‎TWO BLACK & WHITE PHOTOGRAPHS OF BOMBER PILOTS WEARING SHEEPSKIN FLIGHT JACKETS‎

‎1942 Dinjian. Two early black and white photographs one dated:"12-1.42" on the verso back the other with pilot's name size: a. 14.2 x 8.8 cm.; b. 7.4 x 11.7 cm. very clear & unfaded images on glossy photo paper. ORIGINAL PERIOD . . . A PAIR OF EARLY WORLD WAR 2 PHOTOGRAPHS . . . TENTH ARMY AIR FORCE BOMBER PILOTS WEARING SHEEPSKIN . . . FLYING UNIFORMS IN THE "C.B.I." THEATER OF WAR . . . FLYING FROM ROYAL AIR FORCE AIRFIELD DUBJAN INDIA . . . TO KUNMING YUNNAN CHINA . The "Hump" was the nickname of the world's tallest mountain range the Himalayas given by U.S. Army Air Force pilots. They flew bomber planes loaded with cargo to Kunming China in the C.B.I. China Burma & India theaters of World War 2 Asia. . The "Hump" was the one and only way to support the "A.V.G." "AMERICAN VOLUNTEER GROUP" later known as the famous "FLYING TIGERS" created and commanded by Major General Claire L. Chennault. . The flight from India at high-altitude in freezing aircraft temperatures required sheepskin flying uniforms. These bulky but warm flight jackets trousers and boots protected the flight crew from freezing to death. . The frequent bomber flights provided Chennault with the material to prosecute the air war against the Japanese air force: gasoline ammunition food rations medical supplies and other necessities. There was no land route to Kunming as the Japanese military forces had cut off western China from all allied support. . The two photographs were most likely taken at the Royal Air Force airfield at Dinjan India just prior to take off. The flight crew consisted of: pilot co-pilot navigator and a relief flier. . The first photograph the larger shows four airmen in sheepskin flight uniforms. The smaller photograph shows a pilot in typical sheepskin flight uniform: jacket trousers boots with his parachute attached to his back ready for take off to Kunming. . Color photos are posted to our website. . REFERENCE: . The Hump: en-wikipedia-org/wiki/The_Hump . . unknown‎

