It was constructed under King Edward the Elder in AD 920 in order to secure the cooperation of the Vikings in a united England. Extremely scarce.

Das Werk des bayrischen Kulturhistorikers und Schriftstellers St. (1812-1888), wollte "weder mit Bädeker noch mit seinen Nachfolgern concurriren" und war als Reiseliteratur konzipiert. Steub schilderte jedoch neben dem Land auch die Sitten und Gebräuche seiner Einwohner: "...ein in seiner Art unübertroffenes Werk, reich an Witz und Humor, voll Farbenpracht und Waldesduft. Mit historischen Erinnerungen, die sich auf gewissenhafteste Forschung stützen, wechseln Erörterungen sprachlicher Natur, farbige Landschaftsbilder, naturwahre Beiträge zur Kenntniß des Lebens und Charakters der Bauernschaft.
