Denn ich wage nicht Sie wertheste Frau Baronin gleich persönlich zu überfallen, bevor ich weiß ob mein Besuch Ihnen auch convenirt. Es wäre außerordentlich liebenswürdig, wenn Sie mir gütigst eine Zeile zukommen lassen wollten, ob Sie mir freundlichst gestatten wollen, mich Ihnen wenigstens vorzustellen […]". - Die Schülerin von Josef Lewinsky und Bernhard Baumeister debütierte 1873 in Brünn. 1878 folgte sie einer Berufung an das Wiener Burgtheater und spielte später unter Heinrich Laube am dortigen Stadttheater, 1884-88 in Hamburg, schließlich in St. Petersburg und seit 1890 am Berliner Lessing-Theater, an das sie nach einer Gastspielreise in die USA zurückkehrte. Um die Jahrhundertwende zog sie sich von der Bühne zurück und gründete eine rhetorische Schule, die nicht nur Vortragskunst und Rhetorik lehrte, sondern auch therapeutische Zwecke verfolgte.

Wien Artut Wolf 1917. . Nr 573 von 950 Exemplaren der Normalausgabe GA 1000 einer Folge von elegant-mondänen handkolorierten Aktdarstellungen. Der österreichische Grafiker und Bühnen- sowie Kostümbildner Ernst Deutsch-Dryden eigentlich Ernst Deutsch; 1887-1938 arbeitete zunächst in Wien und Berlin als Gebrauchsgrafiker wo er neben Kollegen wie Hohlwein bereits zu den bedeutendsten Vertretern seiner Zunft gehörte. Es folgten Stationen als Modedesigner für Knize und Werbegrafiker für Firmen wie Coco Chanel oder Bugatti. 1929 emigrierte er nach Amerika wo er nach dem erfolgreichen Start als Modeschöpfer schließlich Kostüme für Produktionen der großen Hollywood-Filmstudios schuf. - Trägerblätter leicht verblaßt u. teils gering knickspurig die Tafeln mit vereinzelten Stockfleckchen Wien, Artut Wolf, (1917). unknown

Es tut mir leid, dass wir nicht einig werden konnten - aber die Berichte die ich von verschiedenen Seiten erhielt, waren wirklich ganz andere, als Ihre Sekretärin mir telefonisch mitteilte. - Aber da wir ja beide noch einige Zeit zu leben gedenken, wird vielleicht bald einmal wieder Gelegenheit sein, zusammenzukommen". - Auf Briefpapier mit gedr. und gepr. Briefkopf des Hotel Imperial in Wien. Nach seinem ersten Engagement am Wiener Volkstheater (1914/15) kam Ernst Deutsch 1917 zu Max Reinhardt nach Berlin, trat am Deutschen Theater, am Staatstheater, an den Barnowsky-Bühnen, bei Meinhard, an den Bernauer-Bühnen und am Renaissance-Theater auf und spielte neben Rollen des expressionistischen Theaters auch klassische und historische Rollen. Seit seinem Filmerstling Der Golem (1920) wirkte er in zahlreichen Filmen mit, unternahm Gastspielreisen durch Europa und Amerika und war 1931/32 am Wiener Burgtheater tätig. Ernst Deutsch floh 1933 aus Deutschland, kam über Wien, Prag, Brüssel und Paris nach London und emigrierte schließlich in die USA, wo er in Hollywood Anschluß an die US-Filmszene fand.

DEVINE, Andy (1905-77)
Signature and Inscription / Unsigned Postcard Photograph
One of the most recognizable Hollywood visages and voices ever the squeaky-voiced character appeared in an astonishing 300-plus films and is perhaps best remembered as Roy Rogers' comic sidekick. "Best regards / to Donald Burnell / Andy Divine" boldly pencilled on a 3½" X 2½" slip n.p. n.y. ca. 1953. Good plus. Irregularly age toned with couple of small scotch tape stains. By way of illustration accompanied by a superb 3½" X 5½" picture postcard showing Devine and Guy Madison in buckskin outfits guns drawn in their roles as "Wild Bill Hickok and Jingles" their popular Western series from 1951-58 with facsimile signatures of each below their images. Postally cancelled in Los Angeles on 4 May 1953 and addressed to Donald Burnell recipient of the above inscription from Devine. A fun pair. unknown
