Schulz the catering proves far less rewarding than the sleuthing when she's called on to prepare a banquet for the Mignon cosmetics company. Forced to forsake mayonnaise and butter in this low-fat luncheon Goldy is in "caterers' hell." But that's a better place than where Mignon super-saleswoman Claire Satterfield ends upwhich is dead. According to Julian Teller Goldy's catering assistant Claire had recently suspected she was being followed. Adding to the mystery is a local reporter who has taken to using Mignon's ultra-expensive potions while trying none too subtly to extract information Goldy might have gathered from her husband homicide detective Tom Schulz. When Goldy's initial inquiries earn her an anonymous warning to clear off she becomes more determined. As always Davidson includes recipes as she brings events to a proper boil in this latest lively and satisfying outing for Goldy who not only solves the mystery but also finds much to her delight that coffee can save your life." ‎Courtesans and Fishcakes : The Consuming Passions of Classical Athens‎

‎The luxury of the ancient world is legendary, but the Athenian reputation is sober because this wealthy, successful city-state spent all its money on the conspicuous consumption of ephemeral things. Their consuming passions for food, wine and sex drove their society, as well as generating the rich web of privilege, transgression, guilt and taboo for which they are remembered today. Using pamphlets, comic satires, forensic speeches - from authors as illustrious as Plato and as ignored as Philaenis - as source material - this study combines a traditional classicist's rigour with an appreciation of the new analytical techniques pioneered in gender and cultural studies to provide an alternative view of ancient Athenian culture and to bring its reality into a focus easier on the modern eye. A fascinating investigation of how ancient Athenians looked at food and women and sex..372p. plates. bibliography.index. Book‎

Hunter Davies takes an affectionate look at the relationship between the beautiful Lakeland countryside and the very private woman who was inspired by itpainted itfarmed it and helped preserve it for future generations to enjoy. He describes the quiet rural life that so fulfilled herthe towns and villages she knewthe customs she encouraged and the shows she attendedas well as tracing the roots of her love for Cumbria from her solitary earlier years in London. He also looks at her passions in the light of today and how they are reflected in present Lakeland life. Hunter Davies speaks with the best authority - that of a fellow Lakeland enthusiast and writer. Cressida Pemberton-Pigott's breathtaking photographs also reflect her own delight in the Lake District. That indefinable pervasive magic of Lakelandwith its soaring hillsquiet valleys tranquil waters and soft English lightcan receive no finer celebration than the words and pictures in this glorious book.It is a fitting tribute to both Beatrix Potter and the land she loved.
