A study on a chronicle of final phase of the Cretan War (War of Candia), 1666-1669 is the name given to the Fifth Ottoman-Venetian War. Grand Vizier Köprülü Fazil Ahmed initiated large preparations in the winter of 1665 / 66, and dispatched 9,000 men to bolster the Ottoman forces in Crete. An Ottoman peace proposal, which would have allowed Venice to keep Candia against an annual payment of tribute was rejected, and in May 1666, the Ottoman army, under the personal leadership of the Grand Vizier, departed from Thrace for southern Greece, whence it would embark for Crete during the winter. In February 1667, the Venetians received significant reinforcements from France and Savoy, totaling 21 warships and some 6,000 men, but, as in past years, disagreements among the leaders of the various contingents over precedence (France, the Papal States, Malta, Naples, Sicily contributed ships and men) hampered operations. Francesco Morosini, now again Captain General, sought to engage the Ottomans, but they avoided battle, and using their superior resources and bases, they steadily kept their forces on Crete supplied. The only allied success in 1667 was the repulsion of an Ottoman raid on Cerigo (Kythera). Il volume, che sintetizza anche i dati acquisiti durante i più recenti scavi archeologici condotti dalle varie équipes impegnate nell'ambito della Missione, mantiene lo schema della prima versione dell'Atlante, illustrando i risultati delle ricerche in una cartografia numerica in scala 1:10 suddivisa in 53 fogli completamente rinnovati nella veste grafica, e, come il precedente, rappresenta uno strumento fondamentale sia per la ricostruzione storica e la programmazione delle ricerche sia per la gestione e la tutela di tutta l'area archeologica di Hierapolis. Su una base cartografica numerica a grande scala, opportunamente aggiornata, sono documentate tutte le evidenze antiche presenti nell'area urbana e nelle necropoli che la circondano, oggetto di nuove campagne di rilievo archeologico; questi dati sono integrati con quelli provenienti dall'interpretazione di immagini satellitari ad alta risoluzione e di numerose riprese aeree effettuate con palloni aerostatici e droni, oltre che con quelli ricavati da estese campagne di prospezione geofisica. Rispetto alla precedente versione, il Nuovo Atlante di Hierapolis di Frigia si arricchisce inoltre di ulteriori contenuti che interessano specifiche evidenze del contesto ierapolitano, come la caratteristica rete di canali di travertino, o che sono legati al peculiare contesto ambientale, in particolare alla faglia sismica che attraversa la città, oggetto di specifiche ricerche geo-archeologiche.

'Suli' family (A family in Turkish / Turkic origin) in Abbasid literature and Abu Bakr as-Suli. Abu Bakr Muhammad bin Yahya al-Suli, (266-267 Hegira / 880 Gregorian; 334-335 Hegira / 946 Gregorian) (aged 6869. lunar calendar) was a nadim (boon companion) of successive Abbasid caliphs. He was noted for his poetry and scholarship and wrote a chronicle called Akhbar al-Radi wa'l-Muttaqi, detailing the reigns of the caliphs al-Radi and al-Muttaqi. He was a legendary shatranj (an ancestor of chess) player, still remembered to this day. Upon the death of al-Radi in 940, al-Suli fell into disfavour with the new ruler due to his sympathies towards Shi'a Islam and as a result had to go into exile at Basra, where he spent the rest of his life in poverty. Born into an illustrious family of Turkish origin, Al-Suli's great-grandfather was the Turkish prince Sul-takin and his uncle was the poet Ibrahim ibn al-'Abbas as-Suli.