‎WORLD WAR 2 KUNMING "FLYING TIGER" SERGEANT TRAINING CHINESEAIRCRAFT MECHANICS O.‎

‎Kunming 192-1944. A black & white photograph very clean & excellent image no fading sheet size: 6.5 x 10.2 cm.image size: 5.4 x 5.4 cm. glossy paper strong image. VERY RARE ORIGINAL PERIOD PHOTOGRAPH . . . . A VERY RARE ORIGINAL 1942-1944 PHOTOGRAPH . . . SHOWING AN AMERICAN TECHNICAL SERGEANT TRAINING . . . CHINESE AIR FORCE MECHANICS . . . ON CURTISS P-40 TOMAHAWK PROPELLER MAINTENANCE . . The "A.V.G." "AMERICAN VOLUNTEER GROUP" later well known as the "FLYING TIGERS" were created and commanded by Major General Clarie L. Chennault headquarters in Kunming Yunnan China. . The "A.V.G." and "FLYING TIGERS" were part of the "C.B.I." "CHINA BURMA & INDIA" theater of World War 2 in Asia. Their personnel in the early years was limited to 300 volunteers. Aircraft maintenance was critical and American mechanics were less than what was needed. . Chennault requested of Mme. and Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek the assistance of Chinese Air Force mechanics to service the CURTISS P-40 TOMAHAWK fighter plane used to prosecute the air war against the Japanese air force. . To that end Chinese mechanics came to Kunming for training and aircraft service assistance. Under Chennault the GSS GENERAL STAFF SCHOOL a training course designed for Chinese Air Force mechanics was undertaken. . This photograph is a very rare original example of an American technical sergeant training five Chinese mechanics. They are under a make-shift roof against the barracks at the Kunming airport headquarters of the "FLYING TIGERS." . This exact brick structure appears in several other period photographs of this and other similar buildings used to house and feed Army Air Force personnel. A Chinese officer at the immediate far right looks on as the class progresses. . The technical sergeant holds a P-40 propeller part with other related parts and tools on the training table. There is another aircraft part resting on the floor near the table leg. . In the background tacked to the brick wall is a training chart showing a blow-up of other P-40 parts. . The five Chinese Air Force students wear khaki shirt shorts with a name tag on each. Most wear wrist watches a symbol of some affluence during the sparse years of the 1937 Sino-Japanese war. They wear no rank or other identifying military badges. . CONDITION: The photograph is very clean with excellent focus and registry no fading or other blemishes on glossy paper. . RARITY: Photographs of American soldiers training Chinese soldiers are RARE. This excellent example shows the actual process of the training class. . REFERENCES: . AMERICAN VOLUNTEER GROUP" later known as the famous "FLYING TIGERS" were conceived of and commanded by Major General Claire L. Chennault. This group was part of the "C.B.I." The superb and early photograph shows several "FLYING TIGERS" at chow. The food was simple but plentiful: local fried chicken rice bread brown & white walnuts green vegetables peanuts bananas grapes apples salt pepper & rice gruel soup. This "Chow Deluxe" was a later development in Kunming after the barracks and mess hall were built by the Chinese. . The personnel wear the typical "U.S. ARMY AIR FORCE" gold wings against a blue back ground round right-shoulder patch. On the left shoulder is the "C.B.I." unit patch in blue white & red. ‎U.S. AAF ARMY AIR FORCE OFFICER PILOT DRESS "CRUSHER" CAP.Original World War‎

‎New York 1940 Hunt. U.S. Army Air Force Officer pilot's cap olive drab mohair wool extra fine high-quality leather visor chin-strap brass buttonslarge brass eagle insignia very good condition complete worn by Americans dated.RARE . . . . VERY RARE DATED 1940 OFFICER'S "CRUSHER" CAP . . . OLIVE DRAB GREEN 100% MOHAIR WOOL AND LEATHER . . . WORN BY "A.V.G. "AMERICAN VOLUNTEER GROUP" & . . . "FLYING TIGERS" THROUGHOUT WORLD WAR 2 IN CHINA & BURMA . This is a very good used example of the Officer Pilot U.S. Army Air Force mohair wool & all leather cap. . CRUSHER STYLE A.A.F. ARMY AIR FORCE CAP: The cap is often called "crusher" type since it was used by aviators wearing headphones. The hat could also be folded and put in the pocket when necessary without damage. The visor and chin-strap are of brown calf leather with out damage firmly in place with two expandable tabs and a small buckle at the back for expansion. This cap was very popular and worn from the beginning of World War II by U.S. A.A.F. Army Air Force pilots and crew members. The main difference being in the quality of the wool cover. The high quality finely woven mohair type was issued to officers while the rougher more course weave was wool was for the enlisted crew members. . The steel band that goes inside the wool cover accompanies this cap to make it a 'crusher' pilots removed this item to allow the outside top edges of the cap to be loose and allow the wear to use earphones over this cap. The buyer can use this cap either way. . THE EAGLE EMBLEM AT THE TOP: There were various makers of the cap and the hardware. Each maker made a slightly variant emblem of the eagle clutching sheaves of grain and arrows with an eagle in the center with a round disk showing 13 stars surrounded by a field of flowers. While the subject of the emblem remains virtually the same the exact style varied with makers as did the style of the eagle's wings. Some were more open in a "V" shape others more closed or vertical in a "V" shape. . THE HUNT CO. HUNT NEW YORK MAKER: Inside the leather brim is some black printed information we hope it was correctly read some letters are less than clear: "June 29 1940 qm 278 SPEC. O.Q.D. No. 595 STOCK No. 73-F-2111 Q.M. P.O.N.Y." . This example was made in Hunt New York by an unstated company. The usual plastic head liner is missing it was the usual place to carry the maker's name. Elsewhere we found "Hunt New York most likely this was the Hunt Co. product. . The interior top liner is khaki color satin with a leather liner and brown ribbon at the back where the leather band is joined. The size is about 7 inches. . QUALITY: This is a superior quality officer's hat with high-grade calf-brown leather visor and an excellent quality leather of a lighter color under the visor. The fine leather chinstrap has the two brass screw retainers buttons at the side 3 belt loops in all and a bronze buckle at the rear. All in all excellent quality materials & workmanship. . CONDITION: There are a few typical tiny and old moth holes on the top of the hat otherwise a very good example no damage or other issues. The inside leather band has some minor wear opposite the forehead as usual. . RARE: This World War 2 early A.A.F. "Crusher" hat is quite rare and seldom found on the market in such very good condition for a 1940 dated item now nearly 80 years old. . . unknown‎

