Various American Cities: Wilding Picture Productions 1930. First Edition. First Edition. A volume produced by Wilding Picture Productions also known as Wilding Studios advertising their audiovisual communications services for industrial use. Contemporary ownership annotation in manuscript ink on the second leaf. <br /> <br /> Wilding was founded in Detroit in 1914 moving into the Essanay Building in Chicago in 1937. The company would become one of the largest producers of industrial films over the ensuing decades and at one point operated out of Cleveland Hollywood Chicago Detroit and New York. Wilding is today best remembered for producing many of the US Armed Services' training and educational films during World War II.<br /> <br /> Of particular note in the volume on offer are over 15 pages of copied client testimonials and four pages of photographs of Wilding Studios during the making of various commercial films.<br /> <br /> Very Good plus in string-bound embossed leatherette wrappers. Wrappers moderately yapped. Contents Very Good with dampstaining affecting the first five leaves though leaves are not stuck together light toning throughout and several photographs and testimonials laid inhaving become detached from the leaves over time. Japan. Large striking colour poster 120 x 49.6cm. This poster has been folded causing three horizontal creases and another vertical running the full length of the long sheet. Repairs to folds including some colouring along paper abrasion on folds on image itself. Still a lovely poster. This beautiful colour advertisement poster promotes the moth-proof serge kimono fabric from Budōseru Grape Brand Serge. Serge kimonos became highly fashionable in Japan around the turn of the 20th century. The merino wool was imported from Australia being regarded as the most suitable fibre for single-layer kimonos. However woollen fabrics were susceptible to insect damage. To combat this issue the Grape Brand Serge manufacturer developed a moth-proofing treatment utilising chemicals from the German company Bayer. According to the poster Bayer's compounds were used and their treated serge was marked on the selvedge as "moth-proof Budo serge". This processing took place at their factory in Aichi Prefecture. <br> <br>In the foreground a classical Japanese beauty graces a hillside elegantly attired in a purple kimono with a parasol in her hand. Her black obi bears an unusual rainbow design. The artist's signature appears in the lower left corner. . unknown

Sales/Advertising Sample for Triumphant Life Calendar
Indianapolis: Kriebel and Bates 1953. First edition. Loose_leaf. Very Good. 4 3/4 x 6 1/4 inches. Front: "Head of Christ" by iconic Protestant Painter Warner E. Sallman the original of which 1952 is in a private collection. Rear: Ordering information. Neat horizontal fold. By far the most popular of Sallmans pictures the Head of Christ has been reproduced more than 500 million times according to its publishers Kriebel & Bates. Anthony Kriebel and Fred Bates employees of the Gospel Trumpet Company of Anderson Ind. arranged to market the image late in 1940. Reproductions subsequently carried their imprimatur and the copyright date of 1941. Chicago Offset Printing Company printed the image in a six-color separation lithographic process that preserved what many admirers consider unique about the picture: its radiant incandescent glow. During the years of the Second World War one press at Chicago Offset continuously printed the Head of Christ under the operation of two shifts of laborers. In a document written in 1945 the publishers indicate that by the previous year a total of 14 million single pictures had been printed. One run of the image which required three to four weeks to complete from start to finish consisted of 5000 sheets and included a variety of sizes of the Head of Christ ranging from 20 x 16 to 3 ½ x 2 ½ inches. Several runs were already completed in 1941. By 1944 the market supported increasing the size of individual prints to 40 x 30 inches for large images to be used in public spaces such as churches and YMCAs. The image was marketed in an inexpensively framed format; as cards bearing devotional texts; and on greeting cards church bulletins clocks lamps buttons and funeral announcements to name only a few examples. Sales catalogs and promotional literature advertised Sallmans principal paintings each year. The Head of Christ became the virtual trademark of Kriebel & Bates and so quickly found public acceptance that the publishers encouraged Sallman to use the head as frequently as possible in other depictions of Christ. The artist complied by duplicating the head in other images rotating it to reveal more of the face and reversing it as in Christ Our Pilot. Kriebel and Bates unknown

'The river and harbor act of June 14 1880 appropriates $25000 for improving Stonington Harbor Connecticut.' printed by the Office of the Chief of Engineers United States Army Washington DC October 13 1880. This advertisement requests bidders by November 10 1880 for the delivery of granite for the Stonington Harbor breakwater. Stonington was originally Pequot land when a trading house was established in 1649. The town prospered in the 1790s as a sealing port and was incorporated in 1807. Printed on beige paper 8 1/2 x 14" front describes specifications of the breakwater and expectations for potential bidders verso describes 'General Information for Bidders'. Vertical and horizontal folds. Some uneven toning at vertical fold though still legible. Chipping at right edge dusty. U.S. Engineer Office unknown
