‎Histoire du renflouement du sous-marin américain S 51 en 1926. — Le 25 septembre 1925, le USS S-51 coula au large de Point Judith après une collision avec le paquebot « City of Rome ». Seuls 3 hommes survécurent sur les 36 à bord. — "Le sous-marin américain S-51 fut abordé au large de Block Island par le vapeur « City of Rome », et coula par quarante mètres de fond. La marine américaine entreprit de le relever. La direction des travaux de renflouage fut confiée au capitaine de frégate Ellsberg qui avait déjà fait preuve de qualités techniques exceptionnelles. L’équipe de sauvetage livra une véritable lutte à la mer pour lui arracher l’épave. Elle se prolongea pendant près d’un an et connut des péripéties souvent dramatiques. Le courage et l’obstination des hommes l’emportèrent à la fin. C’est le récit de cette lutte que nous donne le commandant Ellsberg dans un style si plein de vie qu’il sait intéresser aux détails les plus techniques et que son livre est passionnant d’un bout à l’autre, plus que la plupart des romans d’aventures.