The famous "Battle of Toungoo" Burma March 19-March 29 1942 was one of the key battles in the Battle of Yunnan-Burma Road in the Burma Campaign of World War II and Second Sino-Japanese War. The failure to hold the city of Toungoo opened up the route for the Japanese to make their lunge to Lashio around the allied flank and into the Chinese rear. The "A.V.G." fighter pilots performed brilliantly downing a substantial number of Japanese planes with minor losses to themselves. . This map and others like it for the adjacent areas were commonly worn on fighter pilot's neck or put in the pocket of the flight jacket survival vest or in the flight suit pant leg pocket. . MAP NO. 32 FRENCH INDO CHINA: A.A.F. Army Air Force issue. A pair of maps one on each side in color. Shows most of old Vietnam from just above 19 degrees north down to just below 9 degrees South and from 101 degrees at the West to 110 degrees to the West about half of Hainan Island the whole coast line from North to South down to Nga Ba Hoc Nang including Poulo Condore Saigon Nha Trang Tourane part of Thailand the West Cambodia and Laos Vientiane. . MAP NO. 33 CENTRAL CHINA: Shows: Ch'ung Ch'ching Chungqing down to Yunnan province and Kunming. Guangxi province: Guilin Liuzhou Nanning and points south to French Indo China. . Hanoi Kwangchow and the South China Sea with the North tip of Hainan Island the Gulf of Tonkin and the border between China & North Vietnam. . This area was all part of the basic combat region for the "A.V.G." & "FLYING TIGERS" later for the FOURTEENTH AIR FORCE. The Americans prosecuted the war against Japanese forces throughout this area. . With ocean currents noted for survival back to land. The map also has other important information for downed pilots such as an Annual Magnetic Change compass miles & kilometer scale nautical miles 1:1000 000 altitudes of land mass legend & key to symbols roads towns cities rivers mountains and an index to international boundaries. . This map was part of the U.S. Army Air Force & Naval flyers "E & E" Escape and Evasion survival kit printed on thick silk parachute or other indelible cloth. Each air crew member carried among other survival supplies a .38 caliber pistol survival knife a signal mirror stainless steel or glass compass and some survival food rations fishing kit water purification tablets along with minor medical supplies; the whole kit was tucked into flight suit pocket survival vest or flyers sheepskin jacket or trouser pockets. . The majority of these perishable maps have been lost during WW2 and very few survived. This map was a fliers "Last Hope" to get back to friendly forces once they parachuted our of their plane or after an unexpected landing behind Japanese lines. . Led by Chiang Kai Shek. . The United States Supported the KMT. In this album we see how the KMT soldiers hosted the American Army in China using their trains and military bases throughout China. This unusual album contains 400 original b. w. photographs & and is an historic photographic record of American military deployment showing Dough-boys in China probably from the U.S. Army's 2nd. Battalion 15th. infantry per the flag and insignia found on a group formation photograph. A minority are with written captions by and large taken by the person who made the album also enhanced with a small percent of professional Chinese photos some of which have in-negative captions. There are ca. 3 or so photos missing else completely filling 32 pages or 64 sides one on the inside back cover. The inside of the front cover has five attractive period color luggage type adverts from various hotels: Hotel Lankershim & Coast Line Military & Naval Hotel San Francisco Cal; The Court Hotel Tientsin North China; Grand Hotel des Wagons Litz; Astor House Hotel Ltd. Tientsin. The album begins with photos of a Chinese playing a Pi-pa snake skin banjo then there are three other photos: first two show a Chinese military camouflage train engine from which a Yank soldier in his campaign hat descends and a long train of cars with a large howitzer mounted upon one last shows French troops at parade rest with their rifles and white gloves and crested helmets with anchors naval or marines with others in the background with some officers. The opposite page shows another view of the Chinese military train a pair of large mounted guns on an armored train car. To the right is a Chinese officer pointing to a large pierced hole in the train with a foreign engineer peering out from the small window. The train sports the Republic of China flag with a Chinese military unit flag painted on the side. Another view shows a group of abandoned Chinese coffins that went to the dogs; a group of soldiers in garrison caps at attention with fixed bayonets as the officers salute someone near the person taking the photo some Chinese officers also present. Next 2 pages show Chinese on a wheel barrow some Japanese women by a pond in Kimono and a group of British troops from their colonial Empire: blacks Indians white trumpeter Chinese and others with musical instruments all wear white cork-type pith helmets. A group of Japanese officers mugging for the camera. Photos of the railhead and large number of Chinese troops with rifles and kit at the railway station some on march carrying their flags others in open box cars with touring cars that are on the move another of camouflaged armored train cars one shows a number of foreign soldiers looking out