‎Fax Me a Bagel:‎

‎New York: Berkley Prime Crime. Fine. 2001. Mass Market Paperback. No spine crease. 242 pages. A Ruby the Rabbi's Wife Mystery No. 1. It isn't easy being a rabbi's wife in Eternal Texas. It's even harder being a rabbi's widow. More than a year after her husband's death the congregation still expects Ruby to behave "appropriately." But sometimes it's hard to be pious and ladylike when you're investigating a murder.POPPY. SESAME. CINNAMON RAISIN .CYANIDEIt looks like someone's added a new--and deadly--topping to the treats at The Hot Bagel. In fact if Ruby had spoken up when the imperious Essie Sue Margolis insisted on cutting ahead in line she might have been the one lying dead on the floor instead of Essie Sue's sister. Now as her friend the baker faces interrogation--and Ruby starts wondering about a connection to her husband's still-unsolved hit-and-run death--it's up to her to fill in the holes in the story. But she may have bitten off more than she can chew. . Berkley Prime Crime paperback‎

‎Fax Me a Bagel: A Novel Introducing Ruby the Rabbi's Wife‎

‎New York: Scribner. Fine in Fine dust jacket. 1998. First Edition. Hardcover. SIGNED by the AUTHOR. 256 pages. A Ruby the Rabbi's Wife Mystery No. 1. Signed by Author. Follow the bagel crumbs as this savvy heartwarming new series welcomes an enchanting sleuth Ruby the Rabbi's Wife who dodges a cunning killer from her favorite bakery in Eternal Texas to the streets of New York's Lower East Side. Ruby has been a widow for more than a year now since the hit-and-run death of her beloved husband Stu. She should be free to start a new life but once a rabbi's wife always a rabbi's wife at least in Eternal. You never graduate. Ruby can't even escape her least favorite member of the congregation Essie Sue Margolis -- who wears designer clothes to take out the garbage. Ruby figures she should be safe from Essie Sue at eleven in the morning at The Hot Bagel. Wrong. Essie Sue is there in a white silk ensemble never touched by human hands. Ruby's smudged tee shirt does not impress. Still The Hot Bagel makes the best baked goods west of the Hudson and Ruby's not about to miss her favorite morning fix. It comes at a higher price than fashion embarrassment however as Ruby soon discovers that she has more on her proverbial plate than poppy seeds. Marla sister of the much disliked Essie Sue goes into a convulsion and dies leaving not only her bagels on the table but more unanswered questions than Ruby could ever have imagined. Was Marla's death an accident Was it part of a plan How does it fit into other unexplained deaths in the small Texas community that straddles the worlds of the plantation South and the rugged West In a romp through Jewish life filled with love and laughter Ruby encounters more than mayhem. She watches in horror when the temple selection committee finally chooses a rabbi who thinks Essie Sue is the best thing since automated High Holy Day ticketing. Here comes double-trouble. Author Sharon Kahn who spent thirty-one years as a rabbi's wife captures that life in a novel that is genuine and original. Beneath the irony mystery and humor lies a cautionary tale in which Ruby's values come shining through and her intrepid detective work ensures that she'll live to sleuth another day. . ‎Women in Decentralized Rural Governance [Hardcover]‎

‎ABOUT THE BOOK:- Political participation of women has gained momentum in India as gender mainstreaming in political institutions has been supported by political activists. Political empowerment of women is gaining importance in the era of decentralized governance. Women areactively participating in decision making process and functioning of Panchayati Raj Institutions. The reservation for women in local governments has been increased upto 50 percent in many states in view of the growing importance of gender equality and women empowerment. Over the period, there has been increasing share of women in Panchayati Raj Institutions in various states. Political empowerment of women is imperative to ensure engendering development and gender equality in development planning . Women's participation in decision making process is essential for political empowerment. Panchayati Raj Institutions are playing critical role in political empowerment of women. These institutions are creating greater opportunities for women in decision making process at the gross root level. Decentralized governance in Post 1992 scenario has made available the opportunities for empowering women, weaker sections, poor and implementation of participatory rural development paradigms. Moreover, new Panchayat Raj System has introduced the concept of local development planning, participatory development and people's centred governance and development. The decentralized governance has focused on empowerment of Panchayat functionaries, representatives and concerned officials of rural development departments. Against this backdrop, present book highlights the role of elected women in decentralised rural governance The book is based on a major research study conducted in Gujarat and Haryana. ‎SIX SKETCHES ON THE HISTORY OF MAN.‎

‎pp. vi, (2), 262. LACKS 2 pages of advertisements. Slight loss at bottom of pp. 235/236. 8vo. 210 mm. Full leather binding; boards detached. Full title: SIX SKETCHES ON THE HISTORY OF MAN. Containing, the Progress of Men as Individuals. I. The Diversity of Men, and Languages. II. Of Food, and Population. III. Of Property. IV. The Origin and Progress of Commerce. V. The Origin and Progress of Arts. VI. The Progress of the Female Sex. With an Appendix, concerning, the Propagation of Animals, and the care of their Offspring. Age stain. Foxed. Loss bottom margin and a few lines of text on pages 235 & 236. Manuscript ownership of Robert Ross on title page. Capt. Robert Ross (1753-1823) was born in Lancaster, PA, and died in Nicholson Twp, Fayette Co. PA. In 1776 Robert took the oath of allegiance before Col. Miller of Lancaster Co. PA. and enlisted in the Revolutionary War as a private in Capt. James Taylor's company, 4th Penn. Battalion. Ross was regimental color bearer in 1776, under Gen. Anthony Wayne, at the storming of Stony Point (NY). In 1779 at Brandywine and through the Canadian campaign to the close of the war. Robert Ross fought also in the Indian Wars of 1790-1794. Robert Ross was an early settler, of Nicholson Twp. It does not appear that in the early part of the Revolutionary war he was reckoned among the adherents of the patriot cause, but in June, 1779, he took the oath of allegiance to Pennsylvania, and afterwards served to the end of the war under General Wayne. At the close of the struggle he, like thousands of others, was paid the arrears due him for services in Continental money, which was depreciated to one-fortieth of its face value. He afterwards served in the various Indian campaigns in Ohio and Indiana, rising to the rank of captain. In the Whiskey Insurrection of 1794, Capt. Ross was on the side of the insurgents, and commanded a company of about one hundred men of the western and southwestern parts of the county, a part of the (supposed) available force of the insurrectionists to be used in opposition to the government. At the head of this company Capt. Ross marched to Uniontown in August, 1794, to raise the 'liberty poles' in the town, and two miles south of it at Gaddis' place. When Gen. Lee came in with his army to suppress the insurrection, a squadron of cavalry was sent towards the Monogahela for the capture of Robert Ross as insurgent leader, but the expedition was unsuccessful.
