"In the nineteenth century, Eghia (Yeghia) Tntesian (1834-1881) carried out extensive studies of Armenian khaz(es), comparing various oral musical traditions in different regions and deciphering text from various libraries throughout Armenia (Tntesian 1864, 1867, and 1874). His studies focused almost exclusively on the Armenian khaz system, questioning its origin and theoretical principles, meanings in terms of duration and intonation, sequences, and its relationship with the various genres of Armenian folk music in general. In summary, Tntesian argued that the prominent method by which these chants were passed was through the oral tradition. Additionally, he theorized that although the khaz(es) did not indicate steps of a scale, they created places for accentuation-the notation was only an aid to the oral tradition. Tntesian's comparative analysis on the origins of the khaz is illuminating, although there remains the critical question as to what extent the khaz(es) functioned musically. He theorizes that each sign denoted a specific duration, accentuation, and intonation. Links between the meter and text (khaz and prose) reveal themselves in his thorough discussion of musical phrases, Armenian grammars, and cadential motifs." Physik.""In his groundbreaking work on microscopical structure of the brain and nerves published in 1833 the paper offered the Berlin anatomist Christian Ehrenberg stated that according to his observations the nerves consisted of tubes most of these cylindrical some of them - the optical and auditory nerve and the nerves in the organ of smell - varicose. According to Ehrenberg the cylindrical nerves contained 'substance that consisted of "small plump but not very regular particles" the nerve marrow. Ehrenberg also described smaller and bigger granulas in the substance of the brain but as the dominant element of the brain he identified fibers. Sprawling novel following "the varied fortunes of a gallery of men and women who form a cross-section of Parisian life" during the years from 1935 through the fall of Paris to the invading German army in May 1940. "The story ends with the debacle -- the collapse of the French army under the blows of the Wehrmacht the flight of the Government from Paris to Bordeaux and finally the formation of a new pro-fascist Government at Vichy." The Russian-born author a journalist since World War I had participated in the Bolshevik Revolution; he moved to France as a Soviet correspondence in 1921 and remained there until after it fell to the Germans. Originally published in Moscow in 1942 where it won the "Stalin Prize" for fiction; the American edition with a beautiful dust jacket designed by George Salter is surprisingly uncommon. . Alfred A. "Ehrenfest was one of the first to try to understand the significance of the strange new concept of energy quanta that Max Planck had introduced into physics in 1900 in his theory of blackbody radiation. In a series of papers culminating in his major study of 1911 the paper offered "Which Features of the Quantum Hypothesis Play an Essential Role in the Theory of Heat Radiation" Ehrenfest picked out the essentials of the early quantum theory and showed how they fit together. He proved rigorously that the energy of electromagnetic vibrations cannot take on all values - cannot vary continuously - if the total energy of the blackbody radiation in an enclosure is to be finite: Planck’s assumption that energy is a discrete variable was therefore logically necessary and not just sufficient. Futurist fantasy in which a young Greek war refugee introduced to the wonders of modern machinery works his way up from garage mechanic to member of an airline crew. This gets him mixed up with a mysterious American arms merchant and he eventually finds himself a stowaway on a gigantic Russian airship the "Zodiak" operated by the Militant Anti-God League which of course! takes its marching er flying orders straight from Moscow and whose mission he discovers is to blanket the world with Communist propaganda leaflets and thereby lay the groundwork for a World Revolution. The book appears to be chock-full of mystical symbolism and stuff check the signs of the Zodiac on the jacket spine and in its closing pages the author quotes that well-known mystic Henry Ford: "Shall we not some day reach a point where the machine is becomes all powerful and the man of no consequence" Shall we not indeed .