of a train car window some are with tiny embossed stamp at right corner: "Mei Lee Tien Tsin." The album continues with a mixture of images of civilian Chinese Chinese military their trains moving air planes weapons war refugees in tents military views of barbed wire fortifications trenches machine gunners Russian soldiers Chinese officers Chinese air force funerals rickshaw pullers camel trains captured & wounded prisoners foreign soldiers at their sand-bagged posts. Photos of the great wall magnificent Chinese architectural monuments buildings and pagodas religious icons coffins more coffins mortars & Chinese junks and a plethora of others. The American Consulate General's compound in Tientsin American military band welcoming the newly arrived replacement troops. A large photo group shot of the American officers seated for a memorial photograph with their Battalion flag proudly posted on the wall where they pose source of our citation at the top of the unit name; two buglers are at each outside position the commander is ram-rod straight and taller than all others seated in the front & center; he and only two others on his sides wear full leather knee boots probably indicating the highest ranking officers; others are in boots & leggings. Photos of Doughboys aboard a ship showing the Naval officers with one stunning photo of an American high officer with his Japanese & Chinese counter parts posing for the camera. And a photo of the "Mail Boat Gazun Panama" and a few others of Panama giving credence to the fact that some of these soldiers came from the American East coast via Panama to San Francisco then on to China. Nice photo of semi-nude Panamanian family men women children. Doughboys at target practice photos of Chinese poverty coolies pulling great loads and street vendors. More showing Chinese life style street life horse & bullock carts and yet more caskets left in the open unburied and abandoned train cars full of horses Chinese troops smoke rising from a burning city another with "Tian jin" written in Chinese catholic church more parading of American soldiers within the Tientsin American Consulate parade grounds trooping of the colors. And a nice photo of the "U.S. Army Transport Thomas" Chinese junk &c. A U.S. soldier in a necktie his rifle at fixed bayonet at parade-rest before the Consulate General compound with sand bags inside a photo of a U.S. soldier with his Colt-45 on his hip with canteen looking at some communications connections another photo of two mini U.S. tanks and a very long bridge over the water. Photo of the Tientsin downtown with a Sikh Indian policeman directing traffic. Next page shows a public Chinese street execution: the guilty on his knees with the executioner ready to swing a very large sword and another headless corpse is before him the Tientsin YMCA compound opposite which is likely the inside of the American Consulate offices showing very ancient typewriters and three women staff and one other female Navy person. They all mug for the camera with a good number of U.S. Army or Marine officers behind three desks. Chinese hauling "magnum gold" brand ammunition on hand- trucks a U.S. Army band performing before the Consulate's office. At this point we find a few photos with penned captions: "One of China's Department Stores it shows a bird vendor; Peanut Gambler a mountain of P-nuts; Chinese Shimboo photo of the office and maker of the album and his Chinese officer friend ; "A Chinese Taxi" shows him in a Rickshaw "Me and the boy friend 11/3/28" shows a tiny goat cart carrying a child's coffin with a Chinese man. This penned date gives substantial proof of the date range of the entire album which was placed about the center of the whole work. The next page shows two more penned captions: "Chinese cavalry" and "Note mud house and fence" shows two Chinese officers on horse-back and a very very poor house with very starved animals. The next shows six Chinese undercover men two each holding a Chinese being readied for execution; and a very grizzly photo of a Chinese officer actually executing a Chinese man with his pistol who is seated on a rock: the photo captures the action as the shot blows away the mans brains. Behind the execution scene is a crowd of American soldiers in campaign hats and Chinese military officers who are witness to the event. More views of Chinese street life vendors pullers haulers & horse carts religious icons and a stunning Chinese roofed gate more Chinese troops on the move via train with a very horrible view of a large number of dead Chinese in the muddy filthy waters by a bridge. They show American soldiers at leisure looking at Chinese fishermen nets naked fishermen hauling in a net of fish to the beach a burning waterfront village the jetty where several large American transport ships are at anchor and a great assembly of Yankee soldiers on the beach with duffel bags and their gear at the railhead. The last photo shows a great number of various whisky bottles lined up for display. More photos show a coffin maker large coffin basket seller and "chow" sellers on the street. A military formation of 100's of either Scottish or Irish soldiers with fixed bayonets marching down the main street before the "RNC Electricity Dept." below which is a very long line of British soldiers on one side of the street opposite from a good number of American soldiers who are on the side of the street a British Union Jack flies over a castle-like