Cullen saw Negritude as an awakening of a race consciousness and black modernism that flowed into Harlem. Cullen's poetry “Heritage” and “Dark Tower” reflect ideas of the Negritude movement. These poems examine African roots and intertwine them with a fresh aspect of African American life. Countee Cullen's work intersects with the Harlem community and such prominent figures of the Renaissance as Duke Ellington and poet and playwright Langston Hughes. Ellington admired Cullen for confronting a history of oppression and shaping a new voice of “great achievement over fearful odds”. " from Wikipedia; B&W Illustrations; 89p. pages; Pictured 4/2/26 . New York:: Harper & Row Publishers 1947. Bright shiny clean square tight and unmarked. The Dust Jacket is NOT price clipped 5.95. INSCRIBED/SIGNED by Ida M. Cullen Mrs. Countee Cullen. No remainder mark. Bound in the original black cloth. Sharp corners. From the Dust Jacket: "This is a collection of the best poems of the distinguished poet Countee Cullen selected by the author shortly before his death in 1946 from the entire range of his work. Included in this volume are several new and hitherto unpublished poems. Here are poems burning and bitter poems deeply religious in feeling poems concerned with death and poems that tell the heavy burden a man had to carry a burden that made him write: 'Yet do I marvel at this curious thing To make a poet black and bid him sing!' But not all the poems are serious or tragic. Countee Cullen wrote with a lyrical beauty he loved the sound off singing lines and enchanting words. He wrote poems of love poems to love and brilliant epitaphs." . INSCRIBED/SIGNED by the poet's wife. . Later printing circa 1972. Hard Cover.
La risposta è no!

Cummings Edward E.; Di Giacomo S. (cur.)
Poesie d'amore
br.
