Bound in the original full color pictorial laminated boards. Oversize Hardcover. 8.75" wide by 11.25" tall. This large book may require SUBSTANTIAL extra postage for International shipments but only the standard charge for priority or media mail. From the publisher: "The alarming symptoms of Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome - sudden tics OCD and regressions in both learning ability and behavior - can leave families stunned. Moreover when educators and mental health professionals attempt to provide those families with desperately needed help those providers may soon discover that tools useful for addressing those symptoms in the general population are ineffective for the youth who is battling PANS. In this seminal work on PANS-related education learning specialist educator and researcher Dr. Candelaria Greene PhD gives voice to the struggle that those extraordinary young people and families face. She offers a practical road map to assist those students through their unique academic challenges. Sprinkled with humor and poignant tones Dr. Candelaria Greene provides an in-depth historical overview of PANS followed by a discussion of how this multifaceted condition thwarts students' abilities both inside and outside of the classroom. She then reviews the processes and challenges of obtaining special education accommodations and other essential services along with a detailed review of the ways in which laws in the United States support those essential interventions for students with PANS-related symptoms. The calling card of PANS is one of jagged dysfunction in multiple areas - along with healing and recovered function over time. Those symptoms require that providers look beyond 'a one-size-fits-all approach' when treating the PANS-affected child or young adult. Accordingly Dr. Candelaria Greene provides continuums of educational support that are unique to each student's circumstances. Moreover she provides 'signposts' to help the practitioner and parent identify those educational and special educational practices that will be most effective in the educational care of students with PANS. Finally the book provides practical tools for providers and families alike through appendices that include a PANS check list glossary references web resources descriptors of OCD and tic disorders and sample letters to initiate educational services. Jamie Candelaria Greene PhD has served students with special needs from all ages and developmental levels. Her work as a teacher and professor of Special Education has spanned over thirty years and three continents. Dr. Candelaria Greene's research and writing has focused attention on effective educational practices literacy language acquisition and especially the effects of health conditions and the environment on learning ability. In addition to holding teaching credentials in Regular and Special Education Preschool through Adult she is a Board Certified Educational Therapist as well as a Certificated Learning Specialist for the California Community College System. In her private practice Dr. Candelaria Greene has provided educational assessments academic support for adults re-entering education and readiness skills for children at risk. In addition to her clinical practice Dr. Candelaria Greene recently completed a two year tenure as a Visiting Scholar Researcher at the University of California Berkeley where she investigated the effects of PANS on learning; an evolving and passionate inquiry ignited by her own child's journey with the illness.". 1st ed No additional printings listed. The Brain Cognition and Education
Orlando Florida: Academic Press Inc. 1986. Appears unread. Near Fine condition. Square and tight. NOT a library discard. Previous owner's last name only on the front free endpaper. All other pages are fresh and crisp. NO underlining. NO highlighting. NO margin notes. 1986. First Printing of the First Edition with complete number row 987654321 on the copyright page. List of bibliographical references after each chapter. Index. Bound in the original light gray cloth stamped in dark green. From a review by Porter Coggins: "The editors take an interdisciplinary approach to these three disciplines for the purpose of using relevant research from each to inform the other. Individual chapters are authored by well respected researchers in their respective fields of psychology neuroscience and education. The editors have steered the contributors to chapters relevant to "attention knowledge acquisition representation and use; and cognitive and neural development." pg 6. The chapters are well written at a technical level but the main points are not beyond comprehension for those not versed in details of the respective fields. Far from trying to build a "A Bridge Too Far" Bruer J. T. 1997 Educational Researcher 286 4-16 the authors take principled perspectives and refrain from making unfounded "magic pill" claims that Bruer and others have cautioned against. In fact Friedman Klivington and Peterson predated the founding of the International Mind Brain and Education Society; The Educated Brain Battro and Fischer Eds. 2006; Blake and Gardner's "A First Course in Mind Brain and Education 2007; and doctoral programs that integrated theses fields University of Idaho Harvard University and others by decades. Although research has advanced since this edited volume was published and EEG-ERP is not the main investigative tool for non-invasive brain research having been superseded with the ubiquitous use of fMRI MRI and in some extreme cases PET the directions and the questions of the investigators and tentative conclusions are just as valid and important to read now as when this volume was first published. This text is of value for researchers and graduate students interested in a scholarly background of the beginning of the integration of these disciplines.". First Printing of the First Edition. Dillihunt, Dr. Vivian C.; & Sally B. Kilgore, PhD. (preface by) h. D.
Principles for Principals: Successful Strategies Used in a High Performing High Poverty No-Excuses School
Memphis Tennessee: Dillihunt Enterprises Inc. / Four-G 2005. New and unread in PERFECT condition. Bright and shiny. Flat uncreased spine. NO chips tears creases or fading. Square and tight. Hinges are perfect. NO owner's name or bookplate. NOT a remainder. Pages are bright white fresh crisp clean and unmarked. Preface by Sally B. Kilgore Ph.D. Bound in the original blue pictorial laminated boards. From the publisher: "The principalship is notably one of the most stressful jobs in the workforce. Widespread criticism from the media national headlines about random acts of violence the push for the use of public funds for school vouchers a shortage of qualified teachers and a widening gap between the "haves" and the "have-nots" compound the problems faced by educators on every front. How then does one promote success where it seems that a self-fulfilling prophecy exists concerning high-poverty school populations and a decrease in parental involvement It is not easy but this book shows how it has been done. As principal of a high-performing school located in an area characterized as low economic in a large urban school district there were several factors that were used for creating a culture to breed great expectations and success. As a result of our gains we were featured in the book by Samuel Casey Carter entitled No Excuses: Lessons from 21 High-Performing High-Poverty Schools published by The Heritage Foundation. After years of receiving a multitude of calls from principals teachers and administrators who wanted to know more about what was done that caused us to become successful I decided to assemble some of the organizational activities and strategies that were used. The result is this practical handbook designed to 1 share some of the strategies that we feel resulted in the development of effective teachers and successful students attaining high achievement test scores 2 provide principals with ideas to help lead their schools to better success 3 provide teachers with documented effective instructional expectations 4 provide parents community business and industry with a description of practices to look for in a well-run school and 5 identify to business and community groups what they can do to help build stronger schools.". 1st ed No additional printings listed. Occupying the Academy: Just How Important Is Diversity Work in Higher Education
Lanham Maryland: Rowman & Littlefield Publishers Inc 2012. In English with 2 chapters in Spanish. Appears unread. Fine condition. Sharp corners. NO owner's name or bookplate. NOT a library discard. NOT a remainder. Pages are crisp clean and unmarked - apparently never read. Foreword by Sonja Nieto. Tables. Bibliography. Index. Bound in the original pictorial laminated boards. From the rear cover: "In the wake of the election of President Obama many diversity scholars and practitioners imagined that renewed commitments to educational equity and justice were just around the corner. Unfortunately the opposite has become the Obama-era reality. Across the country equity and diversity workers at all levels in university and colleges but especially Chief Diversity Officers in public institutions are under assault. Is this assault a result of a pre-meditated and carefully calculated conservative political agenda or the unfortunate consequence of how largely white politically conservative -- and the power bases they represent -- are expressing their anger about the changing racial landscape in the United States This volume explores and deconstructs the reasons for this assault from various perspectives. This volume also illustrates how the national assault on equity and diversity has resulted in a continuum. At one end are 'diversity-friendly' institutions that are benignly neglecting equity/diversity efforts because of state budget crises. At the other end of the spectrum are the deliberate efforts being made to systematically dismantle equity and diversity work in especially politically conservative states.". 1st ed No additional printings listed.
