent'anni fa con l'ormai classico "Leopardi e i segnali dell'infinito". Al centro di queste ultime ricerche si pone la vicenda interna dell'«idillio», che dai progetti in terza persona ispirati al modello di Teocrito approda ai memorabili componimenti in prima persona, «esprimenti situazioni, affezioni, avventure storiche del mio animo» (L'infinito, Alla luna, La sera del dì di festa). Completano il volume altri approfondimenti (Leopardi e Petrarca, la posizione dei Canti nello spazio mentale del loro autore), nonché alcune incursioni nel Leopardi prosatore {Zibaldone, Epistolario). Infine sono tratteggiati i ritratti critici di cinque insigni maestri degli studi leopardiani.
