Hardcover. 676; 410; 409; 373pp. Octavo 19.5 cm Black and olive green textured cloth covered boards with gilt stamped titles on the spines and embossed titles and patterns and gilt stamped animal designs on the front covers. Good. The extremities are rubbed and gently bumped. A couple of the covers have minor stains. The hinges are sporadically weak. The text block of "Through the Brazilian Wilderness" is cracked at the title page. There is a 3" closed tear in the map at the end of this volume. The front hinge of "A Book-Lover's Holidays in the Open" is broken and the text block is pulling away from the spine. This text block is also cracked at the title page and the pages at the beginning are a little loose. There is a thin light damp stain on the fore edge of one of the rear free endsheets. Browned pages.This item may require extra shipping charges due to weight. Roosevelt abandoned his political work in 1884 due to his poor health. He invested part of the fortune he had inherited from his father in a cattle ranch in the Badlands of Dakota Territory thinking that he would remain in the West for many years. He became a passionate hunter especially of big game and a strong believer in the wild outdoor life which brought him health and strength.