structure this is clearly some kind of grand military parade. More photos of the Great Wall the military parade and army chaplains with an Australia flag flying over another castle tower. Chinese river scene with large numbers of native boats in a canal a beggar's camp with straw -mat tents a canal crossing ferry for people a photo of a U.S. officer stand on top a wooden coffin for a closer look. More poverty-stricken Chinese haulers fortune tellers graves tethered horses log sawyers rice haulers electric trolley with English and Chinese language sign on the roof panorama post card of Shanghai's Bund. The album now shifts to photos of the Peking area. Shows the Ming tombs and the camel-lined road; military train the Americans were transported by that train a large bivouac and tent city where the U. S. military troops camped some Chinese "house boys" proudly holding the American troop's unit flag. More photos of two U.S. soldiers posing near Chinese coffins in a wet ditch. A group of very young Chinese boys posed near the railroad; one is so poor that he has no clothes at all and is in nude. A large group of Nationalist Chinese soldiers marching along a street one classic photo of a single American soldier on guard standing at attention as stands vigil on a barbed-wire barrier his rifle at fixed bayonet. A group of five Chinese young "ladies" who pose for the camera who seemed NOT to be bewildered by the photographer they look like "Sing-song girls" hookers who entertained the U.S. troops. Chinese Buddhist priests in white robes with shaved heads a great gate to Peking Shanghai harbor views shanty huts captured Chinese criminal or traitor guarded by Chinese soldiers train car full of rifles more Chinese soldiers on trains marching in formation on the road. And a good photo of several American officers: one with a whip posing for the camera in garrison hat. Chinese bivouac and American soldiers with bullet and pouches for ammo with rifles at parade rest. More barbed-wire barricades Chinese & British soldiers armored train-mounted gun. More Chinese prisoners traitors being executed heads hoisted on power poles in baskets as a form of public warning and display for other would-be traitors. An American tent bivouac camp at the train yard two more public exec executions by beheading at the moment of loosing one's head an executed dead man lying in the street. Photos of Peking's Forbidden City a Chinese hung to death from a tree a Yank soldier in overalls carries a Chinese bamboo "yoke" with two baskets and smokes a pipe while Chinese look on and laugh. Two photos of lines of Rickshaws waiting for passengers. One comic photo with negative caption: "Find the Chinaman;" it shows two American soldiers sitting among Chinese. Nice shot of the Summer Palace Peking and a U.S. soldier riding in a Rickshaw. The very last photo inside the back cover shows the whole battalion dressed up wearing their chrome helmets standing at attention in formation for a classic and most historic memorial photograph. Their commanding officer is front and center; all have their rifles ammo belts and very polished boots with back packs. They could be standing in the Tientsin American Consulate compound grounds. Followed by a few other photos of Chinese a Chinese soldier et al. This work shows the typical things seen in China during this period of political and military chaos. The feuding war lords and political parties at war; the landing of American military to protect American diplomatic interests. Support & assistance given to the Americans and other foreign military groups by the Nationalist Chinese army. The desperate situation of the tragic Chinese people caught in the grips of upheaval and the summary punishment of traitors in a public display of the swift and ruthless law of China. A riveting and most compelling true record of a U.S. military officer's sojourn to and deployment in China. THE PHOTOGRAPHER AND THE SIZE OF PHOTOGRAPHS: This is not a professional group of photographs but there a very small amount which were obviously purchased by the maker of the album and inserted. The vast majority are his personal photographs these again are obvious to anyone who looks at the album. This is an excellent example of private work of an unknown American Army officer stationed in China during a very chaotic period. He was interested in recording for posterity his experiences and the sights that he saw while on duty. We thank him for giving us privy to this slice of American and Chinese military history. SIZE OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS: The size varies considerably sizes in cm.: the smallest are 8 x 5 most are 14 x 9 3 larger photos 24.5 x 18 and the last 30 x 10. CONDITION OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS: These are original period photos they are all very clear sharp images no fading and in excellent condition. They have been corner mounted. RARITY: Photographic albums of this period in China are NOT commonly found; one made by an American Army officer stationed in China at this time is exceptionally unusual and RARE ! This is a charming primary source with a large number of clean & sharp images taken by an actual participant in this historic period of China. The officer and photographer of these photographs shared for posterity his keen insight and view of these events. We thank him for giving us privy to this slice of American & Chinese military history. . unknown‎

