‎Cet ouvrage intéressant contient des détails curieux sur les personnages de la guerre d'Indépendance et les peuples amérindiens. Ce n'est pas une traduction, comme l'annonce le titre, mais bien l'ouvrage original de l'agronome français Saint-John de Crèvecœur (1731-1813), qui s'était établi en Amérique en 1754 et avait fondé un établissement agricole dans l'État de New York. Pendant la guerre d'Indépendance, il fut arrêté par les Anglais et ses terres furent saccagées. Handsome set of the first edition. Although this work purports to be a translation on the title-page, it is an original work by Crevecoeur. Crevecoeur first came to America in 1754 and would travel widely through the colonies, and the Great Lakes and Ohio regions. The engravings include portraits of Kesketoma, a sachem of Ondondaga and Koohassen, an Oneida warrior; landscape of Niagara Falls; and large maps (miss 2 plates). Il s'agit d'une version mise à jour de la carte rare rédigée par Lewis Evans, initialement publiée en 1755, la ‘’Carte De L'Ile De Nantucket …’’ l’une des premières cartes de l’île, la ‘’Carte de l'Île de Martha's Vineyard avec ses Dépendances... ‘’ une carte des plus anciennes et désirables de Martha's Vineyard. La ‘’Carte Générale des États-Unis de l'Amérique Septentrionale... ‘’. Une carte peu commune des premiers États-Unis et la première carte imprimée avec nom de Frankland, aussi connue sous le nom de Franklinia, elle est montrée ici juste à l'ouest de la frontière de la Caroline du Nord. En 1785, les colons de l'ouest de la Caroline du Nord et de ce qui allait devenir l'est du Tennessee ont organisé un gouvernement d'État qui sera nommé en l'honneur de Benjamin Franklin. Le Congrès a rejeté leur appel, mais l'État a maintenu une législature et un gouverneur jusqu'en 1788. Cet état éphémère n'apparaît que sur un petit nombre de cartes. Le 14e état du Vermont est nommé et noté dans la légende à droite, avec une mention en français qu'il n'était "pas encore accepté dans la confédération". SAINT-JOHN DE CRÊVECOEUR (1735-1813) naquit à Caen dans une famille de petite noblesse. Il servit au Canada de 1755 à 1759 comme cartographe dans les armées françaises, engagées contre les Anglais dans la guerre de Sept Ans, puis exerça divers métiers avant de se fixer en 1760 comme fermier dans le comté d'Orange (État de New York): il fut naturalisé citoyen britannique en 1765 sous le nom de J. Hector Saint-John de Crêvecoeur, et par ailleurs accepté dans la tribu des Oneida en 1766. Second French Edition and considered the "best French edition" and "most complete of all editions" (Howes). The present edition is also "greatly enlarged, the whole of the third volume being added" (Sabin) , complete of maps , plates and titles. First published in English in 1782, Crevecoeur's Letters from an American Farmer was one of the first works to explain a version of a unified American identity through descriptions of American frontier life to Europeans life in rather than comparing the identifies of each colony. ‎Havana: R. Testar 1890. Albumen photograph on cardstock mount image measuring 7 1/4 x 4 1/2 inches on 8 3/4 x 5 1/2 inch mount. A view of an American warship in Havana harbor likely taken prior to the outbreak of hostilities between the United States and Spain in early 1898. The photographers Leach and Patterson of Calle San Rafael published several views of Cuba at this time mostly of bucolic scenes around Havana and its environs. The American cruiser is similar in design to the U.S.S. Maine with slight differences - two smokestacks instead of three. An excellent example with minor wear to mount and fine image. R. Corners and edges worn spine rubbed boards scuffed. Initial leaves of first volume torn away but present. Several other leaves chipped and torn throughout. With many official signatures and docketing stamps. Good. Two volumes of orders promulgated in 1889 and 1900 by the American military government of Cuba after the cessation of hostilities in the Spanish-American War. Under the terms of the Teller Amendment to the Congressional Joint Resolution for war with Spain in 1898 the United States denied the intention of using the conflict as a pretext for the annexation of Cuba and promised to leave the island following the termination of the war. The American military therefore oversaw the creation of the new independent Cuban government before departing in 1902. The documents contained in this collection consist of over two hundred orders in both English and Spanish from the Headquarters Division of Cuba that helped to shape the emerging civilian government. They include instructions for the running of elections the organization of the courts and school system the appointments for various government offices provisions for tax regulations and many other critical issues facing Cuba at its independence. The directives cover two periods from January to July in 1899 and from July to September in 1901. Many of the orders are signed in manuscript by the assistants to the military governor for the island Gen. Leonard Wood including assistant adjutant generals J.B. Hickey and L.W.V. Kennon and Brig. ‎ill., br. Con quest'ultimo libro, dedicato al fronte della Linea Gotica, si conclude la collana dedicata a tutti quei soldati della R.S.I. che combatterono, e morirono, per la difesa della Patria. Sul fronte della Linea Gotica furono numerosi i reparti italiani, appartenenti a Divisioni dell'E.N.R. o a reparti autonomi, che vennero impiegati nella difesa delle postazioni difensive, a fianco delle truppe tedesche, contro l'avanzata degli Alleati. Fu una lotta impari, contro la supremazia acclarata in tutti i campi dagli Alleati che, nonostante tutto, dovettero faticare molto più del previsto per superare le linea difensiva per poter poi dilagare nella Pianura Padana e raggiungere le Alpi. Il contributo dato dai militari della Repubblica Sociale alla difesa della Linea Gotica fu riconosciuto dagli stessi alleati tedeschi, che non mancarono di insignire con loro decorazioni molti militari italiani. Da parte alleata, invece, molto raramente vengono citati i reparti della R.S.I. che hanno combattuto sulla Gotica.‎
