‎SIKKIM, the tiny Himalayan Kingdom came in existence in 1642 A.D. with a much larger area than it was in 1975 A.D. before it’s integration in the Kingdom was the whole of Limbuwan, now the eastern most part of Nepal, southern parts of Tibet Autonomous region of China from Nathu La and Jelep La to the Tang La beyond Phari Jong, western Bhutan up to the watershed range between the Ammo Chu Valley and Har Chu Valley, and the northern plains of West Bengal as far south as Titalaiya and Purnea of Bihar. The Kingdom disintegrated in eight phases in different period of time when it’s considerable areas were annexed by Bhutan, Nepal, China and British India of those days, and was finally integrated as one of the States of Indian Union in 1975 A.D. thereby loosing it’s identity as a Himalayan Kingdom. The book provides insight into the history of its existence as the Himalayan Kingdom and it’s disintegration in various phases, ethnicity, culture and customs of the people of Sikkim. About The Author:- Mr. Jash Subba, a post graduate in agricultural science from IARI. New Delhi, is a prolific writer and critic. Born in 1949 at Hee, one of the villages of Sikkim joined Agriculture service and has retired from Government Service in 2007 after 32 years as Principal Director Agriculture. It is the purpose of this publication to show that the establishment of ideological pragmatism, political pluralism, the initial enactment of social reforms, the introduction of self-governing institutions, and the introduction of technology are the legacies that remain an undeniable part of post-independent India. The British past, thus, has not been completely unkind to India. What the country is today, and the direction in which it is heading are the results of the legacies that the British left, the foundations of which are still visible. About The Author:- Dr. Harish Kapur is professor emeritus of the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland. Also he is the Director of the European Institute in Switzerland and India. The author has spent much of his academic career teaching international relations, and monitoring Ph.D. dissertations of students from different countries. ‎Building the Siam Burma Railway During World War-Ii [Hardcover]‎

‎No subject created so much controversy during and after the Pacific war as the Japanese treatment of the Allied Prisoners of War (P.O.W.) in flagrant violation of the Geneva Convention. Whether it was due to the racial war carried out by the Japanese or was the outcome of the mistaken value of “Bushido” the question has never been resolved. The harsh and brutal treatment of the P.O.W. was fully demonstrated, when the Japanese decided to utilize them for the construction of Siam-Burma railway. Driven like slaves and with semi-starvation diet, the Allied P.O.W. were left with no stamina to fight tropical diseases. As a result thousands of them died while working on Siam-Burma Railway, which came to be known as “Railroad of Death”. A fuctional account of the sufferings of the Allied P.O.W. was made famous by Hollywood few years back in the film The Bridge on the River Kwai. About The Author:- Mahua Sarkar, is Professor of History, Jadavpur University, Kolkata. She is currently engaged in her researches on Environmental History, funded by the Welcome Trust, U.K., and Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi. Professor Sarkar has contributed a number of articles on environmental history and has edited a book ‘The Indian Vistas of Environment’, with professor Chittabrata Palit. She has been awarded the ‘Shiksha Rattan Puraskar’, by the India International Friendship Society for the year 2007.