‎Black US Army Soldiers in France‎

‎Black W.W.I Soldiers from the 811th Pioneer Infantry Regiment Competing in Games in Occupied France Photo Archive 1918‎

‎1918. African African MilitaryWWI African American soldiers of the 811th Pioneer Infantry Regiment in France three original photographs circa 1918 documenting Black American troops during World War I. These images illuminate the racialized structure of the U.S. Army in which African American regiments were disproportionately assigned to labor and stevedore work while simultaneously participating in regimented recreational activities designed to sustain morale. The photographs support research in African American military history and racial segregation in the armed forces offering contemporaneous press documentation of Black soldiers' presence in France.

Three original silver gelatin photographs. France: circa 1918. Versos with applied Brown Brothers New York credit labels and ink release stamps; one stamped as released by the Committee on Public Information April 17 1918. The photographs measure approximately 8.5 x 6.5 inches and 7 x 5 inches. One image captures a tug-of-war competition among African American infantrymen identified in the caption as members of an infantry regiment encamped "across the shore in France" with a captain of a machine gun company serving as referee. The men in mixed military and work attire strain collectively against the rope visually staging discipline and unity. The remaining two photographs depict ostrich-drawn cart races attended and handled by Black soldiers and civilians; one shows a uniformed rider seated in a two-wheeled cart drawn by an ostrich while another captures the animal rearing as a handler steadies it before a crowd. All three prints bear Brown Brothers agency attributions linking them to one of the earliest American stock photography firms supplying images to newspapers and public agencies.

