STEPHEN CHAMBERS.
Stephen Chambers. The big country and other stories.= Stephen Chambers. Büyük ülke ve diger hikâyeler. [Exhibition catalogue]. Prep. by Alanur Ataç, Begüm Akkoyunlu Ersöz, Tania Bahar.
New English Paperback. Pbo. 4to. (29 x 24 cm). In English and Turkish. 105 p. Color ills. "This exhibition, curated by Edith Devaney, Curator of Contemporary Projects at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, presents a survey of Stephen Chambers' painting and graphic works, shown alongside his vast multi-part print, The Big Country. This selection seeks to explore the origins of The Big Country (2012), demonstrating that its development is firmly rooted in the artist's past practice and deeply indebted to the European tradition of art. The sense of a story being told is a feature of many of Chambers' works, and writings are often a stimulus for this, as seen in Chambers' Flemish Proverbs series, which are also exhibited. Inspired by the landscape and scale of the American Western film The Big Country (1958), Chambers' immense work explores a myriad of fictional encounters between real and imagined historical figures. The notion of the journey and discovery of new lands has here expanded into a depiction of the five continents and the points of departure from one continent to another, raising a fascinating take on the perils and challenges of migration. Stephen Chambers is primarily a painter, however printmaking has always formed a significant part of his work. He has noted in the past that prints produced by artists whose main discipline is not printmaking, can often be the most compelling. For such artists, print-making offers another element of expression and provides an opportunity to experiment, a notion which is borne out in Chambers' finished monumental work.".

Csontvary: An extraordinary master of Hungarian.= Macar resminin siradisi bir ustasi. Prep by Tibor Mester; Begu?m Akkoyunlu; Tania Bahar; Kemal Atakay, György Darabos.
New English Paperback. 4to. (29 x 24 cm). In English and Turkish. 89 p., color ills. Csontvary: An extraordinary master of Hungarian.= Macar resminin siradisi bir ustasi. Prep by Tibor Mester; Begu?m Akkoyunlu; Tania Bahar; Kemal Atakay, György Darabos. Csontváry was an artist of the turn of the century. The richness and complexity in his works cannot be characterised based on stylistic categories. Realistic observation, emphasis on the changing light, the decorative, orgiastic use of color characteristic of Post-Impressionism, the large-scale handling of form and the strong diffraction of the colors often appear simultaneously on the same canvas. The exhibition and accompanying catalogue invite us to discover the works of this extraordinary Hungarian artist, who wrote poetry with paintings that reflect his vision beyond the currents of the period, his unique colors, his symbolic narrative, and the "divine voice" he claims to have heard. Contents: Foreword: Jósef Sárkány.; Csontváry: Lojas Németh.; The sublimity of creation in Csontváry's art: Jósef Sárkány.; Autobiography.; Catalogue.; Biography.

The Russian avant-garde dreaming the future through art and design. [Exhibition catalogue].
New English Paperback. 4to. Edition in English. 191 p., color ills. The Russian avant-garde dreaming the future through art and design. [Exhibition catalogue]. The exhibition is co-curated by Dr. Nazan Ölcer Head of Sakip sabanci Museum and Dr. Maria Tsantsanoglou, Head of the George Costakis Collection at State Museum of Contemporary Art, Thessaloniki, and besides the Costakis Collection it contains a selection of 513 works from Moscow's All-Russian Museum of Decorative Arts and Multimedia Art Museum and works from leading private collections in Europe shown together for the first time thus shedding a light upon the important place Russian Avant-Garde occupied in the history of art. The 'Dreaming the Future. Russian Avant-garde Art and Design' exhibition does not only focus on the dramatic changes and radical developments that happened during first quarter of the 20th century and prepared the groundwork for intellectual and artistic progress, not just within the Russian artistic culture, but it is designed to hod a mirror to the effect on world art. The exhibition shows the Russian avant-garde artists that in the early 1900s tried to introduce art as a lifechanging power, the ground-breaking work of the artists in this period where the reformist atmosphere had been brought about by the October Revolution in 1917, and the social design they tried to put into practice supported by the new regime and also the wide boundaries of the future they dreamed of. The exciting technological developments and industrialisation that occurred in the early 20th century turned the avant-garde artists towards science and overcoming the boundaries of the earth, dreams of space reflected the beliefs the artists had in the future and tihs is very vividly reflected in the works displayed in this exhibition.

