This copy signed and inscribed by his son John Watts Kearny and is dated June 8 1891. Owners bookplate front paste-down no marks in book binding tight. Gow was a Lieutenant of a Machine Gun Company in the 7th Regiment of the New York National Guard which was called into Federal service in 1916 and sent to the Mexican border. Upon the US entry in World War I the 7th Regiment was designated the 107th Infantry and fought in the Ypres salient and at Mt.Kemmel. Gow was killed in action October 17 1918 and was buried at St. Souplet British Cemetery in northern France. The full page original artwork added to this edition is that of two young soldiers sitting with one singing "and spend the rest of my life in bed!"
