Very good. <p>The Papyrus of Ani is a papyrus manuscript with cursive hieroglyphics and color illustrations created around 1250 BC in the 19th dynasty of the New Kingdom of ancient Egypt. Egyptians compiled an individualized book for certain people upon their death called the Book of Going Forth by Day now commonly known as the Book of the Dead containing declarations and spells to help the deceased in their afterlife. This papyrus of the Theban scribe Ani was stolen from an Egyptian government storeroom in 1888 by Sir E. A. Wallis Budge for the British Museum's collection. The first pamphlet is a mechanically reproduced reprint of Leppmann's paper in German the second is an English translation of the paper. Both pamphlets have been laid by a previous owner into a handsome red cloth binding backed with red leather & titled in gilt on the spine with a gilt-lettered red leather label on the front cover. The unused space in the binding has been filled with unbound sheets of yellow & blue paper. The binding is housed in a red paper covered slipcase. Pages 219-229; & vii 17 & 2 pages. Near fine. <p>RICA Researches in Campanian Archaeology states in an introductory list of translations it has issued that these translations are of articles and documents relating to Campanian archaeology which are not generally familiar to scholars in the field. "A few of these we have distributed from the United States to a selected group of interested institutions with the traditional compliments of the University of Texas at Austin". This copy has mounted on the front pastedown the book label of The Van Der Poel Collection of Campanian Archeology. "Campanian" refers to a stage on the geologic time scale.<p>Leppman's paper which was presented at the Modern Language Association of America conference in Chicago in December 1963 was published in The German Quarterly Volume XXXVII Number 3 May 1964 a publication issued by the American Association of Teachers of German Appleton Wisconsin.<p>Leppmann writes that Goethe visited Pompeii and comments that in "Italienische Reise" "Goethe has described his impressions of Pompeii and Herculaneum so concisely that they can be reproduced here without abridgement".