Thresholds.= Esikler. [Exhibition catalogue]. 16 May - 29 July 2018. Translated into English by Süreyyya Evren. Curated by Mine Haydaroglu.
New English Paperback. 4to. (29 x 24 cm). In English and Turkish. 112 p., ills. Thresholds.= Esikler. [Exhibition catalogue]. 16 May - 29 July 2018. Translated into English by Süreyyya Evren. Curated by Mine Haydaroglu. Thresholds is an ongoing touring exhibition that restages the world's first major exhibition of photography. Visitors travel back in time to 1839, when British scientist William Henry Fox Talbot first presented his photographic prints to the public at King Edward's School in Birmingham. The experience is a fully immersive portal to the past; visitors can walk freely throughout a digitally reconstructed room, and are able to touch the bespoke vitrines, fixtures and mouldings; even the heat and scent of a coal fire is recreated. Infrared sensors track visitors movements, creating ghostly avatars that indicate their position and enhance the feeling of travelling through time. Collishaw has also created a soundscape to accompany the exhibition: the demonstrations of the Chartist protesters who rioted in 1839 on the streets of Birmingham, and who can be glimpsed through the digital windows.

ALI NAMIC [sic. NAMIK], (1885-1953).
[EARLY TURKISH CRITICS OF SOCIALISM] Verite, justice, bonte. [i.e. Truth, justice, goodness].
Very Good French Original wrappers. Minor wear on spine, age-toned and foxing on some pages. Overall a very good copy. Demy 8vo. (21 x 15 cm). In French. 446 p. First and only edition of this very scarce book written by the son of Ottoman sadrazam [i.e. prime minister] Küçük Said Pasha, including early critics of socialism. It is the first of the three books of this aristocratic Francophone Turkish intellectual who spent his childhood and youth among books, in his own words, "secluded among books". He wrote his all books in French language. Antoine Zellich, who came from Dalmatia as the manager of the printing house of Henri Cayol, who brought lithography to Istanbul, continued to operate the Cayol Printing House for a while after the death of his master in 1865 due to the cholera epidemic. Zellich, who was honored with the title of "printer of the Vatican" by Pope Leon XIII in 1888, died in Istanbul in 1890. The printing press is inherited by his eldest son, gregoire Zellich, and his brothers. This printing house continued its activities by growing and developing in Istanbul, printed a wide variety of products from books to magazines, calendars to stationery, school books to maps and commercial notebooks, and he sold them in its shops in Pera, Beyoglu. The company "Zeliç Brothers" continued its commercial activities in the republican period until it was closed in the 1960s.

METIN ELOGLU, (1927-1985).
[ORIGINAL ARTWORK OF TURKISH LUMPENPROLETARIAT] In the forest of abstract stains.
Fine Turkish Original artwork in oil painting on thick paper. Varnished on painting. 14x14 cm. Signed on the lower right. No date. Metin Eloglu was a mediator poet-painter between two major literary movements known as Garip and Ikinci Yeni in Turkish literature, with his poetry featuring both realistic and imagistic elements. Eloglu published his first piece, which was a short story, in 1942, while his initial poems came out in the following years. As a painter, he liked to work on urban compositions. Some of his paintings had titles like "Çikmaz Sokak" [i.e. The Dead End] and "Gecekondu Sofrasi" [i.e. The Slum Dinner]. He won some moderate prizes for his paintings; however, especially after becoming a famous poet of the modernist era, he would always be remembered as a poet rather than a painter.

ÖZDEMIR ALTAN, (1931-).
Original print (Ed. 51/100).
Fine Turkish Edition of 51/100. Original print. 50x70 cm. Signed and dated on the lower right, edition number is on the lower left. Born in 1931, lives in Istanbul. In 1956 he graduates from Zeki Faik Izer's atelier in IDGSA Painting Department. Besides the Paris biennials in 1963-1965, he participated in numerous international and national art activities, he opened so many solo exhibitions. His name became famous as a writer and lecturer. He was the first artist who improved and represented some western ideas such as the modernist, avant-garde approach to pop art and especially postmodernism in Turkey. He was also the first curator who attempt to organize an exhibition in Turkey; Avni Lifij's exhibition in 1968 was the first example. As having his own fiction world the artist not only assists Contemporary Turkish Art but also gives shape to its fate and it is seen that he is the one that impresses almost all artists of his generation and the next generation about today's Turkish Art. About this subject he expresses; "An artist gives references, the effect is inevitable, not the method but the result is important." With his productive natural talent, Altan proves that he has an endless, dynamic, energetic personality. In his creations, he appropriates an art understanding that coincidentally mixed incongruous elements such as; different textures, structure elements, materials, art view, light, etc. With clearer thoughts and ways from 1988, he developed the coincidental mixing method to prove artistic space is made up of different concepts, backgrounds, edifices, and logic that meet at extreme points. He examined spas and has taken them as the main course in his lectures. As a result of his research on spas, rather than the historic way he clearly declared that; "art meets from different ideas, logic, sources, structure and concepts". After this conclusion, he declared his ideas (with the title of space in art) first time, in front of academicians, at an associated professorship lecture in 1970. After that declaration, Altan has improved a new international art feature on that allegation. He coincidently made a unity from the different participants' works such as landscapes, plans, maps, and the district sketches, and at the end, participants applied the design with the alien materials. This method has been performed by totally different participants and it was the first of all in the art history of spas commentary.
