A guide to Diokaisareia in Mersin city. Uzuncaburç is an archaeological site in Mersin Province, Turkey, containing the remnants of the ancient city of Diokaisareia or Diocaesarea. During the Hellenistic period, the area of Diokaisareia was a part of the Seleucid Empire. The region around Uzuncaburç was controlled by the local kings and queens of Olba on behalf of the Seleucid Empire. Uzuncaburç was the sacred place of the Olba people, but their main settlement was in Ura,4 kilometres (2.5 mi) east of the site of Diokaisareia. However, after the area was captured by the Roman Empire, Emperor Vespasian (r. 69-79) transformed the sacred place to a city, with the right to issue its coins. During the Christian age most of the temples in Diokaisareia were converted to churches. During the Middle Ages the city faded away, During the Ottoman Empire Turkmen people established their own settlement to the east of the ancient site and named their settlement after the Hellenistic tower, Uzuncaburç which means "tall bastion" in Turkish. Now both the town and the ancient site shares the same name.

Uzun yillar Anadolu ve cevresindeki ulkelerde calismis olan meslektaslarimiz Antonio Sagona ve Paul Zimansky, ortaya cikan yeni bulgularin isinda Anadolu ve Trakya?nin tarihoncesi ve ontarih donemlerini ele alarak yeniden degerlendirmis, Anadolu?nun uygarligin gelisim sureci acisindan tasidigi onemi vurgulamislardir. Son yillarda ortaya cikan bilginin alisilagelenden farkliligi ve yogunlugu, geleneksel kaliplari oylesine zorlamaktadir ki, ortaya cikan yeni tabloyu konunun uzmanlari olarak bile algilamakta gucluk cekmekteyiz. Urfa'da bulunan su kaynaklari bereket ve kutsallik sembolu gorulmustur. Urfa'da pek cok kultur, pek cok inanc gelip gectigi halde su kaynaklarinin ve Urfa'nin sembolu olan baliklarin yeri ve nesli hic degismemistir. Bugun su kaynaklarina ve baliklara gosterilen saygi insanlik tarihinde buyuk yeri olan Urfa?nin tarihine gosterilen sayginin bir sembolu olarak kabul edilmelidir.

This is the first guide to Izmir Museum prepared by Aziz Ogan, (1888-1956). Ogan was a Turkish archaeologist and museologist. He was the one of the earliest archaeologists of the Turkish Republic. He founded Izmir Archeology Museum and was the director of Istanbul Archeology Museums. He is the father of the first Turkish female archaeologist Jale Inan.

Typescript document with autograph corrections and signature. Including request of the photographs of listed 25 Seljuk and Ottoman architectural buildings such as mosques, fountains, hans, tombs etc. Dated 12-9-1939. Addressed to Nuri [Ebussuudoglu from the member board of the Turkish Antiquities Protection Council. Letterhead 'TC Istanbul Müzeleri Genel Direktörlügü' [i.e. The General Directory of Istanbul Museums]. Ogan was a Turkish archaeologist and museologist.