Produced at a moment when the federal government actively shaped public perception of the war through the Committee on Public Information these photographs participate in a broader visual narrative presenting African American troops as disciplined cooperative and integrated into the Allied war environment even as the U.S. military remained segregated and structured by racial hierarchy. The 811th Pioneer Infantry Regiment largely assigned to stevedore and labor duties in France exemplifies the constrained combat opportunities afforded Black units; yet these images foreground physical strength spectacle and communal recreation rather than manual labor alone. As press-distributed photographs they bridge military documentation and civilian consumption contributing to the visual archive of Black military service at a time when photographic representation of African American soldiers in non-combat settings was comparatively limited. Light edge wear minor surface creasing and scattered handling marks; versos with agency labels and ink stamps as issued. Very good. Collectively the group offers concentrated visual evidence of African American wartime service morale culture and state-mediated representation during World War I. unknown‎

‎Cold War Intelligence Training United States Army Intelligence School Archive on Soviet Systems Mapping and Nuclear Doctrine 1959 to 1963‎

‎1959. United States Army Intelligence School. Intelligence training archive. 1959-1963. This archive documents the institutional training system used by the U.S. Army Intelligence School at Fort Holabird during the Cold War outlining how personnel were instructed in reconnaissance mapping foreign intelligence analysis and counterintelligence operations. The material establishes a formal curriculum designed to prepare officers for intelligence work in the context of U.S.-Soviet conflict combining doctrinal interpretation of adversary systems with technical instruction in observation terrain analysis and operational planning. It provides primary evidence of how intelligence training integrated ideological framing with practical field methods.

Archive of 13 instructional documents totaling approximately 459 pages issued between 1959 and 1963 including manuals technical booklets and training schedules. Titles include 1 Soviet Intelligence Systems Nov 1962 2 Observation and Description Jan 1961 3-5 Military Map Reading booklets 1959-1961 6 Interpretation of Highways Bridges and Transportation Facilities Oct 1961 7 USAINTS Library Guide Jan 1962 8 Operational Data on South Korea I Sep 1962 9 Nuclear Warfare II Jun 1963 10 Benelux Jul 1961 11 Solution of Dispersion Problems undated and 12-13 weekly training schedules June and July 1963. The manuals include diagrams and exercises on map reading identifying "recognition distance and direction" as core elements with annotated examples of azimuth calculation and grid use. Instructional material in Observation and Description includes facial and morphological diagrams distinguishing features such as "Vertical Forehead" and "Bushy" eyebrows for identification purposes. Soviet Intelligence Systems presents ideological analysis stating that Soviet security organs are "extensions of the Party's designs" and describing intelligence as "a pervasive force which envelops every sector of society." Infrastructure manuals include photographic examples of roads and bridges for field identification while the Library Guide outlines access systems and spatial organization of intelligence resources. Weekly schedules list training components such as report writing practical exercises and seminars alongside technical instruction in photography.

Produced during a period of sustained Cold War tension these materials show how the U.S. Army formalized intelligence education by combining political interpretation of adversaries with standardized technical training. The emphasis on mapping surveillance and infrastructure analysis reflects preparation for both conventional and nuclear-era operations while the inclusion of regional studies such as South Korea and Benelux indicates geographic scope within global strategic planning. Minor rust to staples light edge toning and scattered manuscript annotations; occasional corner creases and small marginal tears not affecting text; overall very good. A cohesive archive of Cold War intelligence training preserving the instructional methods and analytical frameworks used by the U.S. Army in the early 1960s. unknown‎
