1935. 1935. Very good. - sc What is offered here are 4 original pen & ink wash drawings by the caricaturist Wyncie King depicting members of FDR's administration. Each 5-3/4 inch high by 4 inch wide drawing is penned on separate 15 inch high by 10-1/4 inch wide Strathmore art board two of which bear Strathmore's blind stamp. Each drawing is signed in ink by the artist Wyncie King and additionally captioned in pencil under the image.<p>The drawings respectively depict Secretary of Labor Frances Perkins here represented as "H.R.G. Grand Duchess Fanny Perkinsova" and depicted seated with a crown perching on her hat with a pearl necklace and military medals and ribbons adorning her dress. Signed by the artist the drawing is further inscribed and signed "To Katharine Dayton with admiration and best wishes from Wyncie King". <p>Vice President John Garner here represented as "Prince Garneravitch the Heir Apparent" is depicted with bushy eyebrows. Seated on a throne while holding a gavel he is attired in Eastern European style military dress uniform with ribbons and medals.<p>Postmaster General James A. He is also attired in military dress uniform with medals and ribbons standing cap in hand with one fist resting on his hip.<p>Though there are pinholes to the edges of the art boards with staining and darkening along the edges and some wear and damage to the corners the original drawings are themselves mostly unaffected and in excellent condition.<p>Katharine Dayton has penned her name and address on the verso of each of the boards with annotations penned in ink in her hand identifying the subject of each caricature and identifying these as "illustrations for my 'Memoirs of Princess Nira' Saturday Evening Post K.D." Katharine Dayton's "Riding Backwards: The Memoirs of Princess Nira of Newdeal" were serialized in The Saturday Evening Post in 1935.<p>John Garner was President Roosevelt's Vice-President from 1933 to 1941. Frances Perkins served as FDR's Secretary of Labor from 1933-45 and James A. Farley as Postmaster General from 1933-40. Harper relates that TR will not give his permission for an unnamed project that the Patent Office says needs TR’s release. One can only speculate on what this person had dreamt up that no doubt used the former President’s name or effigy.
