Paris: The Olympia Press 1964. Original printed wrappers. Light shelfwear. Green sticker "Olympia Press 9 Francs" pasted over original price. Very good. 159pp. No. 93 in the Traveller's Companion Series. Neither the volume number nor series name appears on the front cover. Green border on title page. One of the last original books published by the Olympia Press at Paris and one of the most curious. It comprises an account of a crime that took place in England in 1961 in which a man was shot dead and his female companion left a cripple. Arrested for the crime James Hanratty was found guilty and hanged the following year. It was later discovered that he was almost certainly innocent. Jean Justice a lawyer was one of the first to have serious doubts about Hanratty's guilt and in the course of his own investigations-the details of which are published here-was able to establish a far more plausible culprit. It may be of interest to note that since Olympia Press titles were effectively banned in the United Kingdom at this time Murder vs. Murder was distributed in England - probably by its author - through a classified advertisement in Private Eye a well-known satirical magazine. The Olympia Press unknown
