Khwaja Abdul Muntaqim
Islam Discourages Polygamy and Divorce : a Reality, Not a Myth [Hardcover]
ABOUT THE BOOK:- The title of the book ''Islam Discourages Polygamy and Divorce-A Reality, Not a Myth’' is self-explanatory. It is generally believed that Muslims are a polygamous community and Islam grants unfettered liberty for practicing polygamy. Fact of the matter is that prior to the manifestation of Islam, ancient Arabs as also Non-Arabs professing different religions could have as many wives as they liked. Thus Islamic injunction was really a restrictive measure. The right to have four wives granted by Islam is subject to the rider that if a person has more than one wife it is obligatory for him to treat each one equally. An absolute justice in matters like feelings of love, emotions and affection is impracticable. Many a Muslim country, keeping in view the Quranic injunction, have codified the personal law wherein the practice of polygamy has been either totally prohibited or severely restricted. ABOUT THE AUTHOR:- The author is a Delhi based Human Rights Counsel, Scholar and Writer. He is a Member of the International Society for Human Rights and Panel for Legal Studies, Ministry of Human Resource Development (NCPUL). He has been a Visiting Professor in Amity University Institute of Advanced Legal Studies and Additional Legislative Counsel to the Govt. of India, Ministry of Law and Director, NCRLM, Ministry of Minority Affairs. He has also been a Member of Human Rights Education for Teaching Professionals Review Committee, NHRC. He is the author of more than a dozen books on Human Rights issues including some globally recognized books-Protection of Human Rights (National and International Perspectives) with a foreword by Hon'ble The Chief Justice of India, Hindu Muslim Unity and Love for India and Islam's Big 'No' to Terrorism. He has participated in various International Seminars and Conventions on law and religion. CONTENTS:- Preface. 7 1. Status of Women in Islam. 13 2. The Concept of Marriage in Islam. 25 3. Murder mixes with those country-music familiars booze and cheating when the grown-up problems of a childhood chum draw PI Kat Colorado last seen in Alley Kat Blues into the rhinestone world of the C&W tour scene. NIGHT WORK
Bantam 2000. 1st ed. Complete number line. Fine in dust jacket. San Francisco police detective Kate and her partner Al Hawken first introduced in the Edgar-winning A Grave Talent have been called in to investigate the murder of a man who turns out to have a long record of beating up his wife. The wife who took refuge at a battered women's shelter has a rock-solid alibi and there are no other obvious suspects. Meanwhile a group of feminist vigilantes called the Ladies of Perpetual Disgruntlement has been exacting wickedly funny acts of minor revenge against men who physically abuse women. Kate has a sneaking sympathy for the work of the Ladies but when more bodies of abusive men start turning up it looks as though someone--some woman--in San Francisco has taken the ultimate step in vengeance. King brings her theme of women's rage against abusive men together with a focus on goddess worship especially in Indian religions. Kali the Hindu goddess of destruction and creation figures largely in this suspenseful tale. First Edition. Hard Cover. Fine/Fine. Book. Bantam Hardcover

Travels in West Africa
Travels in West Africa (Everyman Classics Series)No European woman had ventured where Kingsley would venture, and no man either. In defiance of Victorian notions about women's roles, she journeyed through West Africa, climbed mountains, experienced harrowing adventures, dwelling among cannibals, and lived to write one of the most admired books of high adventure of all time. Introduced and abridged by Elspeth Huxley from the book first published in 1897, 270p. maps Book

Kinney, Bruce
Mormonism - The Islam of America
190 pages. Illustrated. Issued under the direction of the Council of Women for Home Missions. "It is generally acknowledged that Mormonism is similar to Mohammedansim in its endorsement of the practice of polygamy, and its ideas of heaven. Many other points of similarity between these systems have been noted by students, and the Book of Mormon has marked resemblance to the Koran. As all ancient religions have a modern equivalent, Mormonism can justly be claimed to be the modern form of Mohammedanism, and not incorrectly termed "the Islam of America." - From the Editorial Committees. Prior owner's name and initials atop front endpaper. Front hinge open. Moderate quantity of markings to contents. Above average wear to beige boards. Book
