There is a short article on page 11 on William McFarland who was retiring after 35 years of service. McFarland joined the 12th Minnesota Volunteer Infantry on 27 June 1898. He served at Camp Chickamauga GA and was mustered out on 5 November 1898. He then enlisted in the Hospital Corps atFt. Snelling MN on 16 November 1898. He served in Cuba with the Army of Occupation and was transferred to the Philippines in 1899. He returned from the Philippines in 1903 and served again in the Philippines from 1911 to 1914.
